I had a really great time at 8-Bit Bites. I was served by a guy named Will who was so enthusiastic, and I'm not sure if he was wearing a costume. This was my first time at the place, but he perfectly embodied the retro gaming concept of the restaurant. He was so kind. I've seen posters throughout my neighborhood about their expansion in Brooklyn, but I went to the one on 2nd Ave, close to NYU's journalism campus and between the theater school. I really enjoyed that you could play a game while waiting for your food, which didn't take long to come out. It's a relatively small space, so I'd recommend checking which controllers work because some don't. Once you find a good table with a working controller, it's great. Each table has a TV monitor and an emulation system right in front of you. It's not exactly like a Barcade, but you can enjoy a burger, wipe your fingers, and play a game, giving it a cozy vibe. The food was plentiful and not greasy at all, with nice portions for around $15. If you like playing old-school 16-bit games, you'll love this spot. 8-Bit Bites was an enjoyable experience, but it doesn't measure up to other smashburgers in the area. We tried both the Smashburger and the Mini Boss because the Mini Boss had more of the fixings of a traditional smashburger. The Mini Boss had the smashed patty, cheese, sauce, pickles, and grilled onions, which is typical to a smashburger, but on a sesame bun. The Smashburger had lettuce, onions, pickles, tomato, and a different sauce on a potato bun. The burgers were fine but just don't measure up to 7th Street (our gold standard smashburger). However, 8-Bit really shines on the sides. They have a wide variety of loaded fries and tots. We had the cheese tots and regular fries. The cheese tots were perfectly crispy with lots of nacho cheese on top. They were the stand out of the meal. The fries were a really interesting shape. They were definitely made from potatoes and were cooked very well to be crisp on the outside and soft inside. They also have many varieties of milkshake, and the cookie cream shake one did not disappoint. We are excited to go back to try some loaded fries, but in the quest for the best smashburger in New York, 8-Bit is unfortunately not it. read more

It's been awhile since I've visited 8 bit bites. Went to a Manhattan location this time and this one is a bit on the small side but still has that awesome nostalgic vibe, great service from the guy that was at work. There was only one person there at the time I showed up so service was clearly no issue and even late 80's and 90's music playing in the background that really brought the aesthetic of this place home. Has my Smashburger regular which always hits and this spot was no different with 2 additions from their Summer menu. A Chicken and Bacon ranch wrap which was a delight though as good as all the food was, the MVP was the Orange Dreamsicle shake which I honestly hope they don't remove it despite it being a "limited time" item. Yeah my last experience with one of their shakes was mixed because the last one I had was iffy because of the cereal texture overpowering the shake, but this one was done RIGHT! There is the grainy cereal texture but it didn't overtake the shake as a whole so I was able to savor the whole shake in its thick, orangey goodness, it truly was a dream. Next time I'm thinking of coming around a little later, even if it means missing out on my usual lunch special just to hang around the place with more people in it. Felt a tad bit lonely eating my food by myself, though the dude who was working at the time, we engaged in a bit of small talk as he was playing TMNT IV: Turtles in Time on the Emustation near me when he was done taking orders, so I appreciate his brief company. read more

Now I needed to try this Flying Dutchman burger and I'm glad they offered it. I've been wanting to go and see how this place operates especially since I'm a gamer myself. Now the customer service is great you definitely know the person helping you is not just there for the money but he loves games too. It's a gamers place which I love. The food is way better than it needs to be, including great fries, tots, chicken fingers and burgers. This is such a fun place! Randomly stumbled upon this restaurant while walking with a friend. What immediately got my attention was the open concept of the restaurant where you can see everything happening inside. I walked in and thought it was so cool with the different old school games you could play as well as the movies playing in the background. My friend and I ordered the hot chicken sandwich which was delicious. We were warned that it was hot and I wish we had listened due to it being a pretty hot sandwich for someone who eats hot food. While eating, we definitely took the time to play street fighter as well as the Simpsons. The menu is pretty extensive with things such as the Nashville hot chicken, smash burgers, chicken tenders, cereals, milkshakes and various other items. It's a fun place for a date or even with kids. We came here due to rave reviews from a family member. Initially I was slightly taken aback by the ambiance. It was a bit greasy, very loud and busy. It was tough to find a table. We waited it out for a table to wrap up. In the meantime we ordered our food online. Once we got the table, we used some alcohol wipes to wipe down the greasy controllers and played a few rounds of street fighter while we waited for the food. The food itself was very good. There were four of us and we got a smash burger each and one order of loaded fries for the table. We all really liked the food. One single smash burger is likely not enough to fill a person up so I recommend either a double or some loaded fries on the side. read more

Can't said I love the burger but it's not the worst. Meat was a bit unseasoned. That being said it's still a solid restaurant and I appreciate that they are open very late. Also the restaurant interior is very cool, with some games to play and a very "gamer" aesthetic that's a little bit corny but it's fun. The fries were amazing and better than the burger so I'd recommend getting those. Service was kind of slow but we went late at night so that's excusable. You can get a better burger in NYC very easily, but late at night and you want to play some games while waiting for one this isn't bad! read more

I attended a child's party here and it was nice, love that they have a lot of retro games and theme items. It's a small place but the kids still had fun. The prices didn't match the menu though but it's whatever. We had burgers fries and chicken tenders the Dr Browns cherry flavor is definitely a must have the milk shakes where ok you can definitely taste the milk not so much the topping flavors. We had the fruit pebbles (rainbow road) & cookies and cream one (cookie land) again both the milk was very tastable not so much the toppings. We also order to go a Nashville chicken fries with chicken tenders. I do not recommend you take that specific order to go they dumped the coleslaw right on top of the fries and chicken which made the fries very soggy. The food was out pretty quick if you wanna play they have the emulators hooked on to the tv scan the QR code to show u how to use it took a bit to get use it playing since your using a ps2 style remote and the controllers for Nintendo or genesis are different lol but definitely worth a try. It's a bit expensive for the food quality your getting food wise nothing special or wow factor I think your paying more to just use the gaming systems. Like my review on the Chelsea location of 8 Bits Bites, its description and my opinion has not changed. The food is excellent, milkshakes are very yummy, the staff are both very friendly and welcoming, and you can play video games during and after you eat. The setting is great for friends, gamers, and people who want to have a great time exploring the city and have a somewhat local arcade experience. My video game recommendation? The food is also great the chicken is nicely cooked since it's very tender, the burgers are grilled to perfection and the service is great too very professional and courteous. It's a small little place to definitely hang out and play all the old games. I'd say my boyfriend and I were in there for a couple hours going through the massive list of games they have to offer. Although i recognize this place more known for the games they offer rather than the food.
