I've been going to Krista at 77Salon for 10 years now, and I truly wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. My hair is a whole project -- naturally dark brown Asian hair (almost black!), and over the years I've asked for everything from platinum blonde, balayage, full head highlights, lobs, extensions, and everything in between. Krista has executed every. single. style. flawlessly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She is incredibly skilled, articulate, and really takes the time to understand exactly what you want while being honest about what will work best for your hair.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I constantly get compliments on my hair, and that's all because of her talent. Update: Ok, first at-home wash and style done. The verdict? 7/10. Hair is shinier and a little easier to flat-iron. I had hoped for more of a straightening effect, but I realize keratin treatment is more for smoothing/frizz reduction than straightening. I think my hair might require the nuclear option of permanent straightening. Glad I tried the keratin though, and we'll see how well it holds up. Fed up with my unruly hair, I finally decided to bite the bullet and try keratin treatment, which different stylists have been recommending to me for years. I haven't done it until now because of 1) the cost, and 2) concern about the chemical exposure. Well, in 2025, in a rare instance of doing something right, Gavin Newsome signed a law into existence prohibiting the use of formaldehyde and other highly toxic chemicals in hair relaxers in California. So that alleviated some of the concern about the chemical exposure; it's still not innocuous, but it's better than it was. I decided to schedule a treatment, in addition to an overdue haircut, and used Yelp to look for a salon. 77Salon came up as a salon in my area that does keratin. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called and first asked the receptionist to send me the name of the keratin formula they use so I could confirm it is indeed formaldehyde-free. She promptly did so, and I confirmed that it is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I called back to schedule, and scheduled a haircut and keratin with Anita. A new stylist is always a gamble, so I kept my fingers crossed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The salon sent me one request for confirmation via email, and did not blow up my phone with reminders, which I appreciated[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I arrived for the appointment, and the nice receptionist welcomed me and asked if I would like coffee or tea. I half-jokingly asked if they had something, uh, higher octane, and she didn't miss a beat, asking me if I prefer champagne or rose.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ok, girl!!! Glass of rose in hand, I was taken to my chair where my appointment with Anita began. Anita explained the keratin process, and we got started. So here's the process, since none of the other reviews cover it in any detail: 1) Hair is washed multiple times to make sure it is squeaky-clean for the treatment. 2) Hair is blow-dried 3) Keratin formula is applied, small hair sections at a time 4) Once formula is applied to the entire head of hair, a shower cap is put on for the hair to marinate for 30 minutes 5) Hair is blow-dried. The formula does not get washed out, it needs to be 'baked' into the hair 6) Hair is flat-ironed (not sure if this is true for everyone, but mine was, since I want a straighter look). Anita gave me instructions for aftercare: You need to leave the hair alone for 3 days. No washing, styling, tying/clipping/kinking in any way whatsoever. After that, can resume normal hairstyling, but must use sulfate-free hair products. That's it! My appointment was scheduled for 4 hours, 15 minutes, but I was done in under 3.5. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Anita was a pleasure, engaged with me throughout, and we had a nice chat about all kinds of things.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will update my review after washing my hair for the first time, which is the real test, but so far, great experience overall. IMPORTANT: Tips are only accepted via cash or Venmo (which I don't use), so come prepared. My partner graciously used his Venmo for the tip, otherwise I would have needed to mail in cash (no ATMs anywhere around). read more

JD and Anita have both been doing my hair for years; they've taken me through fashion color to full highlights to partials to balayages and back to natural, all while maintaining the integrity of my hair and educating me on best hair care practices. I went to 77 salon for the first time to get a blow out, and my girl Ariel did an amazing job. This salon is pretty spacious and has a lot of stylists working there. There's a shampoo section near all the seats and a back section, if you want more privacy or wear a head cover. For close to $200, all I got was a couple of layers in front, resembling NOTHING of the photo I showed her. If I could sum up 77Salon or more specifically Krista and Nora it would be "WOW!" It is insanely difficult to find a great hairstylist that goes the extra mile, actually listens to you, and will you give you their honest feedback. I hadn't gotten my hair done since the start of COVID and it was long overdo. I'll be honest and say it was like a rat's nest! Lol I asked around, and I was recommended this place by multiple friends and coworkers. Everyone kept telling me to see Krista! I am so grateful to have gone to her and have her very talented hands grace my hair. It was my first time getting color. She was so accommodating, friendly, honest, caring, and just all around cool. By chance I signed up to be their training model for hair cut and hair coloring paying a minimal fee for styling and products. You will not be disappointed in any way as long as you have the funds for their expertise. 6/22 hair cut (shampoo and styling) was $130 w/o tip. I saw Nicki and she was on the same par as Jen. This is the only place my Mom and sister will get their hair cut. That is saying something as far as my Mom goes. She has tried everywhere and is not satisfied with what she exits with except here. I just got my first balayage about a month ago, and had a great experience with Ashley! Not only did she take the time to explain the process to me and to collaborate with me about how much sounded right for the first go-around (which helped give me more confidence with the whole thing!), but she was also really friendly and personable throughout. In addition to all of that, I let her know about an hour into the process that I had a time limitation (eek! my bad!). While it was clear--novice that I was with this--that I hadn't allotted enough time, Ashley and two Associate Stylists (Ana & Angeles, I think??) simply got in gear and intentionally worked quickly and efficiently. While I can imagine I'd put THEM (unintentionally) in a bit of a tough situation, they were nothing but kind and accommodating. Ashley even moved my car because the meter was running out! So, not only great service, but the end result was also great. They rushed for me, but didn't compromise the outcome in the process! The first person I saw afterwards (not knowing I'd just come from the salon) pronounced, "Wow! Your hair looks great!" I also want to add that I've gotten numerous great cuts from both Lisa and Deeann! Lisa has given me a lot of cuts that leave my hair looking elegant and softly layered, and Deeann has offered me some great choppy texture. Thanks to them, too! read more

I'm a 20 yr customer of 77Salon. That's a good 10-12 services per yr for 20 yrs (haircuts, highlights, hair treatments). Let's do the math: 200-240 services = $20,000 over 20 yrs. And that's not including tips and products. Make no mistake - the stylists have all been good. Hence, I've been a 77Salon customer for 2 decades. So why this review? For the 2nd time in 20 yrs, I asked for a touchup. The owner said 'no' and she doesn't want me as a client anymore. Perhaps she's had a hard time due to covid or had a bad day. She's never met me, never talked with me, knows nothing about me or this circumstance. 2 less-than-perfect services out of 200-240 is ~1%. Pretty darn good and all the more reason a customer should be able to give feedback and ask for a touchup. While I shall miss Gina for haircuts and Yolanda for highlights, I very much look forward to supporting a local business owner who stands by her/his/their business and services, and delivers outstanding Customer Experience. I was told that prices depend on which stylist you get. The person who was there before me also commented on this to the receptionist. It seems way too expensive for what you get. Yelpers were not wrong in suggesting Nikki for curly hair cuts! She was great...took her time, listened to my wants and hair needs and gave me a great haircut. At first, I was a bit skeptical because the price for a haircut. In the past, I've paid no more than $30 for a cut so it was quite a jump for me. After skimming through many of the reviews, I made an appointment with Michelle. Michelle is GREAT! She is by far one of the best I've had cut my hair. She listened to exactly what I wanted, gave me her suggestions on what would be best for my hair and I loved the cut. She takes her time and doesn't rush. Very detail oriented. She's also very talkative and friendly! I'm also very chatty so it's fun going in getting my hair done, and getting to know your hairdresser. Most of the time when you go in, your hairdresser doesn't really talk to you and it feels almost awkward (for me anyway). Brandon never fails to make my hair look amazing. He takes his time and makes sure that every piece of hair is perfectly cut - I love his attention to detail and the pride that he takes in his work. His haircuts always grow out really well too, which is always nice. But this review is really for the AMAZING job that Brandon did on my husband's haircut for our wedding. He was able to trim it perfectly so that it retained the length that we wanted, but had a better shape that allowed the hair to fall perfectly without much maintenance. He also showed him how to style it so that he felt confident doing it for the wedding. When I read through the reviews and their website I was super excited to try out this salon. I had 1.5 hair growth from the pandemic and was looking forward to getting a style again. However, I was really disappointed by the experience. I wanted to go to CJ, but he was booked for 6 weeks so I went to Lisa instead. I had hoped that a "master" stylist would transform my hair. When I arrived the girl at the reception desk asked my name and then sat me at Lisa's chair and told me to wait. For 10 minutes I just looked around, feeling uncomfortable and ignored. eventually Lisa came out and said hi and confirmed that I was getting a haircut. Then she just stared at me. I pulled up some photos of previous haircuts and asked for her to do something similar. I asked for her opinion about the length, the angle and my part and all three times she deferred back to me. I have a long face and double chins and wanted her help to hide these. She wasn't much help. In fact, she even asked how I wanted her to dry it! I purposely chose to pay the high price of a "master" for opinions about my hair and I basically directed how she should do the cut. She half dried it, then said "done!" and handed me the mirror. It was okay. Not bad, but not stellar. She walked me other the receptionist, who once again didn't even muster a smile. She took my card, charged me $118 dollars and said I was done. I asked about adding a tip and she said cash or venmo and then went back to talking with her friend at the desk. Not a $118 experience! I've paid less at salons throughout San Francisco and had much better experiences. When I got home I had to re-wash all the products out of my hair (I'm not sure why she put so much in!) and re-dry it completely. I definitely did not feel welcome at this salon. My hair has been cut into short bobs when I had distinctly asked to keep it long. I've ended up with bangs when I wanted layers, and was even told once that I would be charged extra for my incredible amount of hair. For most of my life I thought that that was as good as it got, and that I'd have to live with my poofy unkempt mop, mostly tied back in a pony tail -- for the benefit of my friends and onlookers. I met Michelle about two years ago, when she was working at Alexander Pope, and was immediately captivated by her "shear" skills and quick wit. I've never had bad hair since. Not only does she give you a great cut for $50, but she offers great conversation and personality to boot. I'm always talking or laughing and have never felt bored or the urge to bury my head in a magazine. For my 'do she delicately evens out my thick hair, shaping my long curls into varying lengths and layers, producing my often mistaken for "hair model" look. The cut fits my hair type so well that styling isn't necessary -- I just wash and air dry, saving me hours each morning -- a perfect match to my personality and lifestyle. Sometimes I even think she knows maybe a little too much about me. "Is this a breakup cut?" she asked me one day, after asking her to chop off all of my hair. "Well, maybe.. I guess it is." The owner (Marisol) called me today regarding my bad experience. After a long chat of her apologizing on behalf of the horrible stylist Megan she kindly offered me a treatment so that my hair could be up to par in order to do the work required. I have to say that my hair really isn't in THAT bad of repair... I'm not sure what the stylist told the owner... but I am pretty sure she exaggerated the bad quality of my hair. (I use salon products and spend a fortune on treatments already, but even so after a long career of modeling my hair has never been the same :-( ) Anyways, I was impressed that Marisol called the day after my horrible experience and she was very kind to offer me a treatment on the house. I did decline the invitation however. Like I said, I would feel extremely uncomfortable going into the salon again. I won't ever go back. It was a horrible experience, regardless of Marisol's generous damage-control offer. I do want to be fair and that's why I am updating my review. read more

$250 for cut an color ($300 w/tip)!?!?!? And I had to go back to redo my color because the "master of color" turned out to be just average colorist. "Would you like to schedule your next appt?" "No, thanks!" P.S Cut was good. read more

If I could give them more stars, I would. The extra stars would be for the massage chairs at the shampoo bowls. Genius! Jennifer has really put some thought and effort into this salon. It's beautiful, relaxing, and functional. Very impressive. Jennifer always gives a great cut and her coloring expertise is unmatched. She says that all of the stylists are top notch. I believe her.
