Good food and lovely service. They even have a tiny shop/gift shop onsite offering their own brand of jams and such. The rack of ribs was to die for. The Santa Maria tritip sandwich wasn't bad either. Great stop on our RV trip up the coast of California.

Right off the 101 It's a staple And the food is consistently good I tried their tri tip with cheese enchilada, with rice and beans. Ok. So good! Great service. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. No issues. Clean bathroom too This experience makes me want to go back more often

We loved our breakfast here last Sunday! We sat at the counter and watched the kitchen turn out the great big plates of yummy diner food. Beer and mimosas available (darn, they were out of the sparkly for mimosas that morning). We had the chicken fried steak with gravy, potatoes, and biscuit, and the Cobb salad for health. Both were huge. That gravy is the stuff southern dreams are made of. A fine quality steak for the chicken-fried treatment! Salad: fresh. Really nice, ripe avocado. Great blue cheese crumbles. Super friendly service, despite the busy Sunday afternoon. Lots of fun photos to see on the walls. Solid diner coffee. Will return!

The food was great but the vibes were even better. Overall one of the most welcoming diners I have been to. They were able to accommodate any request I made and always made sure to do it with a smile. Definitely worth a stop if traveling up the 101.

A traditional restaurant with s vast menu for any desired taste. The inside is welcoming and decorated with the history of Santa Maria Valley. The Club sandwich I ordered was an ideal example of what a Club sandwich should be. Toasted bread created the perfect layers of turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Along with the sandwich were freshly fried fries, that really hit the spot. I also had a cup of their Friday only Clam Chowder that hit on all notes. The menu is extensive, the service is diner-worthy, and you will not be disappointed stopping in and experiencing Pappy's wares.

We were leaving the beach to head back home and decided to stop and eat at this gem. Party of 6, seated right away. It was semi busy, a little loud but not bad. I ordered the nachos and added chicken, they were delicious. The ranchera sauce they put on them really boosted the flavor. They had a huge variety on their menu. I would definitely go back, but would want to try something else to see what else is good. Our waitress was very friendly.

Food: 4. Came by on a Thursday around noon. Place was moderately busy. Had to wait a bit before I was seated. Beverage order was quick but food order was a bit slow. I ordered Pappy's Meatloaf Dinner. I asked if I could swap the "steamed fresh vegetable" with the pinquito beans. Food came out timely and at the right temperature. I chose a salad instead of soup. Salad and salad bowl were nicely chilled. I like my salad cold. Simple salad of iceberg, green leaf, and croutons but I enjoyed it. Meatloaf was good and it was a nice size portion. Mashed potatoes had potato skins and it was good. Beans were flavorful. Garlic bread was nicely toasted and buttered. The next time I visit, I will try a different dish than meatloaf as it was just good (3.5). Service was mostly good. Ambiance is diner-ish and comfortable. Service: 3.75 Ambiance: 3.75 Value: 3.5

Pappy Sized Breakfast with my requested "extra crispy" hashbrowns.

The Pappy Sized breakfast! Scrumptious food and generous portion sizes and they don't skimp. I asked for "extra crispy" hash browns and they accommodated. I especially recommend the Pappy Sized Breakfast. The Santa Maria cowboy style ambiance is quite unique, fun and sets this diner apart from the rest!

After a scenic drive through the beautiful backcountry roads of the…read moreSanta Ynez Valley, my travel partner and I found ourselves in Los Alamos, searching for a sweet treat. With not much open around us, we turned to Google for help and stumbled upon Charlie's Restaurant. What a fantastic surprise! My friend ordered a chocolate pineapple milkshake--a creative blend not listed on the menu. She thought it would be a delightful combination, and she was absolutely right. Meanwhile, I went for the Nachos Supreme, and let me tell you, they are hands down the best nachos I've ever had at 70 years old! The chips were perfectly crisp, topped with homemade refried beans, creamy sour cream, cheese, fresh guacamole, and chopped tomatoes. Each bite was a flavor explosion! The restaurant itself isn't flashy; in fact, it took us a moment to spot the sign, which was partly hidden by a hedge. But stepping inside was a treat! We chose to sit in the charming garden, where a lovely mural added to the ambiance. The dining room is small and rustic, creating a cozy atmosphere that felt inviting. The service was exceptional, with a friendly young couple attending to us. The young man even took the time to sit with us, asking where we were from and sharing tips about nearby treasures. It's refreshing to experience such genuine, old-fashioned customer service these days. I can't recommend Charlie's enough! Their extensive menu is full of tempting options, and the mouthwatering aromas made it hard to resist trying more. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area--perhaps for those onion rings next time! The bathroom had a sign on the wall with a picture of a toilet saying please seat yourself If you're in Los Alamos, don't miss out on this hidden gem!

For the best burger in town: Norman's or Plenty on Bell. For Mexican food: we don't really have Mexican food besides Charlie's in town unfortunately and it's not good just waste your money yourself and try or go to the restaurants that the town is known for- not just the restaurant that's been along the longest. Look in their kitchen. Filthy!! This place is worn down. Restaurants to check out: Predite bbq has inexpensive smash burgers and tacos!! Great sodas, and wine and beer available in another part of their yard. Bob's well bread has great huevos rancheros. Norman's has Chilequilles from time to time and fancy tacos. In a town known for its cuisine and beverage go somewhere that you will experience the food in incredible settings, don't go to this old shit hole on the end of town. Really try our delicious farm to table food at literally any other restaurant but Charlie's.

A group of us went for dinner and I had the Western Burger and fries. The burger had good flavor with the ingredients tasting very fresh. The conversation was good, so I didn't pay that much attention to what others ordered, but everyone said their dishes tasted good. Our food arrived quickly and I would definitely come back again to try one of the other sandwiches or burgers, if we are in the neighborhood. The only drawback to this restaurant was that they close at 7:30pm daily, a bit early for my dining habits. The location is conveniently located on Grand Avenue, not far from the Hwy 101 off-ramps and on-ramps, and they have a large parking lot that is easy to pull in to.

Lots of bussers running around but seemed like only 1 waitress. From the time we ordered our food it seemed like eternity till we ate. I quickly realized that our food probably sat on the ready counter for a significant length isn't time. I ordered biscuits and gravy with bacon and two eggs over easy. The biscuits were ok at best, Gravy lacked flavor and my eggs were as cold as the weather outside. My GF ordered a sandwich, that did not come with fries. That was discovered once the order arrived. We were told they're playing with the menu. ‍, sounded weird but ok. She also god a side of mozzarella sticks. Those two were cold. Like they took a string cheese and rolled it in breading and heated in the microwave for about 15 seconds. So disappointing. I hope they figure out their staffing issues and lock in the menu. Seems like a decent spot but I'll find another breakfast place. Don't waste your money, plus I heard the tips are automatically added to the bill. I didn't look that closely because there was only 3 of us eating and I'm not used to auto tipping unless you have a large party. If they do auto tipping, my waitress hit well more than deserved because I tipped on my own as well. The table we were sat, was out of little jam packets. Seems like a trivial thing to bring up but details matter. What else are they skipping...? Do they even wipe down a table when it's reset first the next guests? McDonalds is down the street. At least their food is hot!
