Came in for burger night on Monday. Excellent value for a large burger and hand cut fries. $8 can't beat it. If you're not playing trivia, it's loud and can be annoying. Didn't realize it was trivia night too. We came in near the end of it, so we only had to listen to about 30 minutes worth. Service was good. Okay, let me first tell you that this little place has great food. Nothing fancy, like visiting you friend with that big basement with a bar in it. Feels homey and you always feel like most of the people there are old friends or soon to be new ones. I'm only writing this review because of some weird things that happened to us lately. My wife and I have been coming steady for at least the last 2 or 3 months so noticed some things. When we order beer on tap, the pricing is different on different nights. And last week, when we came, they charged us more for cheap beer than they do for a Dortmunder Gold? Didn't really check out the bill until we got home. I know they need to make a profit, but don't make me feel like I'm getting ripped off. Dorts usually go for $3.50 a bottle. Well last week one night they ran out, - so we got some Shiner in bottles instead. When the bill came, they had charged us $4.25 ea for those. What gives? Over the weekend saw that Shiners 12-Pack going for $16 bucks while the Dortmunder Goldwas $19. How do you justify charging more for lower level beer? We like the owner and she treats everyone great so don't want to make a stink with her or her husband, but letting her know - so the other staff doesn't play any tricks to pad their pockets. read more

I tried to cash my Keno ticket and only received a third of what I was supposed to get, the problem was resolved after a massive ordeal. I ordered a pizza and it was worse than a boxed pizza from Walmart. Last but not least their computers were down and I always leave a cash tip but even with a cash tip they took the liberty to give themselves a bonus 20% tip. That is stealing last time I checked. I stopped in recently to try their wings for the King of Wings event hosted by Lorain County Visitors Center. Friendly service and the food was okay, but I have to rate 1 star because they are adding surcharges to debit card payments and this violates their credit processing agreement with Visa/Mastercard and is illegal. They are fully allowed to add surcharges to credit card purchases (up to 4%), but they cannot add this to debit card purchases. I told them this and I basically got an "oh well, can't do anything about it" response. I've notified my bank and filed a complaint with Visa that will be investigated. The barmaid, Jessica, yelled at us about 5 minutes after we arrived (one of the girls with us didn't wear her mask) and for the rest of the time that we were there she continually talked about us to the other patrons. When we closed the blind because the sun was hitting the one girl in the face and she couldn't see - the barmaid, Jessica, told one of the patrons that we f***ing think we could do anything we want - so when I told her loudly that we closed it due to it blinding the one girl she told me to pay my tab, get the f**k out and she was calling the police. The food used to be soo good, however, the last 2 or 3 times we went there it was horrible. Stopped in with friends for their perch dinner. Horrid! Great atmosphere, eclectic mix of folks. Nice neighborhood spot. Now for the perch. Three small filets, none over 3 inches. Breading was all I could taste. That was mostly an oily taste. Came with a side of fries and coleslaw. Eh. Fair. Would not go back for the perch. I would go back to try a burger. Fun upbeat atmosphere. Very difficult to hear conversations due to wide open space and all the din. I would say try it at least once. I do not recommend the perch. read more

We've eaten here a handful of times, and it has yet to disappoint! We've had burgers, salads, wraps, wings, loaded skins, etc... Our latest adventure tonight was a plain old cheeseburger, and the California Asiago Chicken. Our server recommended that my GF get it as a wrap, as opposed to the sandwich. She was extremely happy with the suggestion. Only complaint tonight was the fries were a bit extra crispy. While normally not an issue, again, my ONLY complaint. Stoppped in during king of the wings competition. Places my order while sitting at the bar anxiously awaiting my food. Was not overly busy when I placed my order, but looked as if bartenders were a bit chaotic. Sat back and enjoyed a large draft, and then ordered a second. After 45 minutes my food still never came out, and it seemed as if no one had an idea why. It is apparent that the person who took my order, and had a discussion with me in regards to the king of wings, never put it in. She then tried to pass the buck, saying she did not take the order. On top of all of that, they then charge you an extra 3.5 percent to use a credit card, saying the menu prices are a "Cash discount". The new manager or owner has done a nice job improving the quality of the tavern over the previous establishment, but with issues like these, I am not a happy customer at all, and will hesitate to return read more

We have been frequenting this establishment for four or five years. We have always enjoyed our meal and the beer and especially the service. We understand that there was a pandemic and things were shut down for quite a while plus the fact that prices have escalated so much. But we have gone back to this restaurant in the last month at least twice. We went on taco night and ordered four of the pork tacos, we got a half an inch of pork in the bottom of our taco plus about 2 teaspoons of coleslaw. So we thought it might just be a bad night. Went back again this evening and my husband got a steak cooked medium which came out rare and gristly. I ordered the shrimp and french fries, the french fries looked like they were cooked in hot oil for about 30 minutes. I am sorry to say that this was our last night of going there. I was meeting my brother to have some dinner and drinks and we decided to try 83 & Chestnut. I arrived first and saw that there were 3 bar seats available so I sat on the middle seat. One of the gals bartending was going down the bar asking if everyone was alright or needed anything. When she got to me, she ignored me and kept on going down the line checking on everyone else. She then went to the cash register and was looking at her phone. I was still sitting there waiting to be acknowledged when a man came in and sat down to my right. The bartender immediately came up to him and asked what he would like. I put my hands up in the air like "hello" and she finally asked what I would like! Ridiculous! When my brother came in and sat to my left, he was immediately greeted and asked what he wanted. Then the other bartender came up to us and rudely said "those are someone else's seats, they're out smoking" and walked away! There was nothing on the bar to indicate that anyone was sitting there! Needless to say, we finished our beer, paid and left. We will never go back to that place again! read more

We made it a point to stop in here having driven by many times. My boyfriend remembers when it had been previous bars, but hadn't been in for many, many years. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but is super cute and surprising on the inside! Pretty clean, plenty of seating. Not a ton of food options, but what they did have was typical bar menu options. We were both very happy with what we ordered, food was very good! Service was slow, tho we were acknowledged fairly quickly it did take a long while before we were served. (Service got a bit better as the night went on). My only real complaint would be the owner, who was extremely loud, obnoxious and appeared to be drinking with patrons (certainly her right but not terribly professional). My wife and I stopped in for the first time this past Saturday evening. It was a great experience all around. The staff was really friendly!!!! I mean we spoke to nearly everyone working and EVERY person could not have been nicer to us! Made us feel like regulars. You could really tell the staff had been trained and were in the business of pleasing patrons. I was impressed by how good all the food looked. I settled on a patty melt. It was fantastic!!!
