I woke up today (second to last day on Maui) and decided I wanted surfing lessons for the first time. Wendy (what a sweetheart on the phone) said morning is better so let me see what I can do and call you right back. Right away called back and said can you make it to Lahina in an hour? Oh yes. She called BENNY! who was not even on the schedule. Wow. He towed my old, out of shape, fat arse back and fourth. Dang am I out of shape. He was great with the encouragement and saying "take a break and make sure your having fun" But bottom line is I got up many times and got to surf. I know he spent over a bit more then the time I had, and if I had the energy he would have spent even longer. Hang loose Benny. Next year I am bringing the kids so get ready. read more

I called to rent paddle boards for my boyfriend and I. We had paddle boarded once before in Mexico and has some trouble. The guy on the phone asked our weight and said the boards are specially made so we should have a much easier time. He came and dropped them off at our timeshare with in the hour, gave us a quick lesson and sent us on our way. He then Picked up the boards the following day same place he dropped them off at . Made it so easy and he was right we did have much more success this time around! Really nice people read more

We highly recommend 808 for all your needs well here in Maui. My daughter and I took a surf lesson, our instructor was Benny. He has a perfect amount of patience for both of us. We've haven't rented a board from 808 yet, but we've bought clothes/a GoPro/coral friendly sun screen/got recommendations for snorkeling. The staff is awesome. We had so much fun snorkeling with schools of turtles thanks to their recommendations. read more

We had a great experience with 808 Board. They had the best prices, delivered a SUP to our hotel, showed us how to use it properly and adjust the paddle depending on the height of the user, then picked it up from our hotel a week later. Last minute idea to go paddle boarding while vacationing in Maui. Contacted 808 to talk with a very friendly and helpful guy. I had some questions about locations and conditions for good paddle boarding, answered them all with excellent customer service. Nice shop, easy to find, new and nice gear. price was $45 for 24 hrs. I was very pleased with 808 Boards. Everyone else is charging $30 an hour. For $25 808 Boards brings the board to your hotel and picks it up 24 hours later. When not surfing I stored the board in the hotel board room and picked it up whenever I wanted during those 24 hours. You don't even have to be present when they drop it off or pick it up as long as the hotel bell desk knows them and puts the board in the room for you. Thank you, 808 Boards! read more

Thought it would be worth writing an addendum to my previous review. I've been extremely pleased for giving 808 my business for 3 years and 4 or 5 Hawaii trips now and they are still doing as good, if not better, of a job at providing us with all our SUP/surf needs. They have retained the same staff as my first board rentals 3 years ago, who actually remembered me on subsequent trips despite only showing up once a year. Their crew is the best on the island and have always proven to be accommodating, professional, and timely. Even if their board rentals are $10-20 higher for the week than other shops it is well worth it, knowing you'll be treated well and get the best equipment. Rented boards for a day after staff at shop recommended a surf location. Turns out the waves were large, towards rocks and very unsafe. We went back to staff who was rude and mumbled about calling the cops! The owner was not helpful and did not give us a partial refund as we requested. Not the way to run a successful business! We will be back to Maui for sure, but will avoid this rambled shack like a skunk carcass that has been out in the sun for 2 days. read more

Often times you judge people and business by more than the product or service they provide. We spent the day at Napili beach and my daughter dropped her cell phone in the water. She was obviously distraught with all of her vacation photos there...we made our way into 808 right there by the beach looking for a store close by to find a bag of rice to try and recover it. When we asked...the owner Dallas stepped right up without hesitation, he went to the back and offered us a bag of rice that was his personally. How many people would do that?? Good people do good things unprompted by need for recognition and I know that's what he did. We didn't buy anything that day ...didn't have to and no one expected it from us. But when I return to Maui I won't go anywhere else besides 808 Boards to rent a board or buy beachwear. Their trust and credibility has been earned ten fold to me... read more

I'd never tried paddle boarding before so I did a two hour rental for $35. Friendly staff and a few quick pointers. I don't know what else you can expect from a rental outfit. A really great guy named Bob offered me a lesson on the beach and I gratefully accepted. It turned out that he works for 808. He got me up and going, and when I offered to pay him afterward he refused and told me just to have a great day. That kind of friendliness and generosity of heart is what has sold me on Maui. The surf was not great on the west side during our visit, but by offering location and equipment advice the warm and professional customer service at 808 helped us make the most of the surfing portion of our trip. Had we rented elsewhere, I am sure the surfing would have been a disappointing aspect of our time on Maui. As it happened, we ended up getting waves (little ones) and had a great time. I've been coming to Maui since 2008 with my family. Since 808 opened in 2010 we've been renting boards from them for the week. The customer service is amazing and on top of always smiling faces they deliver the boards in person. You can't beat it!! Sure there have been days with rough surf but that's life. Nobody can dial up Poseidon and ask him for good waves! I wouldn't give 808 any less than 5 stars, I wish they allowed 10. I rented a paddle board for use on Kaanapali, during my recent vacation. It was easy. I called and they delivered the board right to my hotel. The guy who delivered made sure I understood how to use the board safely. The board was also in really good shape for a rental. I was charged less for a twenty-four hour period than most of the other rental places wanted for just a few hours. When I was done, I called the office and they picked it up. read more

A surf shop with true aloha spirit. Dallas and Scooter are two stand up dudes. I rented a board from them (on a really great deal) and had been pumping Honolua bay when the lease broke (no fault on them) without a board and with the surf to heavy I had to swim to shore in defeat. I returned to the shop dreading letting this cool surf shop I lost one of there boards..but upon explaining what happened they did not charge me to replace the board. They understood that sometimes these things happen. So 5 stars and if I could give 10 I would. They are awesome and I can't thank them enough for the good karma! Yew. read more

We were in Lahaina last week or so and The guy Jeff who worked there was amazing. So cool. We rented a few boards and he told us a great spot to go too called S turns.
