H-E-B is more mid-market, Joe V's is the bargain end, and Central Market is the crown jewel. And honestly, shopping here is an experience. Much like IKEA, the store is designed to lead you through the entire place, so you're constantly seeing something else that makes you think, "Oh, I need that." They carry tons of regional specialties, including plenty that aren't even from Texas, plus an impressive selection of prepared foods. The bakery is lovely, and the meat section is downright glorious. We happened to be here at the tail end of Hatch chile season, which is apparently a VERY real thing. Every August, Central Market celebrates with about two weeks of Hatch chile everything. We're talking marinated meats, salsas, chips, cheeses, dips, even cookies. Basically, if they can put a Hatch chile in it, they will. We bought a few things to take home and try later, but we also grabbed an Asian chicken wrap with sweet potato fries from the cafe. Delicious, and easily enough for two people to split. Come hungry, come curious, and give yourself plenty of time. This is not a "run in for milk" kind of grocery store.

They have a McDonalds attached so you can literally eat and get gas. Because the Texas Powerball is at an astronomical $1.2B, I had to go inside. Super clean inside, too. That's when I met manager John, who is extremely knowledgeable with almost all things gas and lottery-related...plus he's a friendly cool guy. So I bought my tickets and made it to work on-time. Then I saw the sign on the side of this mini mart saying "daiquiris". I'm glad I decided to give it a try! Not only the daiquiris were good but the chicken tenders and spring rolls were the best I had(chickens were so tender and flavorful and I've never seen so much meat in spring rolls!!!) When I walked in I was greeted by the owner. It's a small convenience store that sells the usual but he also carries a variety of beer and wine. I have never seen a convenient store carry this much wine and beer. The whole back wall is filled with a variety of wine. I grabbed a few four packs of Seagram's and Jack Daniel's wine cooler. I asked the owner if he could order my favorite wine and my husband's favorite beer and he said Yes. I'm not a big soda drinker but I noticed that he sells Peach Nehi and Tahitian fruit punch. I grabbed a two liter of both. Prices are very reasonable too. I grabbed a small box of lemon heads and apple head candy for 25 cents. I don't like dealing with crowds especially when I can walk in and out in five minutes. I will be a regular customer. If you are in the area, stop by.
