For those of you who are unfamiliar with a chopped cheese sandwich, let me break it down for you. A chopped cheese sandwich is when a burger is cooked steak and cheese style and put on a hoagie roll. This sounds like it should be a simple concept but so many sandwiches fall short of hitting the mark. THIS ONE DOES NOT! The meat on this sandwich is cooked wonderfully. The seasoning is perfect. The temperature is excellent. It's juicy and not any way overcooked. It smells amazing as soon as you open the bag. The fries are also a sticking point for me. They are golden brown and have just the right amount of salt and crunch to them without being dried out. My lunch is always really in minutes and I enjoy talking to the owner while I wait. He always greets me with a smile and makes my business feel appreciated. There are several other menu options but I am so smitten with this one that I have not ventured to try anything else.

The owner was so pleasant and kind, and allowed me to make modifications to the sandwiches. It took about 10 minutes for them to be prepared fresh, and in that time, so many other folks flooded into the store to order too! It was great to see how popular they were, given that the sandwiches were excellent. It's close by, so I plan to return soon.

I normally love coming here, which is exactly why I am so angry and disappointed writing this…read morereview. I had been telling my Dad for a while about how fun this place is, how nice everyone usually is, and how much I thought he would enjoy it. We were finally able to come together today, and he was genuinely excited to see the inside and have breakfast here for the first time. As expected, we were told the wait would be about 45-50 minutes. Fine. The place was busy, as it usually is, and we had absolutely no problem waiting. I spent years working as a server and hostess. I understand busy restaurants, long waits, and tables that don't turn as quickly as expected. After waiting about 40 minutes, I went to the host stand to simply ask for an update. We had watched people leave and groups continue to be seated during our wait, so I wanted to see where we stood. The young man at the host stand told me it would be ANOTHER 40-50 minutes. I genuinely thought he had confused our name with someone else's, so I explained that we had already been waiting for 40 minutes. He told me our names were "at the bottom of the list" and that people inside were moving very slowly. No apology. No double-checking the list. No attempt to figure out how a quoted 45-50 minute wait had suddenly turned into an hour and a half. He didn't ask if we were willing to sit inside, offer another seating option, or even suggest placing a to-go order. Nothing. He was completely dismissive. So I handed him the menu and my Dad and I left. Then, just 20 MINUTES later--not the additional 40-50 minutes we had literally just been told--I received a call saying our table was ready. I tried to explain that we were no longer there and WHY we had left. The second I said we had "left," I was HUNG UP ON. Honestly, that was it for me. Before that phone call, I was actually sitting in the car telling my Dad that maybe we could try again another day. Despite being embarrassed and disappointed after talking this place up to him so much, I was still willing to chalk it up to a bad interaction with one host. Getting hung up on completely sealed the deal. I'm not angry because the restaurant was busy. I'm angry because we were treated like we didn't matter. I'm angry because we waited patiently for 40 minutes, politely asked one question, and were dismissed with inaccurate information instead of someone taking 30 seconds to double-check. I'm angry because when I tried to explain what had happened, I wasn't even given the basic courtesy of finishing a sentence before someone hung up on me. My Dad and I have lived in Lakeside for over 30 years. We weren't asking to skip the line. We weren't demanding a table. We weren't rude to anyone. We were two local customers who were excited to have breakfast together at a place I had genuinely loved and recommended to other people. We will NEVER be back. And yes, we will absolutely be telling our friends, family, and neighbors about how we were treated and recommending that they go somewhere else unless they want to risk being dismissed, given completely inaccurate wait information, and hung up on when they try to explain why they left. Apparently this place is busy enough that treating people with basic courtesy no longer matters. That's fine. There are plenty of other restaurants that will happily take our money and, at the very least, treat my Dad and me like human beings. What was supposed to be a fun breakfast with my Dad turned into one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a long time. I went from genuinely loving and recommending this place to never wanting to step foot inside again. Congratulations. You lost two longtime local customers in less than an hour.

We split one sandwich because with the added tempeh it ended up being $15 without add ons and we still had to modify to make it vegan. The food is advertised as being vegan optional and not worth it. The portion is not worth the price. We wanted to support this establishment in person since we wanted to make sure we were not paying for delivery and were already across the street. However, in the advertisement I saw online, they said to visit in person and that was not the case at all. If I was in the area and willing to pay DC prices for a sandwich, I would come back, but not seek it out in RVA.

We ordered several different items and they were all superb. The Bon Air sandwich with scallion pancake was incredibly delicious and tasty. My only wish was that I ordered 2. The mild tingling sensation in my tongue from the szechuan peppercorn was a great balance with the avocados in the sandwich. It was essentially a scallion pancake taco which I happily ate up. The tea eggs were beautifully done and my brain immediately wanted congee with them because they were that delicious. The Quirky Theia was rich with the beef shank and also a bit spicy from the mala paste. It balanced well with the scallion pancake we chose to wrap it in. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and hope to try out some of the other options next time!

I noticed so many changes, from my skin tone to decreased wrinkles (even the deeper ones) I now have a subtle glow to my skin as well. In addition, if I went in with a headache, I came out without one! Remee always asked if anything was bothering me and with her needle placement, I always came out feeling better! The needles are painless to slightly uncomfortable for just a few seconds. Going into her office is an awesome experience in itself. She has a vast selection of beautiful crystals, personally handcrafted teas, and Chinese herbs for sale. The atmosphere itself is inviting and warm. I honestly could just go and sit in the office and it would be therapeutic! Words just can't quite capture it. Along the course of my treatments, I became increasingly interested in some of the other services that she offers. I had an energy session, which included Reiki and crystals to name two. I loved the feeling that it gave me, one of peace, comfort and just a general good feeling. Remee is a Master Teacher Reiki practitioner and does a wonderful job. She offers Reiki and other classes and I am now at the Reiki 2 level, with the intent to going on to the Master level. I have come to love and trust Remee so much that I wouldn't go anywhere else for anything that she offers. Remee is a Master in the art of Chinese Face reading. My daughter and I had a 2 hr session with her that gave us both a better understanding of one another, along with some of the other people in our lives. It's amazing what she can tell from one's face. She can give insight on others with a good picture. She was spot on with her analysis of several photos that we provided. This too was an incredible experience. I highly recommend Energy Medicine Center to anyone who is seeking an acupuncturist, reiki therapist, help with chronic pain or even if you just feel lost, Remee can help.
