This restaurant is literally just a few minutes from our house. The food is absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is clean but definitely not fancy. They have changed to an order pay at the counter format. They bring your food and check in to see if you need anything. Water and drinks are self serve. The staff members are friendly, but it's not a very "service-oriented" restaurant. We are so happy they reopened! The food really is the star. If you're visiting Chillicothe, give this place a try. I had been on the hunt for some new BBQ spots to try and I came across a list that featured 7 Miles. So the wife and I made a day trip to Chillicothe to give them a shot. When we arrived they weren't too busy, so that was a plus. We walked right in and got seated. Our waitress was very polite and kind. I ordered the Mad Dog and fries. My wife wanted ribs, but they were out of them for the moment. So she got the Messy Pig sandwich with baked beans and mac. The food arrived rather quickly and the Mad Dog was huge. I studied it for a bit to figure out how I was going to attack it. I decided to hit it at an angle. The first bite was tasty, but when I added the house bbq sauce it took it to the next level. From rookie Lebron to 1st Championship Lebron status! The sandwich is really messy and my bottom bun ended up dissolving with the slaw, but it was still very tasty. I couldn't finish it all in one setting so I ended up making tacos with the leftover meat. The fries were hot, but they were just meh. That is the only thing that is keeping me from scoring this place a 5. I tried my wife's mac and cheese because it didn't look like your standard generic mac and cheese. Wanted to go for a scenic drive. Decided Chillicothe was our destination and using Yelp!, found this bbq joint. The store is very quaint with 70's based decor. Staff was nice. Food was okay. The corn potato casserole was the star of the dinner show. The brisket was good but a bit dry and bland, the pork was tasty but having to be careful for burnt parts that were hard to chew kind of killed my mood. The chicken was... well... I don't care for boneless, skinless, chicken breast so we will just leave it at that. The macaroni and cheese was probably 3rd favorite thing but it wasn't something I'd need to ask for recipe or want to try to emulate at home. I do love these kind of places, enjoy supporting the small mom and pops, the people are nice but the food was just not worth the trip. Always a stop when traveling thru Chilicothe! Great BBQ and the best ever Sweet Potato casserole!

This is a gem in southeast Ohio that is a must if you're in the area! Located on the south part of town across the Scioto River, this small diner has some rocking BBQ! They also serve breakfast which I have yet to check out. I ordered a quick takeout so I could watch football on Saturday during lunch, and it wasn't too busy when I came to pick up my food -- my guess is that the OSU was playing at noon. The restaurant was clean and the crew behind the counter was super friendly! I ordered the Big South (feeds 2-3): - Briskets (5/5): oh so juicy, flavorful, and scrumptious! I would just go back for this! - pork (4.5/5): super delicious and had a nice smoky flavor -- goes well with their BBQ sauce. - shredded chicken (2.5/5): eh, wasn't impressed. It had a hint of the smoky flavor but otherwise a bit bland. - 1/2 rack ribs (4/5): yes plz! Def a fan! You can get it dry or wet. I got it wet and def enjoyed it! My slight critique is that I wish the sauce had more of a zing to it than just sweet. It's a personal thing. - 2 sides (I got fried onion rings and sweet potato casserole). Both were solid -- the sweet potato had a nice brown sugar caramelization to it! Overall, I was one satisfied customer. With the portion of the Big South to the price and array of bbq goodness, it's a bargain for some solid bbq! I'd been wanting to come for awhile, but visiting family in town usually means lunch with them, and they're closed on Sundays, so it was hard to get in. Worth the wait. It wasn't busy mid-afternoon on a Saturday, though there were some customers and a steady carry-out business. Service was excellent throughout. It's nothing fancy; looks like an old donut shop or something inside, with a counter and tables. Redone in a laid-back BBQ shack style. Prices are very good for what you get. I had the brisket sandwich, added a 1/4 slab of ribs, and had baked beans for my side plus an order of corn nuggets. Ended up with leftovers, and I was one hungry BBQ-lover, so that says something. The brisket was excellent- lots of flavor in the meat, a nice crust, and a bunch of big slabs of meat on the sandwich. Good bun. The ribs were pretty good, though not as amazing as I'd hoped. Meaty, with flavor through the meat and no sauce needed, but a little overcooked. I got them "wet" with a cherry sauce, but I think they just put that on top of the dry rub, and next time I'll get them dry. The baked beans were thick, not soupy, and tangy. Just the way I like them. The corn nuggets were perfectly cooked, crispy outside, soft cornmeal and corn inside. The sweet tea was just okay, not very sweet. The not-quite-excellent ribs, and the tea, hold me just shy of 5 stars. But if I come back and the ribs are even better, and their other stuff is good, I'll bump it up. I did not try the pulled pork or chicken, and they are proud of their steak and prime rib, so there's a lot more to try. Plus, they have a bunch of interesting sandwiches. This place is amazing! I was working around Chillicothe and wanted bbq, so I used yelp to find a great bbq place, and for the first time in a while yelp failed me, I went to canal smoke house the first time and because of the reviews I though that it must be a regional taste and that's what Ohio bbq tastes like, then the front desk at the hotel recommended here, I'm so glad I tried it! So let's compare the two shale we? 1: ribs, the ribs from canal "smoke" house were over cooked, not smoky and the sauce was terrible, very peppery and vinigery. At this amazing place they use a dry rub and it's sweet and Smokey and you can still taste the delicious pork underneath. 2: pulled pork, the pulled pork from Canal smoke House was obviously old and dry and it did not taste like it was smoked. The pulled pork from here is tender and smoky and taste great with no sauce. I did not try any other similar things at Canal smoke House by here I got the smoked chicken brisket half rack of ribs and pulled pork with two sides the first being onion rings and the second a salad all for 23.99! At Canal smoke House I paid $27 for inferior barbecue. So in conclusion I would recommend going here rather than Canal smoke House. This is one of the best barbecue places I have had and I travel all over the United States. I hope this review helps you and enjoy your food. read more

Decided to check this place out. Ordered the Sampler. It has brisket, pulled pork and chicken. Chicken was super moist, typically dries out badly. The pulled pork was shredded and so moist you wouldn't believe it. Really mild smoke flavor to it. The brisket had a great bark with salt and pepper to it but was a little on the dry side. Mac n cheese was of the baked variety and had a ton of cheese with it. Delicious. Also had the corn and potato casserole. First time ever hearing of this dish. It had the corn and potato and a little cheese it. Quite tasty. The baked beans were made with a fair amount of brown sugar in them. They were quite hearty and we're very filling. The waitress's were off the charts. There were 3 of them and each one checked on me numerous times. Super stuff. The place is in an old style diner that definitely gives you a small town vibe (original Frisch's Diner). They have been there since 2012. I for sure will have to return. read more

The pros: Super clean dining room and counter top Plenty of space,I'm not sure when this place gets busy but it wasn't today at lunch time. Easy to find with plenty of parking The corn nuggets appetizer was pretty bangin'! You get a ton of meat on the combo plate and it was all DELICIOUS! I ate it all & I feel fat now! The chicken was fantastic...super tender, really moist and flavorful! Their brisket was LEAN! The coleslaw was a winner too. They have a ton of sandwich options and a food challenge taboot. The cons: The three stars is because I would've loved more sauce options...having a few really great homemade sauces says a lot about a BBQ joint and makes them competitive with the place down the street. I felt that the sweet thin sauce they serve is kind of weak on flavor. The mac n' cheese was a little grainy and not super cheesy but I liked it. Lastly, none of the meat was smoked very heavily. I saw a smoke ring but didn't get that taste from hours of smoking. This place is really "family oriented" I guess you could say. Oh my gosh ... what a find! My husband and I were on a road trip toward home and, at dinner time, found ourselves NOT wanting fast food and seeking a hot meal that wouldn't take too much time. 5 things 7 Miles has going for it: 1. The Mission Statement - printed on the front of the menu - says it all, "Serving competition worthy southern barbecue everyday!!" Agreed! 2. The Atmosphere - true retro - I'm not sure if this is on purpose but it's in an old Bob's Big Boy and has all the charm of it. I liked it! 3. The Service - fast, friendly, courteous ... we felt like "locals." 4. The Story - also on the menu ... I love a place with a good story and this has it! 5. And now the food - GREAT - everything is prepared that day and it shows. As a result, some things run out and we were later guests that evening. But that says something, yes? The locals obviously know it enough to come and get the best of the best before it runs out. I ordered the burnt ends (they were out) and instead happily enjoyed a well-prepared brisket. My husband has the Messy Pig Sandwich ... also fabulous .... and we had the cole slaw (sweet, mayonnaise centered, which I like, but not everyone does), onion rings and real mac and cheese. I described the experience as "Going to your neighbors cookout ... the neighbor known for the best cookouts in town and makes Grandma's sides from the original recipes." Great experience ... Stop here when traveling to or from Indiana. The best BBQ I've had, even the Carolina BBQ would have a tough time matching up. The 7 mile sauce is my favorite and I use to buy it and ship it to my friends. Mike doesn't do that anymore. My one suggestion would be to create a Carolina sauce that has a little more vinegar as it's base. This would allow for some variety and think it would find a customer following in time. read more

From the outside, this place doesn't look like much, but the food is something special. The sandwiches are amazing. The Mad dog is chicken, beef, and pork, with their special sauce. It's my favorite, and their BBQ sauces are fantastic. Seven Miles isn't the place to go if you're looking for an upscale or business-like atmosphere. They have a solid old-time diner style. If you're looking for a place to go with friends, this is it though! The place is always clean and I have never had bad service. What a surprise to find this awesome BBQ place in this small town on our way to Columbus! I usually go for 2 meat platters, but their sandwiches looked so tantalizing, I caved in. I had the Mad Dog, and certainly anyone is a mad dog to attempt to eat that! My husband had the Triple Threat, and I wasn't crazy about it. However, I would definitely return for the Mad Dog or to try something else. As for sauces, I liked the hot and the Carolina style. The Carolina style was different than I have seen for Carolina style, somewhat like a creamy horseradish sauce. The hot, a nice medium thick, perfectly sweet sauce with a touch of picante (at least for a native Texan, ha). Now the Mad Dog was a towering feat full of all different sorts of smoked meats with a nice amount of sauce and coleslaw. For some reason, the Triple Treat had an Asian bent to it in the slight sauciness surrounding the meat. Anyways, like I said, I would go back for the Mad Dog or try something new. Fantastic experience yesterday. After seeing them at a chamber of commerce event and getting a sample, we decided to visit the restaurant last night. Glad we did! Had The Destroyer sandwich and it was just plain awesome! Friendly service and it was obvious that the employees like working there which is a credit to the management and owner.
