My family and I had dinner next door from Dane's Bakery last night and when we walked out, we were instantly hit in the nose holes with the sweet smell of Pan Dulce. Next thing you know...we're walking into Dane's where the smell just got stronger and more delightful. It's the epitome of a mom and pop shop - being in business for 20+ years and has only been owned and run by their family. They crank out Pan Dulce like no one's business - they had a case full as well as racks that had just came out of the oven. They also had refrigerators full of Flan, Gelatinas, Churro Cheesecake and even massive fruit cups. We bought a bag full of Pan Dulce and a Gelatina de Mosaico that my daughter and I shared on the drive home - it was the perfect light dessert to end our evening. Overall, the Pan Dulce was pretty good and the service was even better. The guy working the front was very friendly and personable. i was looking around yelp for a while looking for flan to get my significant other for his birthday (it's his favorite) and it was kind of difficult finding a place who sold a whole flan! but luckily when i stopped by after work, they had a whole flan in stock! it was in the fridge along with other desserts such as churro cheesecake, chocolate flan, and more treats! I wish i took a picture of the fridge! it was 36 dollars for the whole flan and i didn't expect them to decorate it but it came out so cute and im happy with how it turned out! It's really hit or miss when you get pan dulce- a.k.a. Mexican sweet bread- the bread is either soft and has good flavor, or it's hard and dry. The bread I got here was soft and delicious! Not only do they sell bread, but they have different Jell-O flavors like coconut, pistachio, nuez (nuts). We bought the rompope flavor (eggnog) since it's that time of year! They also sell cakes which were decorated beautifully! The man at the counter was super friendly and had great customer service. The front where the customers stand is small, but the kitchen area in the back is quite large. And nothing beats the smell of a panaderia!! I'll definitely be back! read more

I found this little gem by chance when a family member was craving something sweet, and we thought, why not some pan dulce? Our first stop was La Esperanza, but as usual, it was packed. On the way home, I happened to spot this place and was immediately drawn in by the smell of fresh baked goods right from the parking lot. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted and helped right away. The shop is small, but the selection is excellent, and the pan dulce was absolutely delicious. If you're looking for fresh pastries that value quality over quantity this is the place. So many choices that each visit a new item is discovered. This visit I had planned on getting a pineapple empanada but when I asked what kind they had they also had apple. Tip, always ask what they have on the racks or ask if they have what specific item you are looking for. Since they are constantly baking fresh item, they might have it ready but cooling on the racks. Then they mentioned there are 2 different type of Apple empanadas. 1 has the traditional crust and the other has a flakey crust. So I did what any empanada loving person would do and got one of each. We had the pleasure of visiting this local Mexican bakery. Everything that is made here is 100% handmade authentic Mexican pastries. They have been in the Sacramento area for 22 years. It is family owned not only do they sell pastries. They also sell beautifully crafted birthday and wedding cakes. I met the owner and her son. Their customer service was not only excellent, but made me feel so welcomed. We tried multiple pastries and everything we tried. You can feel the love and authenticity of each item. If you want to be robbed, come here. If I could I'd give 0 stars. My brother in law picked up a Churro cheesecake I ordered and when I saw it, I was so upset. I couldn't even gift it. I was so embarrassed. The churro cheesecake was burnt, and dry. To top it off, the writing looked like my 3 year old did it. When I ordered I was told it would have lechera and Nutella drizzle... if you think that's chocolate, that's not what it is. That's burnt! I called and spoke to a lady, and she told me that I could not be refunded. She said that since the cake left the bakery there was nothing she could do. Very small, mom & pop, non-descript place for Mexican pastries. I usually make my way here in the mornings right after they open, and while they do not have a large variety of pastries and sweets, they certainly have all of my favorites; the little pigs, vanilla custard empanada, pineapple empanada, raspberry jelly roll, vanilla cream roll, conchas, galletas de grageas (sugar cookies with the multicolored sprinkles), polvorones rosas (pink sugar cookies), flan, gelatina de mosaico (colorful squares of Jell-O that are layered in a creamy and milky jello). La Esperanza certainly has a ginormous collection of baked goods compared to Dane's however Dane's consistently has all of their baked goods ready and available for purchase shortly after 8 AM. La Esperanza opens at 7 AM but they rarely have their full variety of items ready to purchase early in the morning and if you go later in the morning (to La Esperanza) and even around lunchtime, it's a zoo and lines are out the door and they move extremely slow; hence, Dane's is my little bakery of choice. Unfortunately, Dane's is not open on Sunday. In terms of the customer service: the ladies at the counter aren't very friendly, however, they are not overtly rude. They just don't smile and don't say much so I can deal with that. This is why I gave them four stars versus five stars. read more

Very good pan dulce!! I tried the cortadillo pink cake, and it is very moist and perfectly sweet. The other things I tried were also very yummy. Their flan is mild yet sweet just like how I like my custard. The woman who helped me at the counter was very sweet, she speaks more spanish than english but even though I dont speak spanish she still answered all my questions. First time trying this place. The pastries are pretty good. I'm reviewing more about the lady's attitude. We walk in and we were the only people there. There's was no greeting or a smile, nothing. She just stands there without offering any help with the pastries like what's in them etc. If she is the owner it's such bad business to have a Shitty attitude like that. What happens in each of these situations: walking into a bar, taking the MCAT or any of many standardized tests, buying beers at gas stations, and buying student rate museum tickets? They always ask for an ID. And I don't think my pastries should be exempt this. Who do they think they are? Only rappers can walk into a club with no ID, not a churro. Speaking of churros, as I mentioned in my tip there have been no churros after numerous visits. Upon entering Dane's bakery, you won't see any identifying information of anything, whether it be price or what it even is. You are left with two options 1) feel super annoying and go along both pastry cases asking what every single thing is or 2) gesticulate randomly and end up with a mystery selection at a mystery price. I shamelessly took the first route, only to discover that the lady's responses were vague and terse enough that I should have just pointed randomly. That said, the mystery price after selecting my pastries was rock bottom cheap. Like seriously, perhaps one of the lowest priced bakeries I've ever encountered. The pastries themselves were just alright. My favorite is the gingerbread pig, but even then it wasn't particularly amazing. Everything I've gotten has been distinctly dry. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a difference in preference though. Also, it's a little annoying that they only have enormous ~25 piece boxes or 2-3 piece paper bags. If you want to find something more exciting than bringing a dozen donuts to that next meeting, your options are either bringing two dozen, or bringing an unwieldy mass of paper bags for your friends/frenemies/coworkers/whoever to awkwardly split and get their fingers all over while looking through each narrow paper bag. Overall, Dane's bakery has quite the range of decent baked goods in a slightly run down and difficult to comprehend store, but it's a reasonable bet for your sugar fix. read more

A mexican bakery. Pasteleria. Part of a strip mall on the corner of Broadway and 65th. I walked in and nothing was labeled. I didn't know what anything was, really. So, for an outsider-- it's a little difficult. I would ask about particular items and the lady there was nice and she answered. What's that shaped like a pig? Gingerbread. Really? You see, to an outsider, someone who doesn't know shit about this.. It's a little odd. A pig gingerbread. But it's a Puerquito. I looked it up. It's a known thing. I was curious about everything but, I felt like a problem person asking about this and that so I limited myself. I chose a couple things. It's not a place to have a drink or eat..
