I think the space would be so much more enjoyable if it were paved or had grass or artificial turf instead. It would make a huge difference not only for children, but also for dogs. We bring ours along often, and the gravel is uncomfortable for their paws and for laying down, so they usually try to squeeze onto our laps instead. We come here often, usually ordering at least two drinks plus food, and after many, many visits we still aren't even close to the 100 points needed for just $5 off.
