Good art theater if you're in the midtown area, but I wouldn't put it above the Plaza in terms of experience. Seats are somewhat uncomfortable, but location is great. I'll try to save you from the confusion I had. The shared parking lot for the plaza is now 'paid' and there are a ton of signs informing you of this and offering a QR code for payment. The signs weren't overly informative, and the staff at the Landmark didn't' make it completely clear either. However, between my discussion with the staff and some PSAs before the movie, here is what I think is the case: you get 2 free hours of parking in the lot and the Landmark validates for 2 more. So, if you are visiting a restaurant, you probably only have the 2 hours, but if you are seeing a film, you can get up to 4 hours free. I felt better doing the QR code in-theater, so at least I only had to do it once and it stated that I had 4 hours. They need better signs. read more

Don't buy the gift cards or the prepaid movie ticket pack! They are closing lots of locations and will not refund them. In response to public complaints, they added a disclaimer to their website, "If Landmark Theatres ceases to operate in the market where the Gift Cards or Film Aficionado's were purchase please contact via this direct link Landmark Theatres Customer Service for a refund: customerservice@landmarktheatres.com." Parking at this complex is paid, but checking in can get you two free hours and the theater says they'll validate for four. I've been to Landmarks before, including a swanky new one and some more utilitarian older ones, but this one was something else. And not in a good way. The theater space itself was tiny, the seats ancient, and the place was not particularly clean. It had the sense of a place on its last legs. The film selection is a bit different than what you'd find at the bigger chains, and it's worth considering, but if you're going to spend on a night out, you want a nicer place to sit for a couple of hours than this. read more

We are members of a movie group. We often go to tow Midtown Arts. The staff is delightful and varied and the sections interesting. The seating needs to be redone, however and the floors scrubbed well Still, it's one of the couple places that our movie group goes, depending upon the offerings. Really disappointing viewing experiences here. I think it's important to support smaller theaters like this one because they show movies that wouldn't otherwise be shown at a theater. However, this theater has been poorly run for a while now. Films are routinely not projected properly either because the picture is too dim (i.e. not replacing projector bulb), or it's out of focus. I've even been to see a film where the picture was misaligned. Sound from other theaters bleed into each other and the sound you do get is pretty subpar. At around $20 a pop your better going to the bigger chains or the Tara. read more

Worst parking in Atlanta. Scanned 4 signs received 4 different Parkwhiz sites or app launches. Three people in lot leaving for same reason. Finally registered car and went inside to validate. Tried three times going in and out. Registering the car on yet another parkwhiz site or app. Tickets already purchased and movie already started. Plan at least N hour to deal with parking. Don't use parkwhiz app as only choice was to pay $34. Left having wasted money and time. Good luck, you will need it. By the way this has been a constant complaint by neighbors for over a year. This is a very intimate movie theater, not a trendy place with an old classic feel. You can buy different types of beverages, snack options and they have a pretty laid back crowd. The reason for the four stars is because the bathrooms are dirty! So beware! Also, the only change for us was the parking expense but the first two hours are free. It still is inexpensive to park. I went to see a 12:45 showing of the color purple today and left without even sitting down. The movie was showing in cinema room 4. I bought my popcorn, water, and walked over, looking forward to the movie. But every seat in that room looked like it had been trampled by a herd of animals. Hair, dust, stains, and what looked like trampled mud on every seat. It looked like if I sat down, I'd be taking home a critter or 300 with me. I went to the front to ask the staff if they were aware of the dirt on the seats. The staff just shrugged. So I walked out. Guess I have to go to IPIC or regal. This was a cute old timey theater. I didn't realize it wasn't modern until I got there but I liked it! Transported me right back to the 9-9 and 2000s (IYKYK). Don't go in expecting faux leather recliner seats (despite what fandango will tell you) because this ain't that! It's very nostalgic, very demure and I love that they have drink drinks hunny! I had Casamigos reposado and pink lemonade and it was lit ! They have double shots too so you can really unwind! All kinds of adult beverage options and the staff is really nice. It's family friendly as I brought my son and his friend with me (which is why i appreciated the dranks! ) and they had fun too. I'll def be back. read more

I went to see The Last Black Man In San Frnacisco at this theater because it is only showing herr and at Phipps Plaza in all of Atlanta. We missed the first 15 minutes due to traffic. I was ordering food at the concession stand but canceled my order when I noticed the hot dog was in plastic and about to be nuked in the microwave. Nope that wasn't worth $5. We decided to go to the next show and requested a refund/exchange. Upon return to the theater we sat doen in our seats. Ok small and intimate. I can dig that. Old style seating ok I expected that. What I did not expect was the smell of the place. It smelled like it was damp and mildewy. The scent was very strong. At times I had to cover my nose. I'm glad I didn't buy food. The carpet was worn and funky as well. I kind of expected more considering the neighborhood. I enjoyed the movie and the patrons but it was hard to to concentrate when I could hear all of RocketMan music being played through the walls at the screening next to us. This theater is clearly a neighborhood gem for those that live there and do not expect thrills. The staff is very charming and polite especially the ticket taker. Hopefully some funding will come their way soon for some updates. I would hate to see this place close. read more

We chose this theater for nostalgic reasons mainly because it looked like your old school movie theater. Parking: it's in a plaza so it's pretty ample for parking. Service: The kiosks all seemed to have a sign indicating you must go inside to purchase tickets at the concession stand. They do have the option to purchase online but no reserved seating. The cashier was really sweet. Gave us good suggestions on beer and food choices. He got a beer I got a cider. (Starting to be my drink of choice these days). The actual movie we saw was another review in itself but the movie theater did its job. A Movie theater that screens new releases as well as independent, foreign and avant-garde flicks. Not just another big box run of the mill massive chain theater. It definitely has a smaller and more unique feel to it that makes for a cooler experience. If you're looking for everything to be hyper new and modern, this is not the place. It's completely walk-able from midtown and only a few blocks past the park. They have a curated selection of shows and they have very reasonable ticket prices. They tend to show more artistic shows, hence the name "Art Cinema", wish I prefer, but they do also show most big feature films. There are also some great places to eat in the shopping center. Decor is totally 80's vibe. No IMAX or 3-D movies option. You can get standard concession goodies along with a beer or cocktail of your choice. Prices are reasonable. Staff is friendly and helpful. The only place in Atlanta where you can walk up to the ticket booth and buy a ticket for a summer blockbuster during opening weekend. Places like this, that has more character in its movie selection, patrons, and style are great. Check it out, I think you'll like it. read more

Come here if you're tryna spend less $ on a movie. Theaters are old fashioned (no reclining seats or tray table). $7 movie tickets on Monday nights (without service charge)! Snacks are not really cheaper than a regular theater - 8 bucks for a a small popcorn. And staff is great. I would probably come here for every movie because of the $ and because it's cute. The theatre is great. The parking situation is now a nightmare. If your movie runs over two hours, expect to get your car booted or towed. Dinner and a movie? Not here unless you don't need a car. This has been a free parking lot for decades. Now they want you to pay to shop here, dine, or see a movie. Ridiculous. It's not a particularly safe place to walk around at night, so even if you live within a mile or two from the shopping center, you need your car. There needs to be free parking for the theatre. I will go elsewhere and this annoys me because it's my neighborhood. I have no problem during the day, but I typically see movies at night. It's not safe for women to walk to and from that shopping center at night. Not even on the Beltline. read more

The Landmark Midtown Art Cinema is an eight-screen movie theater built in the 80s that plays a mixture of mainstream, independent, foreign language, and documentary films (with an emphasis on the latter three). If you want to watch an independent film, this is one of the few options in town. In addition, the Atlanta Film Festival is held here each spring. The theater is located in the Midtown Promenade (same shopping center as Trader Joe's) on Monroe, sandwiched in between Apres Diem and the Royal Orchid Thai restaurant. Parking can be tight at this shopping center, but I'm usually able to find a spot. Since the theater is over 20 years old, don't expect stadium-style seating, foldable armrests, plush cushioned seats, and plenty of leg room. This is an old-school theater where the seats are worn out, theater rooms have a funny smell, and the bathroom stalls are tiny. Cup holders aren't in the armrests, but instead behind the seats in front of you, making it easier for drinks to be knocked over if you're crossing your legs or passing through the aisle. The concessions here are unique however, as they serve beer, baked goods, and have an espresso bar. read more

Okay. I always forget that this theater is an option. I've only visited once and that was way back in 2012. Unfortunately I've been missing out on a theater that is true to its guest and not just about taking your entire paycheck because you want to treat yourself to a good ol film. Located right off Monroe, hidden behind the Trader Joe's, you'll find this little gem of a theater. Not like your more commercial AMC or Regals theater full of crowds or people waiting in line to get inside, Midtown is rather quiet and not a ton of commotion going on. They have kiosks available for you to purchase tickets when it's not busy and for a Friday night movie it was $11. They have a variety of foods at the concession stand from White Castle burgers to good ol nachos and they also have beer, wine, and a few alcoholic beverage options as well. The theater was very clean, seats were comfy, and the temperature inside was just right. I only came into contact with staff while ordering food and everyone was pleasant. I'll definitely make more trips to this location to see a movie. read more

This theatre took the money out of my account and did not send me a confirmation. Then when I called as I was instructed to do by their website, they told me to come up there only to come up and be rudely treated treated by Tom and whoever his partner was me and my elderly mother were so hurt by the way we were treated as they told us that we would have to pay again, even though I showed them the bank statement that they took the money out of my account on top of that the ceiling is falling apart and could harm anyone at any time. Also, people were coming out of the movie theater, complaining that the volume on the speakers was too low. There was no order. It was totally chaotic. Everyone was complaining and they also opened the theater 10 minutes before the actual movie started and then told us that the movie would be delayed, but I wouldn't know because I didn't get to see the movie as they turned me away with a horrible attitude and told me that they can't let me see a movie for free even though my bank statement said they took the money . don't come here don't come here and fire Tom. read more

This is a review on Management: If I could give the Manager 10000 stars, I would. You see, this theater did a showing of Yellow Submarine, an animated movie meant for ALL ages. Well, when some paying guests did not like the sounds coming from children who were enjoying the movie (and actually know it better than the adult), the family was asked to please leave. The thing is...this little boy who was laughing and singing along to a BEATLES movie, LOVES this movie and his family made this a special outing. So, the mom could have gotten upset and mad, but instead she called and spoke to the Manager to provide an explanation. And you know what the Manager did?!?!? HE INVITED THAT LITTLE KID BACK WITH ALL OF HIS FRIENDS FOR A SHOWING OF YELLOW SUBMARINE ON A WEEKEND MORNING BEFORE THE THEATER WAS OPEN FOR BUSINESS! This, my friend, is why I will ALWAYS support this theater...and the fact that the kids snack pack comes with a Nerds Rope vs. the gross gummies from chain theaters. Wife and I wanted to see a Movie on $4 National Theatre day, we are glad his location was able to accommodate us. I didn't expect to pay $5 for parking, but the lot isn't owned by Landmark Midtown Art anyway. We had pleasant experience with the staff. Friendly, and overall we were pleased to have been able to enjoy the show. I am not going to say any negative comments. We came, saw a movie, and we left. End of story. Thanks Landmark Midtown Art for being there to accommodate us. It cost a lot of money, and a lot of people visiting the theatre, for them to be able to do all the things they would like to do. For this neighborhood I would expect more, but the person I was with, along with a few others, noted to me that M.A.C. has "Art" in it's moniker for good reason and that it's supposed to have a more intimate Art House feel, so with that in mind, if I want a more intimate movie setting, then M.A.C. is the place to go. In my yearly quest to see all the movies nominated for an Academy Award, I rely heavily on Landmark Midtown Art Cinema. It's my go-to theater for great independent, foreign, and documentary films. And every February, for one week only, you can see the Oscar-nominated short films - both animated and live-action - before the ceremony. Yes, I am a fan! I love that I can walk to this theater, and avoid the nightmarish parking situation. Although in inclement weather I have been known to drive there. My advice? Unless you're in good with the gods of the parking lot, either drive straight to the back of the theater to avoid the craziness of the movie lot, or park up in the front lot near the light. Yes, you may have to walk, but you'll feel less guilty about the Red Stripe and the popcorn. And if you want to have a great date night, pair a trip to the movies with dinner at any one of the fine dining establishments nearby. There's something for everyone, from Nam to Apres Diem to the Highlander. So why only four stars and not five? Because if it's mainstream movie-fare you want to see, you're better off heading to one of the newer theaters around town for the stadium seating, surround sound, and 3D screens. This is one of Atlanta's only two arts theaters that shows independent films! For example, I attended a documentary screening of Somewhere Between, followed by a meet & greet with producer Linda Goldstein Knowlton & student Haley Butler. I also saw VAXXED followed by a Q & A with producers Del Bigtree & Polly Tommey at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema. It is fairly easy to access at the southeast corner of Piedmont Park. LMAC has interesting films, good popcorn & beverages, friendly employees and plentiful parking. Bring a notebook if you want to take notes. read more

I was going to open with "there's a little something for everyone at Landmark Midtown" but then I realized that's not true. The fact is that it's an old theater lacking modern conveniences like stadium seating, IMAX screens, and cushy recliners to name a few. And that's probably a turn off for some people. But I can look past that to appreciate its many other qualities: LOCATION: It's smack dab in the middle of Atlanta in the Midtown Promenade Center. That means you can do things like browse Richard's Variety Store, shop at Trader Joes or hit Bruster's for ice cream before or after the movie. Its proximity to local restaurants also makes it a convenient destination for dinner and a movie. ON THE MARQUEE: They play a mix of big-budget movies and limited engagements. The allure of the indies and documentaries is obvious since you can't see them at other theaters. But consider seeing blockbusters here too. Why? Because (generally speaking) the people who come to Landmark are actually into watching movies. That means they aren't likely to be distracting everyone around them by talking through the movie or texting away the entire time. CONCESSIONS: I love their selection of movie candy (pictured) and they have Toblerone! The caramel popcorn is a close second and they also have treats like pretzels, cheese sticks and chicken tenders. QUALITY OF FILMS: Top quality films play on every screen. Today's lineup features films that are either Academy Award nominees, Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh or both: Star Wars, The Revenant, The Big Short, Joy, Brooklyn, The Danish Girl, Anomalisa and Mustang. If it's playing at Landmark then odds are it'll be good. FILMMAKER LETTERS: Their website features letters from directors, producers and screenwriters. This theatre has character. It is not shiny-corporate. It is sort-of "old school" as far as theaters go. But they connect very well with Atlanta's cinema-afficionado community (Atlanta Film Festival, and other film clubs & events). The concession stand sells beer and wine (along with all the other stuff one would find at a theater concession stand). And there are cool places nearby to get a meal or dessert before / after your show. I've seen many "rare" films here long before they became mainstream "buzz" for the rest of the world. Overall the theatre is ok but it's just not for me. Location: It's on the first floor of strip mall so I've never had a hard time finding parking in the area. Restrooms: They appear to be clean but smell like they could use a good mopping with a bleach water. Concessions: To be a small theatre I didn't expect the prices to be as high. A bag of gummy bears, caramel popcorn and a large bottle was $17.75. They do have a nice selection. I seen pretzels, popcorn, White Castle burgers, beer, wine and some more items. Staff: The few staff members I encountered all seem very pleasant. Maybe they were just excited to see more faces. It was pretty empty when I got there. Theatre: This is where I was disappointed. To me it seems like they tried to fit too many seats inside one theatre. The cup holders are on the back of the seats and the aisle is extremely narrow. Either way you will be bumping the person sitting down or knocking over their drinks as you try to exit the row. The cup holders almost seem like an after thought. I feel bad for someone trying to get out of the row while the movie is playing. I don't even want to get back up again because I know I will be on top of everyone trying to get out. The people in my row don't seem willing to stand or ft out the row for you even when I said excuse me. FYI every time I have been here the ticket window outside is never in use. We had a great experience here. Walking into the lobby, it's like a step back in time with the neon decorations and old-school concession stand. Plus, it's fun to check out all the classic film posters -- all in French. The theater was comfortable and the crowd was polite. The only reason I took away a star is because we could hear the sound from the next theater over bleeding through the walls, and it was a little distracting at times. But I loved it. Will be back! The theater is okay. Small, kinda dirty/dingy, out-of-date... but has some nice features, like the beer and wine, and the lack of lines. It depends if you'd like to sit in kinda gross feeling seats with lower quality sound/visuals looking at the back of the head of the person in front of you or drive to a nicer, more crowded theater. The problem here is the staff. The manager here is an inept retard. When some queen (wrongly) accused us of talking in the theater, the manager drug us out to explain, then told us we could go back and watch the movie - after making us miss fifteen minutes. Um, no. If she would have stepped in the theater for two minutes, she could have easily discerned the problem and handled it appropriately. I suppose I'm the real fool for expecting a logical approach to problem-solving from someone who wears sweat pants to work and probably doesn't earn more than $10/hr. But hey, if you hate someone and happen to stalk them to this theater, you can easily manipluate the three brain cells amongst the entire staff into ruining their movie experience. Easily the best theater downtown, mainly because they manage to keep a fair mix of quality mainstream films and independent releases that don't get picked up anywhere else in the city. The ambience of the place is good, doesn't feel too corprorate or too cramped. As has been mentioned below, there's a wide selection of other places to visit before/after your movie, with several decent bars (the Indepedent & Apres Diem) and restaurants, so that you can make a night of it all in once place. Ticket prices are high, as they are most everywhere these days, so don't expect anything out of the ordinary there. They have student discounts at certain hours, but not on weekends during prime time showings. In a slightly more unique move, the refreshment stand has beer, wine and coffee, and isn't so expensive as to make them undesirable. Parking sometimes gets out of hand, esp. on Friday nights, so you might have to do a bit of circling to end up with a spot. read more

Ten years ago I came here all the time for random movie club, midnight showings of old movies, and the only place to find indie films. Then I moved away. Now I'm back and I'm sad to report nothing has changed. The seats look newer but the theaters still have that wet hamster cage smell, the floors looking more like the concrete of a jail cell. Ten in the morning and they're still sticky.... They've done absolutely nothing to improve the seating what so ever. Ok, wait, they do look newer, perhaps a sale on used furniture from a high school theater. Most theaters have a slanted floor, with each seat sitting a little higher than the one in front. MAC does this in reverse. The front seats are higher than the back seats, and some of the theaters are like a fishbowl. Prices have not gotten any better. It's $8 for a matinee and you can't buy a bottle of water for less than $4.50. If the theater didn't want people sneaking food and drink in, you would think they'd lower the prices just a LITTLE bit. The sound is decent, the screen in 1 and 3 a tad hazy. The employees are nice but that's about it as far as positives go. If another theater that showed indie films with just better seating opened up this place would go under. Probably for the better... read more

The best theater in Atlanta to catch the non-blockbuster caliber film. Of course, Midtown Arts runs the big name movies, but it's the selection of indie, foreign, documentaries, and art house films that set it apart. It's kind of a quirky, retro lounge color scheme in the lobby, and huge movie posters in French decorate the walls. The snack bar is about fifty steps above the standard movie popcorn and overpriced drinks. The prices aren't crazy like other theaters too. Midtown Arts has plenty of special events and screenings, and are involved as a venue for the Atlanta Film Festival. My favorite special event at this theater was spending an afternoon there for a Bruce Campbell book signing. read more
