    Fresh baked Lebanese
    Barry M.

This strip mall ethnic grocery is a real gem. It appears to cater primarily to the local Middle Eastern population, and contains a wide range of dry goods from that area. You can find regional delicacies such as figs, dates, Turkish delight, and many staples and specialties. There is a halaal butchery in the back. Probably the most impressive part of the store is its bakery, which produces an array of sweet and savory baked goods. Some, like baklava, you will know, while the rest you will want to know. There are also a highly intriguing set of Lebanese/Middle Eastern deserts which simply demand to be sampled. So far, everything we have tried has been delicious, although I have no idea what the name of many of these items are. Overall the shop is very clean and attractively laid out, and the service is extremely friendly

I've spent years searching for the perfect deli sandwich. Every time I'd find a place I liked,…read moresomething would eventually disappoint me. Maybe the bread wasn't fresh, the lunch meat tasted processed, or the quality just wasn't consistent. Tony & Tina's Deli is the first place that has truly become my go-to. I absolutely love their subs, especially the Brayden. I always order the large, and it's packed with so much fresh meat that I can give a generous portion of the turkey to my toddler as a snack and still have a full sandwich left for myself. That's saying something! Their potato salad is also outstanding. It tastes homemade, not like something scooped out of a mass-produced container. It's exactly the kind of potato salad you picture enjoying on a hot summer day. What really sets Tony & Tina's apart is the customer service. The owners genuinely care about their customers. I've only had one issue, and it wasn't even their fault. It was a delivery service problem. They personally responded and made sure everything was handled professionally and promptly. If you haven't been there yet, give them a try. Grab a sandwich, check out the desserts, and if you're feeling lucky, they even have gaming machines. If you're busy and work from home like I do, their app makes ordering incredibly easy. Tony & Tina's has earned a customer for life!

DELICIOUS sandwiches! We also discovered that they use a local bakery for FRESH BAKED "FANTASTIC" BREAD! But it did not stop there... The owner (Tony) informed us that the Ham, Turkey, and Beef, are all prepared FRESH on site (This is NOT processed "Lunch meat"). I enjoyed the Italian sandwich, and my dining partner had the Club... Very delicious, generous portions, and fair pricing. We placed an order for a variety of 100 catered mini-sandwiches and Tony took special care to treat us right... THANKS Tony! It's a joy to visit a restaurant (Or any business) where the owners are personally Operating it and engaging with the guests... This place is a MUST VISIT!! Did I say, WOW, WOW, WOW?

3.5 stars, but rounded up because I didn't feel they deserved any deduction…read more I was REALLY looking forward to their #20 Old New Yorker, which I got in their Navel Cut pastrami. It was a solid 7, which is why I place it at 3.5 stars. I may be being picky here but it just wasn't to the level of "melt-in-your-mouth" pastrami standards for me. Not to say it wasn't good, because it was perfectly fine. In fact, it's better than most of the pastrami sandwiches I tried in Chicagoland. Maybe it's the fact that I had to bring it back to the office to eat it, and half hour had gone by and pastrami weren't as warm and the Jewish rye had become soggy by the time I took the first bite. I mean, it goes without saying that the sandwich would have been 3 times better had I sat down immediately and had it. Again, all things considered, it was a perfectly good sandwich. One interesting thing was that I had never been to an establishment that included a half sour pickle instead of a normal one and gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. Pickles can be a hit or a miss for me. I like my pickles to be crunch, but some places offer overripened ones that become borderline mushy. Schmaltz's half sour pickle was not overly salty or sour, making it very attractive for me. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm convinced that I'll have to go back and try their #14 Sloppy Paul, which is the corned beef with sauerkraut, which is another favorite of mine. And this time, I'll be sure to dine in and give another review of it to see how much I like them better.

Lots of fun deli sandwiches to choose from. I chose a French Dip; hubby had a pick two-- a cup of matzo ball soup, and 1/2 corned beef sandwich. Both served with a whole new pickle. Mine was absolutely delicious. Tons of beef, melty swiss, and grilled onion. Served nice and hot with a tasty au jus. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his as well. Great Jewish deli. Highly recommend whether you're Jewish or not! ;)

By this point, I think Berto's has earned enough recognition in DG to be a historical landmark like…read morethe Tivoli Theatre. Not only does this shop fully support the community -- even naming sandwiches after nearby schools, they also have a wide variety of delicious offerings. I haven't lived in IL for about 10 years and I decided to take a walk down memory lane and visit Berto's like I did regularly so many years ago. It hit theeee exact same. Family traditions so strong you can taste them in every bite and they've now carried that torch successfully for nearly three decades. This family owned Deli is exact place you want to support and the best spot to stop for lunch or a quick to-go dinner to bring home to the family. They also have prepped frozen pasta and sauces. Parking behind the building and cutting through the alley makes it easily accessible.

First time trying Berto's today after hearing good things about their sandwiches…read more I placed an Uber Eats pickup order around 11:40 AM, and the app notified me around 11:50 that the order was ready. I arrived around noon. The place wasn't busy from a customer standpoint. There was no line, a few people eating, and four employees behind the counter preparing food. I could already see a bag with my name on it sitting behind the counter, but after standing there for a couple minutes, nobody acknowledged me. Eventually someone came over, but there was no greeting, smile, or "Can I help you?" I gave my name, he put the bag on the counter, slid it aside, and walked away without saying anything. As I started leaving, another employee called out that the order actually wasn't ready yet, despite the app saying it was. She added another sandwich to the bag, tied it up, and handed it back to me. Again with no thank you, apology, or even basic friendliness. The sandwiches were decent, but not so amazing that the customer experience doesn't matter. I'm seeing this kind of indifferent attitude at more and more restaurants lately, and it really affects whether I come back. A little acknowledgment and courtesy goes a long way.
