I've been in the search for a great Chinese bakery especially since I grew up around them. I went to school in Chinatown, and it was very customary for me to get a bbq bun before or after school. Needless to say, this is not the place for it. For those looking for the more traditional Chinese buns, this is not the place. I got the ham and cheese bun, and it was fine, but it didn't take me back to the bakeries I went to as a child or during the times I was in Hong Kong. IYKYK. That being said, I don't wanna poo poo on this place. It appears that they have some great drink options and some sweets that other people might like. I'm just not that type of girl. I stopped in the mall today and I was a little hungry and parched. I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich, the passion fruit tea and strawberry matcha bun. The ham and cheese was pretty good. It had an egg on it which made me wonder, why it wasn't called a ham, egg and cheese sandwich... but anywho.... It was good, the bread was actually puff pastry making it light and fluffy, they didn't skimp on the meat and the sauce tasted like it had a pinch of horseradish, it had poppy seeds on the outside for the look. I would definitely recommend for a light lunch. The matcha strawberry bun is green making it very eye catching. When biting into it, you can definitely taste the matcha, which was just okay, the strawberry feeling made it a lot better again very solid. read more

A nice, spacious Asian bakery inside the Arden Fair Mall. It expands all the way to the back with entrance from the parking lot, so you don't even have to walk through the mall if you just want to go there for a coffee and cafe. I have been to several 85 locations. The deserts are always delicious and I always return for my premium milk pastry. This experience was slightly different. I walked into a semi disheveled location with dirty tables and random trash throughout the area. Could have been a busy day so I didn't take that into consideration. It was around 7 PM on a Saturday night, the employees looked miserable No one greated you or even smiled to be honest. There were only about 10 to 15 customers inside the store when I arrived, there was no line... mainly people just waiting for their drinks or orders. I kindly asked if they had any more premium milk pastries and she said "nope done for the day" . I went to look around to see what else they had and half the pasties didn't have labels so I had no idea what kind of pastry it was. The smell alone is divine, and I was pleasantly surprised by the assortment of baked goods and pastries that 85C offers. 85C has a serve-yourself model, and their baked goods and pastries are French and Asian inspired which I love. My partner and I picked out a few baked goods and cookies to go, and the service was quick at check out. To our surprise, our six items came out to $15, which is a steal for this kind of quality. My favorite selection was the marble taro bun with taro filling! This delicate flavor was infused perfectly without being overpowering, and the bun was big enough for my partner and I to share. I was initially going to buy the sausage roll, however was concerned as it isn't refrigerated. I asked the staff member when they were prepared and she said in the afternoon. As it's 6:30 pm, that is a pretty big window of meat being unrefrigerated. She said that it's safe for it to be unrefrigerated for 4 hours. I don't think so. My advice is to download the app so you can accrue rewards and get the deals they do- like usually there's a BOGO deal in there or something. Everything here is so good though and the prices are unbeatable- usually like $2-3 for a pastry and $4-6 for a coffee or boba drink. The cream cheese stuffed bread we got was lacking is stuffedness, so didn't match the picture. All together though, love the amazing selection of breads, and will become a regular spot for us. Full review: This baker is definitely a hot spot, and deservingly so! We were cutting through this bakery to get into the mall for some returns and ended up stopped in our tracks. We went pretty close to mall closing time trying to avoid crowds but they still had an amazing selection. We returned the next morning because we wanted to try their coffee drinks and the shelves were full! The night before we got a cream cheese stuffed bun, regular bun, a slice of the blueberry cheesecake, and a mango slush. The bread is so fluffy and has a sweet hint to it that reminded me of the Hawaiian rolls. I was a little disappointed with the cream cheese stuffing as it was pretty much nonexistent, more of a cream cheese inner lining, not like the photo they have for the product. The cheese cake was good, without being overly sweet and decadent like a Cheesecake Factory slice (which is also love). Mango slush was good, definitely a slushie though and NOT a smoothie like what my boyfriend thought it was going to be. The next day we returned and got a bacon and cheese bread, lavender taro latte, and a hazelnut latte both iced. The bread was really good and the coating was reminiscent of a garlic bread, so yummy! I also tried the cocobun which is very similar but the dough has a hint of chocolate and the cream is chocolate..lots of chocolate going on but just the right amount. You can't just get a couple of treats here so I also tried the chocolate mousse cake. It has 2 layers of cake with 2 layers of chocolate mousse. The mousse was divine and the cake was spongy, reminding me of a sponge cake. A little richer than the other pastries that I purchased, making it more of a true dessert. Love that everything is freshly baked and that you can see everything before you buy, lots of choices and very reasonable prices. It's hard to come out with just one thing! They do sell out of items, especially the egg tart, which is my mom's favorite. They also have seasonal offerings with fresh fruit. They also offer savory pastries, full cakes, and boba. Buns are typically not fresh out the oven and warm when you pick them, but they are still tasty. They're all baked well and didn't have any raw or burnt sections. They also have a variety of drinks you can order at the counter or kiosk. I like their passionfruit green tea. It has good passionfruit flavor and the tea flavor is very distinguishable. First time trying this shop at the Arden Fair Mall, and it was just ok. We came in from the parking lot entrance and the dining room was a disaster. We grabbed an egg tart and a mushroom pastry thing (can't remember what it was called), and got in line. The line was long, but moved quickly! We also ordered a slice of Black Forest Cake, which is my husband's all time favorite cake. I ordered a Boba Milk Tea with 25% sweetness, and I can't remember what he ordered to drink. The cashier was friendly, quick, and efficient. I grabbed a table in the mall area right outside the shop since the dining room was so dirty. He enjoyed the cake, although he is still looking for an authentic tasting German Black Forest cake - it was still very good. It was leaps and bounds better than Kathrins in Roseville.
