Bills take out is always great for lunch! On a occasion ive gotten a hair in my fries :( And my patty was not cooked all the way. Its very rare my patty is pink most of the time they get it right try them out for lunch as it gets busy. Miss their asada burritos and their salsa from a few years back before it got remodeled. The pastrami on roll was delicious nice and thin not too fatty and bread was spongy Corn dog was as expected as well I forgot to take a photo of the grilled cheese but that was good as well i do wish they grilled it a bit more to fully melt the cheese and get a bit more of a toast on the bread but other than that food was delicious and the pastrami was supper filling. Service here is wonderful, the food is made to order quickly, and the prices are extremely fair. I love that they are open early in case you want a hearty breakfast. They offer a full menu. While I may not be too old, this place brings back memories. Bills take out after a minimum day at El Camino Jr High or Sunday menudo. I will say that the food does taste slightly different from what I remembered it, slightly downgrade. Overall love this place and I hope they return to the classic taste. read more

I've been passing by Bills Take Out on Broadway for a while and wanted to give it a try for lunch. I went at 11:55 on a Tuesday and there was a small line. It's an classic oldies looking joint with walk up window ordering and seating outside. They do have a wide range of items on their menu too. The girl at the window was nice and the wait for my food was about 8-12 minutes with several people in front of me. I got the #6 Billy Burger Combo with a Cherry Pepsi(Coke)? and a deep fried burrito. Billy Burger and fries - 4 Star - This burger is small, it came with onions and a thousand island type sauce. I took off the pickles. Even for the size it was a solid burger seasoned and cooked well overall. The fries are large, thick cut and they are generous with the fry portions . Fried Burrito - 5 Star - This hit the spot for me. It reminds me of the frozen Tinas Red Hot you get from the store but about 10x better, a bit bigger, and fried crispy. Be sure to ask for the Del Sol(?) hot sauce in the yellow packet since they don't have it out front. I spent $13.00 which I thought was a good deal for the amount of food. read more

What can I say... Bill's Take Out is such a hidden gem. I refer all of my friends to this spot who might be travel through SM on their way up north or south. Why stop at In n Out when you can grab Bills? Their exterior seems untouched and straight from the 1950's. I find their vintage details quite romantic. It really makes for a classic burger joint experience. I can just imagine young couples pulling up late afternoon for a quick bite. Staff is always direct and friendly. No fluff or funny business here! It's a true "in & out" experience. The food is great! Always consistent and fresh. I always get their billy burger w/ fries and a deep fried burrito. Are open Sundays. Gave Menudo a try. For the cost should come in bowl not soda cup. Provided only onions & lemon as garnish. Menudo seasoning is usually proved but at at Bill's. Customer service questionable seemed plastic. If I try Menudo again would go to a restaurant. Had burger way back which was fantastic. Nest time I will try a taco or burger when in the neighborhood. If I could give half stars, I would give this place 3.5 stars. This place has good, extremely large shakes. I have only gone here for the milkshakes, but my dad got their burger and said it was good. This is one of the few places that carry malt milkshakes (it's so hard to find places that serve malt milkshakes nowadays I feel like). The shake is huge. It is tall (maybe the length of your forearm) and about as thick as both your hands making a circle with the thumb and middle finger. The milkshake is good and delicious. It is not super thick where it is a lung workout to suck up the milkshake. The price of the milkshake is only $5 for the large, which is pretty cheap and affordable, which I like. This place gets dinged because of Covid safety. The employees wear masks, but social distancing isn't exactly enforced. Masks are not exactly enforced as well. During my last experience here, I witnessed one of the cooks pouring water over their hand over the hamburger, which is quite disgusting when you think about it. I also witnessed two people going to order, and one of them was not wearing a mask while ordering, which unfortunately my milkshakes were in the waiting to be handed to me, so it was within breathing distance of those customers. This I did not like. Also, this place closes at 6PM, which is early if you ask me. Ordered the 4 Billy Burgers with cheese for $5.98+tax special ($1.79 if buy one at a time). I have an attraction to things from the past. I find it distressing how corporations keep tearing down the old buildings and replacing them with shiny new fast food joints. It would be nice if things lasted and I could show my child the places I ate at when I was a child. Bill's looks like one of those places that has survived from the old days. I knew I had to eat at Bill's seeing the faded old neon sign and the 1970's architecture. Built in 1974 Bill's has been run by 2 generations of Barragan's. Santa Maria is quite windy and having a wind break on 2 sides is really nice. Half pound burger had thin double beef patties like In N Out but bigger. Loved the big beef flavor and the bacon gave it an extra flavor. In N Out was my fav fast food burger but I like this one better with the bacon powered flavor boost. French fries were hot crunchy and had lots of delicious potato flavor. Cherry shake was very thick just the way I like it. Not a big fan of the cherry flavor which tasted just like a cherry Icee. I was hoping for a cherry ice cream flavor like the black cherry ice cream at Thrifty's. I enjoyed my trip back in time eating an old fashioned burger and fries. Such a nostalgic lil burger stand! Everybody who is anybody In Santa Maria knows that this is the place to get a quick bite to eat when looking for a greasy spoon. Billy burgers with cheese and onion are the best, love the deep fried burritos, and the fries ordered well done dipped in their special sauce is a salty treat. Don't forget about menudo on the weekend. It sure is good but don't sleep in too late because they run out pretty fast! If you have a sweet tooth get their cone or a shake!
