Meh. Just ok. Went at 7pm Saturday night. Parking was tough. A few people inside, but a few were in their cars with the buzzer waiting for their orders. I ordered the #2 original. Service was fine. About 10 minutes later and I had my meal! That was reasonable for fresh fried chicken and fries. Portion size very good. Very nice sized tenders. Temp very good; Freshly fried. Meat inside was a little dry and bland. Not much flavor. Breading was a lot of spices powders applied after frying it seems like (??? not sure). Was not crispy. Imagine sticking your tongue out, sprinkling spice powders on it, retracting it, taking a bite of dry chicken tender, and chewing. Bread was fine. Brioche bun I believe. Coleslaw was fine. Sauce on the side was bland. All combined in the sandwich was ok. It was filling. Fries were ok. Some of the spice powder is applied to them. They have flavored waters but they are bland af. The tamarindo one was $6.50. At the time, they did not have bottled water. Inside the space was breezy. They have ceiling fans and portable A/C blowers going. Country music was playing on the sound system and TV. (Morgan Wallen, etc etc). Tables were clean. Well-lit. No bathroom / facilities that I could see. No handwashing. Overall, It did not convince me to go back.

I ordered the #2 Combo for pick up, the service was great. I arrived twenty minutes late and the male behind the register offered and basically insisted he re-do my order so I can have a fresh experience. That was something I did not expect. I didn't think to get his name. I'll be back indefinitely. Thanks Papi's Hot Chicken! PS The ambiance was fitting.

Food was very good, outperformed my expectations. Good quality ingredients. Service was helpful, free cups of water provided. Ambiance is good too, good music playing with a TV showing the songs.

Good food, not super spicy. I enjoyed the loaded fries, the mac and cheese works. The number 2 meal seems to be the best value.

Lighting inside is very dim but still comfortable. It wasn't too crowded at 6pm but would probably be better to make a reservation. Luckily I was able to get seated within 5 mins as a walk in. By 7:30 though both sides of seating areas were full. My server was attentive and food took about 20 mins. Of all the items, I enjoyed the relish tray and baked potato the most. I couldn't quite distinguish what was SM style bbq from the tri tip though and the beans were a little salty for my liking.

It was a wonderful experience. Great service great food very enjoyable. But unfortunately, today's experience was anything but enjoyable first off. I ended up after 10 minutes having to go to the bar to retrieve my beer order. Second, my medium, rare filet mignon 12 ounce came back, medium. The first time we went, we were offered warm bread and butter, which didn't happen this time. After I finished my beer, I set the glass on the edge of the table. The waitress came by and checked on the tables on both sides of us and didn't even look our way so I had to go to the bar and order my own second beer. Because we were assured on time, I didn't wanna complain about the overdone filet mignon so I choked half of it down at the end of the meal. I asked to talk to the manager who was not there, but they brought the cook Manager he said, because I ate most of the steak. They were unable to give us any kind of discount and offered a free desert which we were not interested in. I know they have the capability of doing a matter job just be aware and make sure you're getting what you're there and paying for.

Sunday mornings are meant to be leisurely but this time we were in a rush. We had actually slept in until 7am, normally up by 5am without alarms. The hubs event started at 9am so we made the quick drive for a to go order, calling two blocks from the restaurant after glancing at the menu. We both decided the first item on the menu we would try; Orcut Hash, did sourdough toast and homemade biscuit We had just a couple minutes to sit and order iced tea to go. Before the server could get us our iced teas our food was ready. It's super cute inside...can't wait to come back and enjoy the sit down restaurant. Staff was super friendly and welcoming. Large alcoholic choice of drinks... really wanted that spicy Mary but since we were in a rush stuck with iced tea. The only 1 minute drive back to the gun range in Santa Maria was grueling smelling that gravy... We were both were thrilled at the large portions. It was amazing! I love gravy and could have used a little bit more but honestly I think it was fine for a normal person plus remember we go to go order so I suspect it soaked up a little on the drive. The staff threw in pepper and Tapatio which the hubs loves. I had Yellow Bird Blue Agave Sriracha in my travel trailer and used a little on it. OMG! It was so good! The potatoes had a nice crunch on them. That gravy was amazing. The biscuit was great, had a bite and saved the rest for later. The hubs managed to eat his whole plate and was stuffed! I might have eaten 1/4 of mine saving it for later. We will for sure be back!

WOW. I was in town visiting family today and stopped here for lunch. I grew up in Orcutt, so I've…read moreknown the Swiss for years, but today's meal reminded me exactly why it's such a local institution. The oak grilled open faced rib-eye sandwich was absolutely incredible. I'm not exaggerating when I say it had more flavor than Wolfgang Puck's CUT. The rib-eye was perfectly cooked to the medium temperature I requested, tender enough to bite through without a knife, and seasoned exactly the way Santa Maria style beef should be. So many places are too conservative with the seasoning these days, but they got it just right. Even the bread underneath the steak was perfect. It didn't even need salsa, but of course I tried it both ways. Honestly? I couldn't decide which I liked better because the sandwich was outstanding on its own. We also ordered the linguiça appetizer with garlic bread. The linguiça had that slight char from the grill that gives it so much flavor, and the mustard served alongside it was the perfect pairing. My mom ordered the prime rib sandwich with grilled onions and chose the 50/50 fries and grilled onions. The only minor criticism I have is that it wasn't quite a true 50/50 and could have used a few more grilled onions. Other than that, it was delicious. The pinquito beans have a little kick, so if you're sensitive to spice, keep that in mind. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing. The whole meal took me right back to growing up in the Santa Maria Valley cruising Broadway on Saturday while the entire town smelled like oak fired Santa Maria barbecue. We cook a lot at home, and we're pretty serious about our beef, so eating steak at restaurants is usually disappointing because very few places compare. That's why I was so impressed today. This wasn't just a good sandwich.. it was one of the best rib-eye sandwiches I've ever had. To whoever was running the grill today: outstanding job. You absolutely nailed it. I'll be thinking about that sandwich for a long time.

We each ordered a filet mignon with a side plate. I ordered the chicken noodle soup for starters. It was delicious. I was off to a good start. However, my companions all ordered salads with blue cheese dressing. They each reported the salad was wilted and the dressing was terrible. Then the main course came with our sides, a little pot of salsa and a little pot of beans. The filets were very tender, it not well seasoned. Baked potatoes were fine, but the mixed veggies were tasteless. There may have been some kind of bread, but I don't remember. Service was fine. But waitress really made out. She didn't mention that the tip was already included in the bill. She readily accepted a substantial tip in addition to what was already on the bill. Bad food. Rip off spot!

We had heard great things, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We dined with our two kids, and everyone left happy. My wife and I shared the large ribeye for two, which was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The meal included four courses, and every part of it was excellent. For our appetizer, we ordered the artichoke, and it immediately brought back memories of my mom making artichokes when I was growing up. It was simple, delicious, and a great way to start the meal. Our kids both ordered the steak kids' meal, and we were impressed by the quality. It's not often you find a restaurant that serves a kids' steak meal that is genuinely delicious, but they both loved it and cleaned their plates. The salads were fresh, the sides were great, and dessert was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. What stood out most was the value. Considering the quality of the food and everything that was included, we felt the meal was very reasonably priced. The service was spot on throughout the evening--friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being intrusive. If you're visiting the Central Coast, whether you're staying in Santa Maria or exploring Paso Robles wine country, the Hitching Post is absolutely worth the trip. In fact, aside from the local post office, this restaurant is essentially the town's main attraction--and what a find it is. A quick tip: make reservations well in advance. This place fills up early. We arrived when the bar opened at 4:00 PM for our 4:30 reservation and were glad we planned ahead. The Hitching Post markets itself as serving some of the best barbecue in the world, but I'd describe it more as an exceptional steakhouse. Their meats are cooked over an open wood fire, creating a perfect balance of rich flavor and subtle smokiness that elevates every bite. I ordered the top sirloin, which was outstanding. The meal included a shrimp appetizer, fresh salad, garlic bread, roasted vegetables, and, of course, the perfectly cooked steak. To top it all off, dessert included ice cream and coffee. The restaurant offers an excellent wine selection, popular IPAs, and a full bar. The ambiance feels like stepping back into the 1950s, reflecting the restaurant's long history and charm. Service was impeccable--friendly, attentive, and professional. We even had a great view of the chefs preparing meals over the open fire. Before you leave, take a stroll through the outdoor garden area and check out the beautiful koi pond. It's a nice finishing touch to an already memorable evening. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the value. For a dining experience of this quality, the prices were very reasonable. The Hitching Post delivers outstanding food, excellent service, and a unique atmosphere that makes it well worth the trip. We'll definitely be back--this is the perfect spot for a special date night with my wife.
