Sort of a back alley brewpub, as it look like it's out back. Warehouse decor, a small brewery with bar and tables to one side. Very communal and gets mighty busy weekend evenings when there's often a band. The changing beer is to please most palates including lager, reds, black stuff and some fine IPAs, right up there on the chalkboard. Kid-friendly pub, there is a sort of playroom just inside the door and tots wander among the tables. Patrons don't seem to mind, it's all good. A food wagon parks up against the building, food is good and they will bring it to you if they can find you. Parking is tight but evenings the industrial park nearby closes and we can just park over there...? read more

Really enjoyed the English Bitter on Nitro... The only way it could have been better is on a hand pump. The IPA was crisp with a nice finish, the Oatmeal Stout is was a good a Oatmeal should be, chewy with backbone. I will return for the Bitter though as it's much cheaper than flying to Yorkshire weekly for my fix! Tasty! read more

I've visited this place a couple of times. The atmosphere is up to par with Home Depot and Costco, but Costco is probably cleaner. It's a fairly large space, with a typical warehouse roof and cinderblock walls. The staff I've seen consists of 2-3 people. The bar staff are young guys without much personality. Despite the fact that the serving area appears to be on the order of 1000-2000 square feet, it gets pretty loud in there if there are 10 people or more talking, especially if several of them have had a few. On one occasion, it smelled like one of the staff was probably in the back smoking a cigarette, which is illegal in Montgomery County. The first time I visited, I tried a flight of beers. Their website is not up to date on what's on tap. They didn't have the Snakeden Saison, which others have praised, although their web page says it's currently on tap. I took some notes on my selection sheet. Here were my first impressions: Heads & Hearts Syrah Saison--light and fruity, maybe a good summer brew. Nut Brown Ale--smooth, toasty flavor, not unpleasant. Surrender Dorothy RyePA--hoppy and spicy, good balance of hops and malt, my favorite so far. This is the only one of the five I tried that I'd probably ask for again in a pint or growler. Farmhouse Strong Ale--stronger flavor, also good hops/malt balance, but didn't appeal to me. Blockhouse Point Stout--thin for a stout, had an aftertaste I didn't like. All in all, the beers I've tried so far don't compare in quality to Flying Dog, Dogfish Head, or Gordon Biersch. Since they don't serve food, except for the Friday food truck, there's not much reason for me to go back except for the fact that they're less than 20 minutes drive from my house. There's a 50-cent surcharge on credit card payments under $10. If you want to run a tab, they collect your credit card and keep it until you settle up. A flight is $8. Pints are $6 regular price. Growler refills are $9/32 oz or $14/64 oz, I think. There are a couple of special strong brews which are served in goblets and are probably $2 more. read more

Such a laid back and relaxing atmosphere and the beer is top notch! They rotate their selection frequently and do lots of in house canning, which I appreciate. I love that they bring in food trucks as well, offering a new selection almost every visit. The servers and bartenders are incredibly nice and are willing to give tastings if you're unsure of a beer. As mentioned, it is very laid back - go up to the bar and order the beer yourself kind of place - no frills. Love it. Will keep coming back! read more

Wow... pretty awesome that a place like this is in Rockville. So much potential. Mediocre beer at best, but a deduction of two stars for the two people pulling tap handles to put beer into glasses. Unfriendly, inattentive, zero personality, awful. Visited breweries all over the states; trying to grow a small business is highly dependent on the product/service, but really takes off with customer service. Recommendation is to embrace hospitality and encourage word-of-mouth to get people to visit and have them start talking to restaurants about tapping their kegs. 7 locks has become a favorite local hangout after work. The staff is very friendly and the beer is good and affordable. You can bring your own food or order food in. It is extremely casual and laid back. Very large space with Cornhole, Giant Jenga and other board games available to play. read more

Nice atmosphere, plenty of seating, and a friendly crew are certainly strong points for this joint. However, the beer was a bit disappointing. I tried a (very reasonably priced) flight of five beers and found all five (mix of styles) to all be fairly bland. Loved my visit to 7 Locks. The atmosphere was great, beer was fantastic, and the crowd was really laid-back. The owners even took the time to speak with us and talk about their philosophy and origin of the brewery. It was a great experience. Great local beer. It's basically a warehouse with a bar in it, which is pretty great. They're constantly rotating what's on tap. I've been there 4 times and each time they have 2 or 3 new beers. Haven't had a bad beer yet either. Bring your own food, play some board games or cornhole, and have a good time. read more

My score is related to a few variables to include: Location, Parking, Beer, & Customer Service. Location: 7 Locks Brewing is almost hidden in a huge corporate park with only a few signs here and there to direct you. Parking: Their parking lot is relatively limited with free space, but there is plenty of surrounding street parking. Beer: The stouts are definitely the highlight for me, but I also enjoyed the pale ale. I wasn't a huge fan of the red rye, but I could see that others preferred it. Also, the prices were reasonable at $6/beer and $14/fill a growler. Customer Service: Every person I've met that works at this place has been extremely friendly. read more

I don't know of any other place like this. I can literally roll up in sweatpants with my wife and kids, diaper bag with baby food and a pizza...let the kids run around, drink awesome beer, and watch sports with a bunch of friends. I love this place. It's the easiest place outside our own home to meet up with friends and have an "adult" good time while the kids can run around and do whatever. read more

First things first, I want to clarify we are a VEGAN family and tend to seek out vegan establishments. At first run, there was no real listing online for what may or may not be vegan. Upon arrival I asked and the staff went above and beyond to identify what was as well as potentially what wasn't, or into the future what might not be. The bottom line is a vast majority are, the clear communication and willingness to help and go the distance to reach out to Barnivore to provide clarity to the masses. I gave 4 stars overall for a combination of the beer, the staff, and the overall vibe. The staff Is very friendly and helpful. They offered samples of all of their beers, as well as advice when asked. The brewery is a comfortable place to hang out and relax, whether after work or on the weekend, with tvs and games. The beers are made well, but on the lighter side of the flavor spectrum. There were 11 beers on tap when I visited, so plenty to choose from. read more

Came here on a Friday night with hubby and baby in tow- I felt it was a little loud for baby but he managed to sleep through it. The crowd was definitely a young happy hour crowd. I was immediately struck by the frat house smell which hubby assured me was just because it was a brewery- I haven't been to many nice breweries with that stench though... We got a flight of beers to taste and see what we might want, Unfortunately we were underwhelmed with all of the beers and decided to get nothing more. They all tasted very plain and I even remember commenting that one was similar to Bud Light- not what you want to be thinking at a brewery. The best beer we had was the oatmeal stout, but even that left a lot to be desired. The food truck option that was there when we went was also pretty sub-par although that did not weigh into my 2-star rating. We really wanted to love this local spot but probably wouldn't return unless we heard there had been some major improvements. read more

7 Locks is fantastic -- I had tasted a couple of their brews before actually visiting the brewery, so I knew to expect great beer, but the pleasant setting (spacious, clean and welcoming), friendly and knowledgeable staff, affordable prices, fun crowd and great atmosphere definitely made it worth the trip. Plus they offer flights, which is great for tasting a variety of beers including seasonals and new releases. With more and more breweries popping up in the DC area, it seems that it's increasingly difficult for each one to find a niche, but 7 Locks has very successfully done just that. As a bonus, there are games to play AND you can watch NCAA and pro sports there! read more

This place is awesome! I used to live in Rockville and discovered it by more or less stumbling onto it. Halfway into a Snakeden Saison (I didn't think I liked saisons, but apparently I was very wrong) I was sold. Beer was delicious, our bartender was not only friendly but incredibly knowledgeable (apparently he also does brewing), and the BYO food/ plenty of seating/ corn hole boards environment makes it feel casual, and made us feel right at home. Since moving to Kensington, it's still our go-to spot for a pint (or two...or maybe three...) or growler fill. It's hard to beat the beer itself, and when the people behind the counter are largely brewers/owners you know you're in good hands. Additional perks include killer food trucks on the weekends, and the occasional event like live music or fundraisers--has always been a blast so far. Can't speak highly enough of this place, their product, and the people who run/staff it! read more

OK beers and the ordering is a bit hectic. Seating area is bad and in our 2nd visit, it's not improved. They could use large picnic style with benches and seat way more people. My sister-in-law discovered this place from a radio ad on DC 101.1 one night while we were out, and as avid beer enthusiasts, we decided to try it out. First of all I have to say I am loving all of these small craft breweries opening up in Montgomery County! This place does not disappoint. The brewery itself on the outside is a little hard to find, not many signs out there, but once we walked in we were pleasantly surprised. It actually seems like a very family-friendly spot which was unexpected! There are a ton of tables to sit anywhere you like. You can bring your own food as well. They have plenty of adult and kids games, from cornhole to jumbo Jenga to Yahtzee and monopoly. As for the beer, you can try a flight of 5 or 1 at a time. I tried out the honey ale and oatmeal stout, both to my liking! The only weird thing is you can only place your order at one end of the bar, like an "order here" sort of thing, so people are waiting in line to order their drinks. I think things might move a lot faster if they functioned like a regular bar, taking orders back and forth across the bar. Just a thought! But I am definitely looking forward to watching this place grow and continue to make great beer. Keep it up guys! read more
