dirty salon! rude management! Works are sitting around but do not take customers unless manager says so

They rush to get your nails done the nails are not done well. The left lumpy and bumpy not worth wasting your money. Poor job.

In anticipation of my upcoming trip to the sunshine state, I thought it was a good time to get a pedicure. My mom recently told me that they charge $27 for a gel pedicure at 79 Nails in Bloomfield. This is obviously unusually low, so when I called to make an appointment for this morning they told me it was $41 for a gel pedicure, which is still a very reasonable cost. I went inside, I didn't have to wait at all. The gentleman immediately had a foot bath running for me. He gave me the sample colors to choose the color I want. I went with a light sky blue. I was a bit disappointed when I saw that none of the tools had been prepackaged, which means they are not sterilized. He did do a nice job of exfoliating my legs and feet. However, he did comment something in his native language while he was using the grater, and all of the workers looked at my feet and at me, and said something. This wasn't super professional and I didn't appreciate it. Once he was done with all of the exfoliating and the prep work, a different lady came in to do the pedicure. I liked her quality of work. The massage chair was nice, but a bit too gentle for my preference. My pedicure looks good, let's hope I don't develop a fungus, due to the tools used on me. Today was supposed to be another day of pampering. However, yet again while the end result was great, the lack luster customer interaction was terrible. Starting from the initial inquiry I made to see the cost to have the gel polish removed from my natural nails. I was quoted $22.00 included with the basic manicure. I was asked if I were going to come in and I said yes as I also needed my eybrows waxed. I was asked how long before I arrived and I stated about 10 minutes. As I am driving into the lot to my surprise the salon who did not have my permission to call me on my cell, the person asked when I was to arrive. I addressed the first issue very kindly by stating that I didn't give permission to be called on my personal line. I was told "well, we have caller ID". I don't care what you have you didn't obtain my permission to call me back. I hadn't made an appointment that needed a follow-up. This was highly inappropriate which the salon staff knew because she didn't want to identify herself after I repeatedly asked her who she was. Upon me answering she belts out several times "are you coming" I remained calm. Upon entering the salon as time was not on my side to visit another one, she is pleasant and asks me if I was the one she spoke to on the phone, totally disregarding her error in calling me in the first place. I let her do my eyebrows which were very good. She then leads me to her station handing me a nail color wheel. I chose #525 which is a deep black sparkle. She proceeded to open and start applying a very bright orange. When I politely correct her of the number I chose she then pulled out a clear sparkle with black flecks and asked me if that was ok. Evidently I wasn't supposed to able to tell the difference between dark black with specs and clear polish with specs in it.. Instead of her saying they are out of the #525 she gets a stark black color then proceeds to put the same clear sparkle over it which turned out very pretty. Prior to putting the color on she asked to be paid which is standard to avoid damaging wet nails before they set. However, the $22.00 plus the $8.50=$30.50 pre-tax somehow turned into $33.00 plus tax now I'm paying over $35.00-why? I still tipped her $6.00 cash and now am at a total of $41.00. I'm all for supporting a small business but what is going on here!?!?!?!?! This is the initial reason I stopped patronizing them before-not enough attention to detail and all about the bottom line. As usual I will have to find a new place. SO sad. You have the best price around for eyebrow waxing and you are very good at what you do. Fix the issues please. Or maybe you don't care because of the area and you know people will stop in because you are local to many wanting your products and services. Repeat clients are those happy from the moment they walk in until they walk out. Not how I was made to feel today. Giving yet another chance despite the obvious lack of respect to my private cell phone number, the cavalier attitude about it and trying to pawn off the wrong color twice which meant she wasn't listening from the beginning and she tried to get over by opting for less than I requested then trying to double down instead of just saying you were out of a color. Trust, I would have chosen another color. Then you overcharge me. WOW. It's not rocket science but maybe I'm asking for too much. read more

I'm writing this review to explain that: it's all about who you go to! This business is such a nice establishment because the owner is so caring and professional. The employees are kind and respectful and truly work hard. I had a great exeperienece even though someone messed my nails up bad. So bad I had to go back 2 days later to get a whole new fill! The customer service was some of the best I've ever experienced in a nail shop. The new person who did my nails did such a great job! Don't be afraid to look at the people doing nails to decide who is good and who one wants! read more

The place overall was decent looking. I was greeted immediately then I waited for 25 minutes. I wanted a fill, cut down, coffin shape and white polish (gel) My nails were not shaped correctly and the nails are very thick. Also the polish itself is very thick, I did have her do an extra coat because it looked super lumpy. Overall just a bad experience. They seem to have regulars which is good but I won't be coming back. I came here despite reading other bad reviews because I didn't want to drive very far as I am new to Bloomfield. ***The French tips are my previous nails !! I really hate to do this. I dont usually give bad reviews...but I am so upset about this. A friend found this place as we were looking for a new place. I wanted the powder. The first 2x it was ok...I was a little annoyed that I got charged a "cut down" fee, as cutting your nails is part of a mani, but I dealt with it. I went yesterday and when she was done, I looked down and I was so upset. My nails were half grown out, and while she filled them, there was a huge space that you could see..as if she didnt fill them. I told her and she told me that next time i needed a new set. I was furious. She did tell me last time, but never said it when I sat down. She put a coat of polish on, and the color is awful, my nails are thick and the polish is thick and chunky. I will NEVER go back there. I also got a pedi a few weeks ago there and it was awful. read more

I was terrified to try somewhere other than my regular place but was by my in-laws and I really needed a pedicure. I called and asked how long the wait would be for a pedicure and the response I got was come now no wait. I get there I'm immediately greeted and asked to pick a color. I let her know I want white gel. I was placed into a chair and bowl and sat there for 30 mins while they finished up with other clients they could have just told me to come in 30 minutes. I did give them a look and a lady told me 5 minutes but why waste my time. Then my gel polish chipped within one week. I do not recommend them for pedicures. read more

The only reason I've gone back here despite receiving very poor service every time is because it's the only nail salon that's close by my office. They don't sterilize anything, really don't push back cuticles, apply oil, lotion or even bother while they're putting on polish. If you can go somewhere else, go. read more

Gel comes off within a week. Went once and gave it a couple more tries because of how inexpensive it was, but probably won't go back. Worth going somewhere a little more expensive for better quality. I never had a bad experience with the service but I've seen people walk out because their SNS powder was literally being scratched off their finger nails - looked painful. read more

This place is horrible and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone . The manager is extremely rude to the customer's . I got a pedi done and it was horrible . I informed the manager prior to me leaving the salon that i did not like my toes and see that they're busy I'll be back . I then called to inform her again on the phone and she dismissed me by yelling "bye, bye , bye , bye" in my ears . I supported this place numerous times and this will be my last time . read more

Gorgeous clean, new salon. Very trendy atmosphere. The owner offers free wine to his clientele. My complaints are twofold: first with the nail tech Laurie who worked with me and second with the owner. The nail tech ground my natural nails down with a drill, which has weakened them and made them break. Then, the gel polish she applied chipped the very next day and continued to chip and flake off. The reason I get gel polish to begin with is because it doesn't chip for weeks. Second, the owner continually made very inappropriate sexual innuendos to the clients that made me feel very uncomfortable. Keep in mind, I am not a shy person by any means. I use to go to this salon religiously for the clean atmosphere but as the salon ages it is not being up kept well. The only person who can do nails halfway good is Lori, the other two Tommy and Lilly do your nails in a rush and your nails look like a blind person painted them in the end. Requested a simple polish change and was asked repeatedly if I wanted gel or tips. No, I do not want anything extra than what I asked for and do not appreciate being told that my nails would look better with tips. I work in healthcare and not everyone can wear tips. read more

You get what you pay for. The one employee was laid across the couch with his feet on it and on the window. Don't expect him to actually get up. He will help you as he stays horizontal. The lady who took care of me is very nice but it is a rush job. read more

This is the worst nail salon I've ever been to!! Do not come here. First I was greeted immediately by the nail technician in the front where she let me know it would be a 25-30 minute wait because they were all busy which is understandable. 15 minutes later a woman and her child walked in and asked how long she was told 35-40 minutes. She went to her car and returned 30 minutes later and was taken immediately, when I questioned the technician said she had an appointment. 15 minutes later another woman came in and asked how long the wait was she was told 40 minutes she said she would come back, when she returned 15 minutes later she was to taken immediately. I confronted the nail technician and she said they had an appointment, which they did not because just like me they only asked how long the wait would be and didn't say they had an appointment. I got a simple manicure, one color. The service was good, nothing special. The customer service on the other hand was not. I will go somewhere else next time. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I waited to write this review because I wanted to remove the emotion from the experience so I could be fair on my opinion. I had been to this nail salon in the past and was turned off by the service and the way the nail tech did my nails. In the past, I use to go to Laurie in the salon. She was nice but my gel color polish would always be thick and unnatural. I stoped going to the salon because of this. Monday 4/13 I could not get my nails done by my regular nail tech at another salon so I went to 79 nails to get a simple gel color polish On my fingers and a polish change on my toes. I was going out of town later that day and was pressed for time. When I got to the salon Laurie was busy so I decided to wait for the next available tech. Amother woman who worked there asked me to pick a color for my nails. I told her I had my polish color with me. She told me to sit down at a station right next to her. She was in the middle of servicing another client. A few minutes later a guy walks in. He was visibly hung over because his eyes were extremely red and he smelled like alcohol. He talked to the other nail tech in their language and plopped down at my table without saying Hello. I initiated a Hello. He then proceeded to do my nails and continued to talk and laugh. I asked him if he was hungover and told him I could smell the liquor on him. He laughed and asked me if I liked it. Ummmm...No! When he finished my nails he just got up and walked off. I looked at my nails and saw that they were a thick sloppy mess. Polish was piled around my cuticles and it was streaked worse that 80's highlights. I didn't get angry because I refused to be upset while I got ready for my vacation. I paid and left with the feeling of my money was wasted. My nails started to peel the very next day. I would NEVER return to this salon. Not only because my nails looked like a 5 year old did them, but because of the lack of good customer service and the unprofessionalism of the man who did my nails. He really sucks. read more

In all of the places in CT that have done my nails, I've never been completely satisfied with my nails until I started going here. I like the ambience, it's a beautiful salon, very calm. Every time I come this this place I leave angry and upset. The first time the lady tried to charge me 80 for an ombré nail which is way higher than anyplace I've ever been to. Then the second time I waited almost an hour and a half to get my nails done. People came in after me and got service before me which I asked why and no one said anything. I will NEVER visit this salon again! I went in for a pedicure after a stressful day and was greeted by the owner at the door smoking a cigarette. When the owner asked another male employee to take me as a customer he looked highly inconvenienced by having to work. I chose a decent color from the horrible selection they had, and placed my feet in the cold water they set up for me. The place looked dirty, the owner took a nap on the couch for his customers the entire time, and no one in there looked like they cared at all about the business or their job. My toes were not shaped, and the guy only put two coats of polish on that is still transparent. It was such a long day I didn't even bother asking him to fix it. While my toes were drying, the employee rinsed out the tools used on my feet with tap water and placed them back on his tray...GROSS!! Then took the towel that my feet were on and wiped the foot bath... But it gets better, he took off the gloves worn during the pedicure and put them on his tray! I am so disgusted and appalled at the lack of sanitation. There was never any employee hand washing; and if there was it wouldn't have mattered because the soap was empty! When I got up to pay, the owner and other male employee were laying in the couches, and he didn't even get up to ring me out! A woman working with another customer got up to take my money! I cannot believe they did not care at all! The owner is a drunk alcoholic, and only wants your money. I have been a customer of this salon for quite some time now, and though this salon is a good distance from my home it's worth the drive! The salon is beautiful and trendy featuring a waiting area with comfortable couches, a big screen TV as well as wifi for customer use and updated work stations. The customer service is awesome, but most importantly they do excellent nails! read more

I just recently started coming to this nail salon after having a bad experience at several other salons. I have been here 5 or 6 times. The owner Tommy is a very nice guy, he has done my nails 3 times and I have been very satisfied. I have heard him joke with other patrons but it's obvious they have a long standing relationship. So where I might deem somethings inappropriate the patron didn't seem bothered by it. Overall this salon has a great atmosphere and nice decor I would recommend it to friends. read more

Beautiful and trendy?? Not sure what you think is beautiful and trendy but its not this salon. This place is the a dump. There was no soap or paper towels in the bathroom, the back room was absolutely disgusting, overflowing laundry baskets of towels, and just over all dirty and stinks like acetone. The pedicure carts aren't kept clean and I never saw the girl clean the tub after she did my feet. And, they have a poor selection of polish. read more

Ever since the ownership changed, the nail salon has improved tremendously. the salon is clean, the polish choice is great, they equipment and spa are all new and trendy. They tried to take their own tip out of my moms money, laughed while getting the change, talked about me in Chinese when I had one hand under the dryer and the other I used to call my mom to pay them. Usually she gives them a tip but this time she didn't and I understand why. I won't be going there unless that's my last option although they do good nails, I'd like for the employees to be respectful and today they showed none at all. Also, a couple of my nails are uneven, so if you do go there, I'd advise you not to go to the lady who asks what you need done aka the owner of the shop. She's very nosey too and will ask you lots of questions. She'd asked me about my sisters job and the other nail salons I'd been to when that shouldn't be her concern since she's doing them now. I went on Saturday for a Mani/Pedi day with my mother. My mom is diabetic and I mentioned it to the owner. She was very gentle with her and my mom was happy with the service. On the other hand I was quite a bit disappointed. I waited over an hour in the waiting area (which was fine since it was really busy) after that I was told to seat on the Pedicure chair and my feet were soaking for an hour before someone was able to come take of me. The young lady that did my pedicure did a great job on that. She was also the one that did my gel manicure and then I decided to get a gel pedicure as well. When she was doing my manicure she did not push back the cuticles so when she applied the gel it was on my skin so later that night after I showered one of my nails was lifting and getting caught on my clothing. i figured it would be okay, by Tuesday all my nails were getting caught in my hair, clothing and just about everything I touched. I called and the owner told me to come in that she will take me right away and she would fix it. I waited an hour before she was able to get to me... I expressed my concerns about my other hand having the same issue and she brushed it off and said it should be okay. She then proceeded to soak my nail on the left hand only to get them fixed. She did a very sloppy job, she did not cover my whole nail with the color or even the gel. At this point I was so aggravated that I just let her finish her sloppy job and went home.
