I have finally found a place in the area with a solid Tri tip sandwich. Everywhere else I've tried, Tri tip is overcooked and dry. I will be visiting regularly. We visited during opening weekend and were very impressed with the overall experience. Prices were great, food was fresh, and service was lovely. The meat was very tender and full of flavor but not over flavored or drenched in sauce like some other places. The restaurant was clean, spacious, and inviting. I have been here 4-5 times since my original unsuccessful attempt to try it when it first opened. They brew their own beers and as probably the biggest beer snob in the Santa Maria area, I am happy to say that all 3 beers I have tried were very good - not just good. In fact they are better than several other breweries in the area. The tri tip is juicy and flavorful. The ribs are unfortunately hit or miss. One visit they were amazing. The last time I had them a few weeks ago they were like 75% fat. No bueno. Some fat especially on ribs is ok. But nobody wants to eat gobs of fat. So that half rack was a total waste of money. I make ribs at home a lot and trim the excess fat. I was actually really shocked and disappointed to be served such a fatty rack. I noticed there was a new beer that I wanted to try but it was before noon and I had a work event to get to so figured I would come back again soon to try it. On a Thursday evening a couple weeks later around 5 I was driving nearby on the 101 and asked Siri if this place was open. Siri said yes and that they would be open for another 2+ hours. So I headed there to try the new beer. Only to see an empty parking lot and a "closed" sign on the door when I arrived. The good is that the Tri Tip tasted great the bad is that it had a thick strip of gristle in it that took the pleasure out of eating it. The chili beans tasted great but they used the gristle that they trimmed off of the Tri Tip for the meat in the beans so most of the meat in the chili beans was not edible. And the salad was also a disappointment lettuce blend with carrot strips and two choices of dressing ranch or thousand island. For under $20 Tri Tip plate it was good for 3 stars. Very clean restaurant lots of options of where to sit although the menu was limited they had no chicken ready and bbq in the slow cooker is only available Saturday so I was bummed I could not try the ribs. The fries were tasty and crispy the macaroni salad and potato salad could have used more seasoning or salt but might be my preference. My husband ordered tri tip the sandwich was full of thick cut tri tip the bread was good too. The customer service was excellent the workers were friendly and checked in on us. The only reason I'm giving a 4 is because not all items were available and they only have canned soda and bottled water so you have to pay for water. read more

I was in town and wanted some BBQ. I took my three boys to 805 for an early dinner at 5pm on SUNDAY 6/14. They don't close until 8. I was very disappointed to be told they were OUT OF ALL BBQ! Zero BBQ at the barbeque restaurant! NOTHING CONFUSING, out of BBQ. They were serving burger menu only. We had made the drive and needed to eat so we ate the burger menu. Disappointment. You would expect a BBQ restaurant, especially one that runs out of BBQ, to have fresh, delicious burgers...they did not. It was a previously frozen, flat, terrible processed patty. Overall disappointing. If you sometimes run out of BBQ as does happen sometimes although it should be RARE. You should at least serve quality burgers. I would have given only two stars, because the lady that took our order and brought it to us was very kind, but then the owner replied to the first review and tried to discount it. You grab a menu, decide what you want and order at the counter. No soda fountain, just can drinks, looks like they applied for beer and wine license. 4:15 on a Thursday. They only serve the smoked meats on Saturday and were out of tri tip and 1/2 chicken. Choices today boiled down to burgers and sides. Under "Vinnys & more" the gal stated they don't come with fries but mine did. Ordered was loaded fries 18 and fried chicken sandwich 14. The sandwich was nothing to write home about. The loaded fries were "ok". My opinion, not worth 18. Apparently they opened last sat, maybe things will get better. Some people came in while I was here and stated since they didn't have any smoked bbq, they wouldn't last long and left. Also their napkins and forks are whimpy. I would think they would need to knock your socks off being they are right across from our best bbq place. The gal working(owner i think) was very nice. Stopped in for the first time and split the outlaw burger with my sister and had the deep fried burrito (a fav and hard to find...IYKYK) it was delicious!
