This place is SO cool - a unique little cocktail bar nestled in some sort of building that I have no idea what it is, but we found it, and I was glad. The service was okay, the Hostess was quick to find us a table which was awesome since we were a party of six, so that was super appreciated. We sat down and drink orders were pretty quick but they did take awhile, which shows that they really do make everything from scratch. Their drink menu had some really cool, unique drinks on it and I honestly wanted to try them all. If they had a flight, I would have absolutely not been able to say no. We were super impressed with their bourbon selection, and they actually had pretty good prices too, so we were able to try some great options. My sister and I have recently been intrigued by speakeasy type cocktail bars, so I decided to tryout 815 since Jane was visiting. Located in the heart of the city near other places of businesses with street and lot parking available. No password or anything special needed to gain access to the bar. We avoided the tall flight of stairs by using the elevator which brought us right to the door. We were greeted by a friendly bartender who invited us in. We were able to choose where to sit. We chose a high table near the window overlooking Elm Street. There are more high tables and low tables of various sizes and two areas with sofa seating for 4-6 people each. There is also a large bar to sit at, as well. Very nice ambience with lots to admire. For cocktails, I had the Lumbersac which was very tasty. Jane had the 815 Old Fashioned which she really liked. The food menu is about half appetizers with a few entrees. We shared Beet Pickled Deviled Eggs (5 came on the plate). They were very good-not your typical deviled eggs. We also had the Charcuterie & Cheese Board which was a perfect size for the 2 of us. All of the staff are extremely friendly. Our server was attentive without being intrusive. The cocktails and the food came to us quickly and our water glasses were never empty. The bathroom was sparkling clean. I will surely return and recommend 815 without hesitation. read more

I love speakeasy bars. Located on a main street on the corner of a building. Pre covid, you needed a password to enter then you were lead up a staircase and a wall opened to reveal the location. Now you just walk up and in. Dark lightening, comfy couches and chairs or sit at the bar. Lots of crafted cocktails, wine, beer or go for what you know with top shelf liquors. Offering small plates. One huge dissapointed was the God awful music playing. Reason for 4/5 vs 5/5. Seemed low and instrumental but not a relaxing vibe. It was worse than elevator music and like on a reel. In a non-descript doorway lies the stairs to take you up to a swanky speakeasy. All that is outside of the door is "815," the address. We walked into the restaurant next door asking the hostess where the bar was, and she didn't even know. A waitress overheard us, and escorted us to the staircase that the building tenants share. When a worker in the same building as the bar doesn't even know it exists, that means you're at a hip, trendy place. We ascended the staircase and were greeted with vibes that I was instantly feeling and falling in love with. The bartender greeted us and promptly sat us by the window, adjacent to the cool lounge set up with the prohibition brick background. I have been following them on Instagram, and saw that their drink menu was recently changed, just before we got there. I saw a drink where they put a glass topper on it to smoke it. I wanted that drink, but I didn't communicate it well and ended up getting a smoked old fashioned. THIS WAS THE BEST OLD FASHIONED I HAD EVER HAD. It was smoked, by turning the glass on top of the items being smoked while the main meat of the drink was being stirred. That smoke flavor was everything. It was vanilla and smooth and aromatic. Tasting with my nose became a thing that evening. Both the combination of the smell and taste elevated my senses. This drink will go down in the books as THE drink. The one I dream about and will always remember. Not only as the decor off the hook, they also ask for a password to enter, but only during normal times. During COVID times, you just walk in. There's a phone booth with a doorbell and you're admitted through a wall. The interior is well decorated, with a swanky and hipstery vibe. It doesn't feel uppity, rather it's the perfect mix of great drinks with a dark, laid back atmosphere. The bartender recommended something off menu based on my preferences, and it was awesome. I'm a bit of a cynic but the whole super secret setup is kind of fun! I've been here a couple of times-they change the cocktails all the time (their age-barreled and once it's out they make something new)-I don't always love the original creations on rotation but the drinks are solid and when in doubt they consistently make the classics well. Wait staff is relaxed, friendly and knowledgable : ) The snacks are interesting and tasty but the servings are weird (The pita and hummus came with too much hummus for the pita provided and the salmon paste came with so much paste and only a little bit of bread.) Amazing craft beer list! I can't remember the last time I saw a Clown Shoes porter on a beer list. The server is very knowledgeable about her beer. The atmosphere is cool. Definitely a place to bring a date. I enjoyed the Pollo Lima tacos with my Clown Shoes Snow On The Maple Tree Imperial Stout. We also enjoyed the Allagash Map 40 coffee stout. Great atmosphere. Inspired cocktails. Who doesn't love a speakeasy with a Harry Potteresque wall and password to enter. It is a really fun place with a hipster vibe that just won't quit, and that's a good thing. Another reviewer found the servers pretentious, I don't find them warm and fuzzy but I don't like a lot of chit chat with my waitstaff anyway. Just bring me the tasty morsels and I am happy. My friends brought me here to this hidden and secret bar tucked up and back. They whispered the pass code to me as we walked up the dark staircase to the top. When you get to the top landing the only thing there is a old vintage telephone booth. This is where you call in and relay the pass code. Once verified, the wall opens up and the party begins! I want to give this five stars because the atmosphere was amazing, the food was great and the drinks were mixed perfectly. But, the hostess immediately made us feel as if we were out of place. There was no greeting, and a very awkward interaction as we finally figured out she was trying to seat us. "Do you wanna sit here" with no prior conversation is a little off putting lol. I have talked with my friends who have gone here and they agree it's not a very welcoming vibe especially for trying something new. But I would not let this stop you from exploring, because if you're in Manchester you know very well there are no good bars for people under 30. Best liquor selection in New Hampshire. If you like options of quality liquor, this is hands down your best choice. You can tell the moment you walk in It's obvious the owners hand pick their vendors for liquor and they've made a fantastic atmosphere. Plenty of private spots to sit and converse. I've read some of the negative reviews about this place and I can only say that some people take life way to seriously. This is a great date bar, especially on weeknights. It's quiet, moody, the lighting is flattering, and it's a little bit challenging. You can't just get the same drink you always get out. Pondering the interesting drinks on the menu is a great way to start a conversation! That said, I usually just get the French 75 here, which is good, if a little sweeter than I make at home (but then, I don't add simple syrup, so of course it's sweeter). I've also had a couple of the other interesting cocktails, which have all been great. I can't remember the name of one I particularly liked--I think it was Doctor's Orders or something. It had apple brandy, chartreuse, and gin, I believe. Yum! The service here is attentive enough--somebody always seems to know when your drink is empty. Only once have I tried the food here, and it was just OK. My date and I split the cheese and meat board--awesome! Of course I later saw things that looked eerily familiar at Aldi, but who cares? It was tasty! We then had a flatbread with about 18 different kinds of pork included--it was OK, but a little dry. Finally, we had the flourless chocolate cake which came with toasted marshmallow and peanut butter. I found the cake itself to be a bit dry, but the toppings made up for it. My date was visiting from another country and had never tried the wonderous combination of marshmallow and peanut butter before--he's sold! I'll definitely keep coming back here. The gimmick to get in is fun, and you can always see if your date put any thought into it by seeing if he knows how to get in. Glad I decided to drop in, before going to a concert in the area. Atmosphere is cozy, yet open. Staff is unpretentious and talkative. Been to many "speakeasys" during my time living in NYC and there are definitely some welcome similarities at 815 relating to atmosphere and tone/feel of the establishment, e.g. Dead Rabbit, PDT, Little Branch, Nitecap (some of my faves.) I wish though, that the lighting was a little dimmer and they had candles scattered around. Cliché, I know. This was the brightest speakeasy I've ever been in and it felt... off? Maybe that's just me. Would love to see more vodka concoctions on the menu too, but our bartender was happy enough to make something up - I asked for an herb-forward vodka + cucumber cocktail and it tasted great! Will definitely go back whenever I am in the area. I am not sure how this spot stacks up to other bars in the immediate area but my inkling is that 815 is a much needed diversion. read more

They make interesting and experimental drink concoctions that are hit or miss but still fun trying them out.
