Haven't been at this bar in over a year and it was shitty last time because a young bouncer accused of us using the restroom outside in the back (check your fucking cameras). Decided to stop by again and should have known it was a bad idea. The bouncers here are some of most insecure pieces of inbred shit. Bullshit rules are enforced. You can be denied entry or kicked out for not giving your motorcycle helmets to them to hold. Bouncer couldn't express if liability and accountability is included if he held the helmet. Manager couldn't come out (there wasn't one anyways). Don't come here spending your hard earned money on drinks since the bouncers are inbred. The bartender was also getting involved for unknown reasons (good thing you intelligently stood back). The ambiance of this place was nice, it was dim with nice decor. Given the volume of people at the bar, i think the bartenders were still attentive. The caveat is that there is no beer on draft. Also, I was surprised when I ordered a Long Island that the bartender used a dispenser where the alcohol and sweet and sour came out and was just topped with coke. I thought that was lame, tasted nothing like the drink supposed to and instantly gave me heart burn. The complexity of this drink isn't such that the most basic of bartenders can't create. Great bar. The bartender jenae was literally the best. So kind and we loved her vibe. The problem was it was 90 degrees out and the bar wouldn't let half our friend group in because of dress code (they were wearing flip flops or shorts) and so we had to take our group of 20 people elsewhere. This karaoke bar is a gem in San Jose. The venue size, bar theme, and overall atmosphere make this one of my favorite places. There's no food, but you can easily go to the sister bars and order from there: Jack's and Jtown pizza. The service here is great. I've had no issues with any bartender and the KJs are awesome. My biggest complaint that has affected my experience is how loud the music is played. I'd get notifications from my smartwatch saying the volume can cause hearing damage. I came here for a work event last night and had the BEST time. It's such a great vibe- excellent bar, ambiance, and service. Our group had so much fun both during our private event and also when the bar opened later for the public. They have basically every song you could possibly ask for and the MC does an excellent job facilitating the performance. It's very welcoming and comfortable. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in hosting a private event or a fun night out on the town. They do have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free pizza options. read more

I have a lot of good memories here from the 2010s, but the quality of their KJs seems to have declined post-pandemic. In recent weeks I witnessed two different KJs letting singers cut the line by signing up under two different names, resulting in them singing twice within 20 minutes while everyone else in the room was patiently waiting 90. One of these KJs (a short, slacker-looking kid wearing a cap) also played favorites with his friends and seemed to have no clue how to set the microphones to an appropriate volume. Considering karaoke is 7 Bamboo's main attraction, the management might want to keep a closer watch on the character of people they employ. read more

I believe his name is Brian--a tall, handsome lad of middle years and artisan craftsmanship in the realm of tasty beverages. I wasn't keen on singing myself, so the complaints of other reviewers about the DJ don't resonant here. After all, DJs are just failed musicians who--in despair--exert every ounce of power over others that they possibly can, before they die alone in a studio apartment, up to their ears in empty bottles of cheap of liquor and discount Red Bull. We should pity them, not be angry at how terrible they are. Back to the drinks: tasty, strong, and fairly priced. I don't know what the heck the "ram job" guy was talking about, but having stumbled through San Jose for a decade, the prices at 7 Bamboo are not inflated. Used to be a go-to spot for me and my friends, always saw a lot of the usual suspects/familiar faces and always felt at home. Now that there is a dress code, not so much. Especially when it is enforced with SOME but not ALL. This is my favorite karaoke bar in San Jose by far. The bar has karaoke starting every night at 7pm and it can take a little while to fill up so I would recommend going around 8:30/9. The space is relatively small and there aren't many tables but once the karaoke gets going everyone is singing along and having a great time together! its good because even when you're at the back tables you can still see the stage very well. You don't need to be a professional singer the atmosphere is very communal and very fun! Great place for birthdays! Located in Japantown, 7 Bamboo Lounge is a laid back karaoke bar where you can have some drinks w/ your buddies and sing some songs in front of everyone. There is a little bar with a TV right when you come in. Lots of cool lighting, some tables, and a stage where you can sing your heart out. Unfortunately, I was a bit under the weather so I couldn't have any drinks, but I guess it was a good thing, because I was able to see everything with a clear mind. The people who were in attendance varied from college kids to older working adults. That just shows how this place appeals to a large mix of people. My friends sang a few songs, but it did take a while until their name got called. I was surprised by the sheer amount of people wanting to sing. There were def a handful who seemed as if they sang professionally and of course the casual karaoke singers as well. No one seemed to judge! Back in the day (pre-kids) I used to love this place. Unfortunately, my founds memories of it were destroyed last night. I was part of a large group celebrating a 40th birthday party. (Yup. My posse is getting old). Our group arrived at 6:30pm to watch the same selection of people sing repeatedly for over 1 hour. I walked over to the DJ gave him $40 and requested that he get some new singers on stage. He responded with "Sorry, these are employees. They came here on their night off" and then attempted to return the tip. I asked him again to just get some other people a chance to sing and walked away. The repeat singer finished and then the DJ had the audacity to get up on stage and sing a song. Drinks are strong. Bar service is decent. Song selection is good. DJ was a punk. I love 7 bamboo so much been going here for years. Yesterday I experienced the worst security guards that have been mentioned in other reviews. I was banned for the night and called names by security they continued to call me a weirdo, called me a stupid female and laughed at me after banning me for the night. I have never been treated this way and all of this was due to me having a frozen water bottle cause I had it they banned me on the spot. I asked for there names one security guard gave me his name noel after asking the security guard he then comes after me saying whats your fucking name then takes out his camera to record me these guys were hostile, rude, and made me feel the opposite of safe. I came from Tracy to come and enjoy my favorite spot and they ruined it. After leaving I went elsewhere the place I was at I ran into 5 other people that they kicked out same night for stupid reasoning once I new they were targeting people I had to write a review I hope the owners put a stop to there hostile encounters they are making this place look bad cause they don't know how to treat people. All the times I've come here I've never been treated so badly they had me in tears 2 grown men calling me a weirdo yelling at me following me with a camera asking my name. As people were coming in and out they were talking about me laughing about banning me it was aweful. Better then expected dive bar that makes a small specialty of karaoke. Parking is for the most part street only, although there is a small lot in back. For the most part parking in Japan Town isn't that big a deal. That means you may have to get a spot around the corner a block away. The inside is decorated in what I'd call late dive bar, but slightly better. They have made good use of christmas lights both for light and ambiance. They are the usual run down sticky table and chair combos, a few super awesome booths, and a small counter space at the small bar. the bar counter will seat perhaps ten friendly people more or less shoulder to shoulder or a about six manspreading types. When this place gets busy-and it will as this is a fairly popular spot-it'll be should to shoulder throughout. While dancing is possible, you will get jostled. The bar is standard in both service and selection with a slight nod to Japan Town. Three or four taps-including Japanese beer brands (Asashi) and a slighter better then usual sake selection. Otherwise it's your basic shots,beer, and basic cocktail lounge. The Karaoke stage is the focal point here and considering it's such a small divey place a considerable amount of effort has been put in to make it good. I walked in here last night after coming from Pearl in in downtown SJ. I had just taken a shot of liquid cocaine before leaving the club and I was definitely feeling a cool buzz when we got there. It was a good thing that the alcohol had taken effect because I probably wouldn't have said "yes" to the random Jay Leno lookin' dude that tapped my shoulders asking me and my girlfriend to go up on stage and sing "Love Shack" with him. I guess he must have spotted us right when we walked in the doors because a minute after we agreed, he was pulling us up on stage where I barely had enough time to register what was going on. The song was already starting and after shoving the mic in our hands, I heard myself start to sing. How the heck did that happen? That means that you have a larger amount of songs available. The downside is you don't know when your turn is, so you could be waiting for hours.
