Such an iconic stage. So many bands. I've easily have seen over 100 bands here. My first time there was in the 80's and I saw Impaler. It was a beautiful way to lose my virginity to this venue. Metal with actual raw pieces of meat and fake blood. My teenage self was on the road to having ringing in my later years. Biggest name for me? Jane's Addiction before they moved to the Main Room and that Lala Palooza thing. Hell, the pretenders played there in 2023 as a warmup place to kick off their big tour and to get close to fans. How kick ass is that? The place holds 250 people. 250! Think about that. Nirvana also played that room before they blew up. The last amazing show I saw there was Melissa Carper in the late summer of 2024. Three piece band. A fiddle player, Melissa on a standup base and a dude strumming on a hollow body. It was one of those shows where the audience was there for the music and there was no chit chat. The music was beautiful and I was rocking ear plugs, even though they weren't really needed for that show. It was f'n beautiful. I can't believe I'm only associated with two photos (at the writing of this review) and I will be correcting that. Cross over between the Main Room is now kind of a pain in the ass as people typically don't do it and staff are a little in the muck but it is what it is. A small intimate and welcoming venue with great acts for under $20! The Usual Things & The Kickback. What's so special about this venue? This place has been around since 1970 and have hosted and launched many name acts. Just take a look at he wall and I'm sure you'll recognize at least one artist. How about PRINCE? Yeah, he's the only one with a gold star. It's not the cleanest nor fanciest, but it's a great place to have a good night out. They have a fully stocked bar, but their bathroom is eh. You can't fit a ton of people in there, but it made for a great experience being with folks who just wanted to hear some great music. Legendary. I've known about 7th for a while now being an underground hip hop head and being able to take in a local show was a surprise during my long weekend visit from Chicago. Naturally in high school I became a huge rhymesayers fan and have kept up with the MN scene and this place lived up to what I knew. I love small intimate venues and since there was good sound it made the experience that much more memorable. Only paid $10 for a local show. From what I saw there was one bar, small too, but never had too much trouble getting a drink. Seating limited to some bar stools and a back wall but I never go to these shows thinking I'll get a seat but I managed to snag a stool. The crowd was dope. You had the urbanites but there were random old ppl and it was diverse. It's famed that first avenue is the landmark but this small 250 capacity room is the road to glory. read more

If I could rate it at zero... I am a tourist that arrived Monday November 7th at 10pm. So deliberately arriving at what should be a dead time with little or no excitement. I just wanted to see the place. I was sober, not at all loud, middle-aged and standing at a rather pedestrian 6 foot 250 I'm hardly an intimidating sight. I walk into a silent, dingy, small club with dimly lit houselights and a band disassembling equipment. My intent was to just look. Not one thing more. A tall skinny kid with light lavender hair asks me my business. My "intimidating" response? "I'm not staying, I'm just looking around." He puts his hand on me and tells me I can't be there. I leave. I didn't raise my voice, I didn't curse, I didn't gesture. I just left. Not one thing more. After I take a couple of pictures of FA (it was closed) from the outside, and the mural, a woman with dark skin (whom I presume was stalking) comes out of 7 Street and starts barking at me. At this point I have had enough. Without raising my voice, I start walking to my vehicle and I tell her to F right off. She started screaming at this point and does the millennial version of "I'm telling my Mommy!" by whipping out her iPhone and pointing it at me as I am driving away. Prince made that place legendary, but then abandoned it. I think I see why now. If FA and 7th Street are more or less separate entities then I guess I can't hold FA directly responsible for staff behavior, but if they are one entity do the math. They deserve scorn and not much more. I went to Paisley Park (security just a teeny bit tighter than what's called for at the "mammoth" 7th Street Entry) and the security staff was nothing but courteous towards myself and my family. Same with Bunker's. Bunker's bouncer was also courteous and helpful when it came to answering questions. It was very disappointing, and when I return to Minne, I won't be patronizing First Avenue. read more

I haven't reviewed The Entry already? What the... I've seen good and bad shows here---local and national musicians---and that's what's so great about this venue. It's a platform for artists that might just be making it big the next time they tour through... or maybe your next door neighbor's sister is playing violin in a sorta awesome bluegrass band. It's a grab bag of unique bookings. I have to agree with Alexandra H about the bathroom situation and how amazingly improved it is now that you can sneak over to The Depot for the number ones and twos. read more

I love the 7th St. Entry! I have so many great stories about this place! 1. I have got the chance to play here a couple of times and it's so awesome playing in such a legendary place where the sweat of the Replacements is still felt on the stage as well as the thousands of other bands who have played here! 2. I saw Of Montreal here in 2004, and got to see Kevin Barnes naked in the downstairs green room, wanted to say good bye to him.. OOPs caught him changing! 3. When I was 19 I had a fake ID and I tried to get into a show here, and they took away my fake ID and threatened to call the cops on me when I kept saying, "give me back my ID" oops! 4. When I was in High School, I once told my parents I was driving to Sioux Falls SD, from my home town in NorthWest Iowa and I really drove to Minneapolis to see Creeper Lagoon and Archers of Loaf at 7st. for an early all ages show, It was amazing and I still got home before curfew! This venue is small and intimate, yet has one of the best sound systems in the city, and it's legendary! I love this place with all my heart even though they took away my fake ID when I was 19! read more

As long as I've been coming to First Ave I've only been to the entry a handful of times. All of those times were really good experiences. This last show I saw Jain. She is a super dancy one woman show! I left there so sweaty and smiling so wide. My only down side with the entry is that with the space being so small, when it gets crowded it's hard to get anywhere else (bathroom or bar). read more

Yup, this falls squarely in the "I haven't reviewed this before?" category. The Entry is the lesser-known little cousin to the legendary First Ave. but it is for sure equally worth knowing. As someone who moved here from another market, let me give a little newbie tutorial. The Entry is a separate venue that's connected somehow to First Ave. It generally hosts smaller or lesser-known acts, but keeping an eye on the schedule is totally worth it because every now and then, there's an act that kind of blows your mind. Unlike First Ave, which is like attending a dance party in a phone booth with 1000 of your closest friends, the Entry is much more chill and is a much smaller, more intimate space. If there's someone you really like playing there, you will be close enough to spit on their shoes. Service is fine, and I also enjoy that there's kind of a back ledge where we old folks can sit to enjoy the show. To get into the Entry there's a little door down the side of the First Ave building. It's really easy to mistake it for like a staff entry, but check the awning above the door and you'll get to the right place. Totally worth seeing a show or three here if there's something that tickles your fancy, and kind of a nice departure from its big cousin sometimes. read more

Now that The Depot Tavern is next door, waiting in line for the single-stall bathroom or a drink at the bar is no longer an issue! (Not that there is ever really an issue because if you're at the Entry you're at a concert which is pretty much a religious experience and therefore negates your ability to complain in the first place. Right? Right.) I recently attended the Foster the People show (shout out to Arazue who found me in that sold-out show) and the Cults show. Each had a different vibe and drew a different crowd, but the intimate setting was never compromised. I heart the Entry and its reasonable ticket prices for up-and-coming bands. read more

Came here when I first moved to the city to see my boyfriends friends play. This place is totally one of the great dirty rock clubs and I'll always be a dirty rock girl. Bathroom was pretty beat to hell but when you drink, piss and repeat that's going to happen. Other little things: Short people (like myself), you have to get creative with how you're gonna view the stage during a show, but you'll find a way. They serve nothing but things that'll leave you inebriated for the night, so get your munchies on beforehand. That being said 7th st. Entry I'm sending good vibes your way. read more

7th St. Entry is definitely my favorite music venue. I love the fact that it is smaller in size; it allows for a more up-close and personal music experience. Granted most of the acts that run through here are not arena filling artists - yet, but still. It is in a great location, and I love stopping for a bite to eat at The Depot Tavern - which has a door connected right to 7th St. Entry. Actually, the last time I stopped at The Depot before a show at 7th St. the band we were going to see was also eating there. We were seated right next to them! It was a great experience :) Back to 7th St. though - great location, great bar, crowded...but that is to be expected. If they served coffee I would move in. read more

When I was 16, I had a fake ID. My fake ID had one purpose. It wasn't to buy or drink alcohol....it was to see live music in venues like The Entry. Seriously. I have been going to shows here for the past 20 years now...and I have seen some phenomenal musicians perform in this space. I have also seen some not-so-good shows here too - but that's the risk you take when coming here... They have made so many changes in the past few years (they now have tap beers, the unisex loo is for men now - women have a newer (and much cleaner) one, and it's cleaner than I have ever seen it. However, one thing remains....this place kicks ass! I LOVE THE 7th STREET ENTRY!!! It is such a great place to catch a show...they draw in local bands as well as touring bands....and the cover charge is always reasonable! The people who work here are awesome, they live & breathe live music...and for that, love them dearly... read more

I like this venue because of the relaxed atmosphere as opposed to the main stage. However, the curtain that they use to separate the two venues is not sound proof. Imagine sitting through the Meiko concert and listening to 80's music going on behind you. Very distracting, as I like both! I finally went to my first show (Foster the People) at the Entry and man I had one hell of a time. To start off, I loooved the size of the Entry. Yes, it is quite small, but it's a much more intimate setting for a show and the lower stage makes me feel like I can cozy up with the band. I honestly have no complaints about the Entry. Okay maybe one complaint. The $3 per coat check was a little steep. We live in MN where we wear coats 75% of the year, you'd think they could lower the price a bit. But whatever, it beats carrying my parka around. And yes, the bathrooms were slightly grimy, but what else would you expect? The bathrooms in the Depot Tavern are just ten steps away and you are welcome to use those. (SIDE NOTE: I high-fived the drummer of Group Love in front of the Depot's bathroom.) They also have $3 tall boy PBRs (nom nom nom) which was a delicious treat to accompany the musical delight my ears were enjoying. read more

I have an alcohol restriction on my license. The restriction states that I cannot have an alcohol level about .02 and I must have an IID in my car. Because of this, they will not let me drink in the venue. That's fine! I understand the liability. The door man then asks me if I've had ANY alcohol already today. I haven't (and I don't drink that much anymore anyways). He almost doesn't let me in because he thinks I'm lying, but I'm being nice so he begrudgingly lets me in as long as he puts big X's on my hands in marker. I kindly asked if he could make the marker not so thick on my hands because it's really hard to wash off later. He proceeds to make the marks even thicker and larger. Okay cool.... I was trying to be polite and ask nicely but apparently the doorman is just an ass. Later on I want to get a wrist band in order to go outside and smoke before the next band goes on. The door man refuses to let me leave and come back inside (presumably because he thinks I'm going to drink). I remind him that I'm driving with an IID and I can't even drive home if I drink, so obviously I'm not going to do that. (It's on my license and if I couldn't drive my own car, I would have to Uber or have a ride so there's no way I can drink and drive anyways) That doesn't matter to him, and if I leave I can't come back in. I watched 30 minutes more of music and left for the night because I simply didn't feel like being treated like a piece of crap. I understand the liability factor, but there's no reason to be so rude about it. The guy seemed like he really enjoyed this little bit of power he had. I guess it went straight to his head. Just a heads up for all of you that are going through a DUI restriction. You won't be able to drink (which is a bummer), but you will also be treated like complete garbage on top of it. I love when old people review music venues. Most of them like to complain about little things and things that if they did a little investigating (walking four feet further) would discover are not what they thought* I've spent many nights at this club and have never been disappointed. 3 dollar PBRs. Yes it's PBR but still a beer, and if you paid the cross over fee from 1st Ave that looks even better. I've seen some very good shows here. Bands from many different genres. But, seriously! Not a place you want to spend an inordinate amount of time in. Too small and only the most primitive of seating. It's worth it if the band is good, otherwise not so much. Yeah I know standing at a show isn't a rare thing, but any more than a couple dozen people and it gets real dank. read more

Consider 7th Street Entry the smaller, dirtier, darker brother to First Avenue. You can expect to pay anywhere from 7 to 15 dollars to attend most shows in this venue, and a lot of new artists get their local start here, or play here for the first time if from out of town. There is only one bathroom shared between the sexes, the bar is well stocked, and the bar staff have always been friendly. The atmosphere is very sullen, slightly dirty, and seemingly full of rock history. Some great bands have played in this venue, and for the rock astute to stand watching a new band while thinking that there are bands (U2) that are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that have played here is pretty special. The venue is not the prettiest, but it is one of the most intimate stages you will find in Minneapolis. Seating is minimal, and you should wear good shoes if you are going to see more than two bands in one night...the floors are very, very hard to stand on for long periods. If the show sells out, you will get warm...and maybe feel a tad claustrophobic. If the band is good, you will forget all about it. read more

A first experience at the Entry is something between an orgasm and a giddy schoolgirl squeal. In fact, the Entry is such a sweaty religious experience that a girl could get pregnant or immaculately conceive just by being present. My first real experience into the Minneapolis music scene was Arcwelder in the entry. I was hooked...badly! I saw NOFX, then White Zombie and on and on and on. The greatest part was getting comps to some crappy main-room show and spending another two bucks or going for free over to the Entry. There's something to be said for a packed-in group of music fans in a grimy, all black pit of acoustic heaven...having a religious experience called the Entry. Some people have church...and some people have shows...and the Entry has always had one Helluva (no pun intended) choir. I was here for 1 night from Los Angeles, CA. I waited in line and showed my ID. When I got in to pay, they said I couldn't get in. I asked what was the point of me waiting in line to show ID. They said sorry. I'm a huge Prince fan and was hoping to see the inside of where he played. The rude service after such a long cross country travel was a huge disappointment. I still look forward to visiting Paisley Park tomorrow. My first visit to Minnnesota and a big slap in the face. Traveled so far for such a huge let down. Went to see Freddie Gibbs and was kicked out BEFORE he even came on because I was accused of "complaints" about my dancing. Not sure what I did wrong. I had maybe 4 drinks and was having a good time dancing to the opening acts and the rest of the crowd was pretty lax for a hip hop show, perhaps I unintentionally brushed into a few people. NO warning at all I was forcefully dragged out and had my wrist band torn off by bouncers. Again I saw no reason for this and they would not let me back in after multiple appeals and no refund of my money. I am from upstate New York and in the east I have never experienced such a disappointing and shockingly shitty experience at a show. The last hip hop show I attended was in Burlington VT and was off the hook with several MOSH pits. This show at 7th street entry was hands down the lamest audience and harshest bouncers ever. Not a fan of this venue. It's more small than intimate, with low ceilings, a small stage, and poor sound. I love the first ave main room but they need to shutter this place, or maybe renovate while taking some space from the Depot next door.
