King Grapefruit Black Tea if they'll make it (they're so far the only location that ever has). King Grapefruit Green Tea, not as good as the black. What to milky drink: Sea Salt Iced Coffee. Sea Salt Iced Caramel Coffee. Sea Salt Black Tea. Also great to eat: Choco Bun. Taro Swirl. Coconut Tart. Not as good: Coffee Bread. Regular Milk Tea. Anything with green tea. Marble Taro. Red Bean Bread. I didn't even want to come back, because surely lightning could not strike twice - but it absolutely did. Completely different employees, so we thought that since every other 85 on the planet is not only reluctant but hostile and completely unwilling about changing their King Grapefruit Green Tea to Black tea, that we'd be SOL. This is the only location that ever did it for us but none of the people that did it for us were here. So we tried it with an entirely new set of employees and they were totally fine with it. So nice about it - just like the first set of employees months earlier. And the drink was every bit as spectacular as we expected it to be. I'm not sure why there is a stick right up the ass of every other location (and of HQ) in this regard, but these folks are the model professionals and is by far my favourite location of 85 in the whole world. Now if only their desserts were piping hot like the really busy stores, there would be nothing at all that they could do to improve. The Houston Chinatown location is always warm and toasty and fresh, but their attitudes are even fresher. Low down on the drinks: - Lemon Black Tea is heaven. Get it with tapioca. Subtle and not too sweet. Tastes homemade. Perfect. - King Grapefruit is a huge grapefruit in a huge cup, spectacular with black tea, still good with green tea, excellent with boba. - Sea Salt drinks are heaven. All these are iced, not hot. The Coffee, Caramel Coffee, and Black Tea are all addictive and divine with Sea Salt and Boba, but the Caramel Coffee is the winner and is the must try drink at 85. Conclusion: Order the Caramel Sea Salt Iced Coffee. If you love lemon or grapefruit, order those with black tea. And as for the pastries: - The Egg Tart is pure heaven. When it's piping hot, it's the greasiest and one of the tastiest on the whole planet. It's not good for you, but then neither is unprotected frolicking with strangers on vacation in the third world and that never stopped you now did it. - Brioche looked like it'd be all hype, but it is as dreamy as people say it is. - Choco Bun and cookies are good - Guava Cheese Strudel is divine, much better than it sounds, may be the low key best pastry (see what I did there I'm so trendy) Some of the other stuff isn't as good. This is a cute little bakery in Richardson's Chinatown strip center. All of the stores are unassuming and non-descript from the outside, but step inside and their unique style is noticeable. This sleek, modern bakery has a grab-and-go area where you can get a tray and tongs, place a wax paper sheet on the tray, and then start opening the plexiglass doors to grab the sweet or savory items you are interested in devouring. After you have loaded up your tray, head to the back of the store where there is a checkout line. Once at the counter, you can order additional food, drink or just pay your bill. There is a small sitting area for those who want to stay awhile. I took my items to go. The clerk put each item in a cellophane bag and then placed all of the items in a plastic grocery bag. Surprisingly the bakery items kept their form and nothing got squished on their way to the car/home. The bill was reasonable. They don't take American Express, so be ready to pay in cash or use MC or Visa. Most items were affordable at prices below $3. The spicy sausage was my favorite. It was both spicy and had a hint of sweetness to it. I ate it cold. The Hawaiian chicken was bland in contrast. I threw it in the microwave to see if that would improve the taste. It did a bit, but I would skip this item next time. The taro bun was soft with a small amount of taro cream inside. It was a nice surprise and not overwhelming. However the bun is big and best shared with someone. This is a lovely place to stop and snack no matter the time of day. If carbs are your jam, come hang out here- all sort of baked goods and they're all good. It's easy to get carried away since the pastries are all pretty cheap and next thing you know, you're walking about with about 20 treats and wonder "how did I get here?". Variety of treats- things you can eat for breakfast, like sausage rolls or bacon/egg rolls to things you can snack on or have for dessert, like rolls with red bean filling or custard filling. Also I am not sure if this only applies to this location or all but it seems that the prices for the pastries here are a bit higher than the other locations.. Like all the other locations, super busy and bread runs out pretty quickly. I think they do try their best to refill it though. Lines are long but very quick because they do have many employees working very hard! I love the egg tarts here, sea salt caramel coffee, mango smoothie, the squid ink bread, the chocolate bread, and so much more. Tbh majority of the stuff is good here. Great variety, plus hot coffee lattes with a subtley salted foam available on top if you want-- I know it sounds wrong, but it's actually delish! Also they have a "cheese" foam that I couldn't believe I liked even more, lol. Their sweet breads, cake slices (plus whole cakes if you need), and things like melt-in-your-mouth warm "salted butter bread" and mango custard keep the place crowded usually, but the line moves fast. Went in on a Monday around 8:15pm. They are located in Richardson's Chinatown. Went in and most of the cases were empty :( It was okay, I wasn't there for the bread. Going inside, there is actually a decent size and a few tables that you could sit at eating bread. Prices here are equivalent to those of NorCal, a little bit higher than Socal's prices. I was there for the 85 cent coffee on Mondays. Coffee :D Even though there was only one group ahead of us and two different people working in the area, it still took about 10-15 minutes for them to get the coffee out for us. Welps. The taste of the coffee was way watered down and wasn't strong like I was expecting. Maybe it was because it was cuz it was Monday... They did have a lot of dessert that was being displayed. I used to love this place until today! I placed an online order and got a drink wrong. It was supposed to be a sea salt coffee with bobba, they didn't add bobba to it and it's extra so I paid for it. The order had another drink with bobba and they didn't give the proper straws for bobba drinks. When asking about the bobba, instead of making a new drink, they reused the same coffee and mixed it all together adding the bobba. The whole point of having the sea salt foam is that it's separate on top. I got a mixed in drink because they didn't do it right in the first place. Not wanting to visit that location again! 85c has to be one of the best things that happened to DFW. What makes me happiest is that they are popping around all over the place, and I no longer have to fret moving to Frisco because I know there is or will be one nearby. I've tried most of the pastries offered except for the cake slices and some of the tarts. My personal favorites are the cheese dogs, the shredded pork bun, and the boroh bread. My least favorites have been the bacon cheese bread (a wonderful concept, but the execution is always lacking) and the kale bread (trying to make health food happen at a bakery is commendable but not necessary). The drinks are great! I'm lactose intolerant, so it's a godsend that the milk teas are made with nondairy substitute (I don't know if it's vegan, but it doesn't hurt to ask! You can order your drinks with soy for a 50 cent upcharge now though), I always get the hot green milk tea. Tapioca pearls are available for the upcharge, but I don't recommend them, usually they're undercooked. Opt for the jellies or pudding add-ins instead. You definitely get the most bang for your buck at 85c; anytime I bring a dozen pastries from here to friends and coworkers, they are always shocked by the variety and quality and ask where I picked it up from, expecting a high-end location with outrageous prices :) nope! This is a very popular bakery in north Dallas. Fresh bread every day, coffees and boba teas as well. The breads we bought were all good, well made and full of flavor. We bought a mango crème brûlée cake for a family gathering, unfortunately, this cake did not cause a good impression. The best thing we tried were the mini-tarts, they were delicious. We LOVE 85 degrees, but was highly let down at this location. We came on a Saturday evening, and it wasn't very busy. The selection was next to nothing, and they had 2 hours until closing. On one section there were flies flying around the breads. We grabbed a few breads that were left and then headed to the counter. The lady there never acknowledged us, so I just walked up and placed my tray in front of her. She rang us up, not speaking a word. On our way out, we stopped by to grab napkins and came across and nasty pile of trash looked like it hadn't been dumped on hours. My wife and I stopped by here today on an errand in Richardson. You can eat in, though many people get it to go. If you are eating in, make it VERY clear. Otherwise they will wrap the goodies up which is really not required. We shared a couple of savoury items and one sweet pastry plus had some coffee. They were very well made & we thought they were great values. The Ham & Cheese danish was quite good. The cheese melted on top had the color of cheddar & the ham inside was smoky & tasty. The dough had a bit of sweet in it and contributed to a great overall taste profile. The spinach danish was excellent. It consisted of crusty & buttery dough surrounding soft & salty spinach. The Apple/almond danish was pretty good. A bit too soft & creamy for my liking but a worth ending to a really good breakfast. The coffee was quite good and at three and a half bucks approached pricing at big, national chains. We would happily go back. read more

My wife loves the sweet breads and Chocolate Croissants here, my kids love the cakes and Boba Teas. My personal favorites are the Savory breads like the bacon or hot dog rolls. Pro Tip though for everyone - if you go late close to closing time, they can be out of a lot of stuff. I love this place; it always has fresh pastries and dessert. Supper yummy. I got the cheesecake and a chocolate bun and the taro latte. All were great! I got charged for 2 drinks and the cashier came up to me and informed me of his mistake and fixed it. I was so surprised he was more attentive than me which showed me their amazing customer service! This is my favorite bakery I've ever found. Delicious food and coffee. The Hokkaido custard bun is by far my favorite, but I've tried about half of the baked goods and a few of the cake slices and they're all good. You can also add espresso to the Taro Lavender Latte for a extra special treat. Just keep in mind their drinks are very sweet, so you may want to order them 50% or 25% sweet. We stopped by at this location, because we were in the area and Jamie just visited (and loved) the Carrollton store. It was my first experience with this chain, and I was impressed. There were 50-60 cases with different (very fresh, sweet and savory) selections, the store was bright and shiny clean, and there were plenty of manned registers (three) to provide quick service. Today, we got a chocobun (A light fluffy round pocket of cocoa goodness), a sausage in the best kolache dough that has ever touched my lips-palate, and a pack of little lemon cakes, light and moist and delish, in a not too sweet way. 85C Bakery Cafe is not cheap, but it is a very pleasant ambience and service experience, with delicious baked goods and coffee drinks, like the best that a Starbucks crossbred with a French bakery has to offer, all in one stop in my favorite Asian strip center in the metroplex. read more

I'm so happy so see an authentic Chinese bakery in Dallas. I found it hard to find when I first moved here. This location is the closest to Highland Park so it's very convenient. Fresh baked goods, nice bright decor and a big following make this a great place to come. Bakeries like these are very common in Toronto but are starting to catch on here. There is usually a bit of a lineup which I'm not used to, but at least that means there's high turnover and the goods are fresh. My only complaint is they don't have some of the staples I would have expected like BBQ pork buns, pineapple buns, etc. it's kind of a fusion between Chinese and European baked goods. If you haven't heard of 85 degree bakery yet, you need to come in and experience this unique Chinese bakery. Rows and rows of freshly baked bread. Grab a tray, paper, and tongs and have at it! They'll package everything individually in cellophane and box it up for you. There is so much to choose from and everything I've had is delicious. There are savory and sweet options and I have yet to try them all. But my favorites and i make sure to always get are: calamari stick - like the best garlic bread you've ever had. It's darkened by using squid ink and filled with a salty delicious cheese marble taro - taro anything is delicious. This one is swirled with sweet and chewy bread. sweet snow bread - creamy filling in a sweet breado Egg tart- one of the best ones I've had. Creamy not too sweet and the crust tastes so buttery! As for their drinks, they say they get coffee beans from Guatemala. And I assume that makes for a delicious coffee cause their lattes are very tasty. The salted iced coffee is my go-to. Their green tea latte is a bit florally and wished it was more matcha flavored. And unfortunately this location didn't have taro on our visit. Everything is amazing and can only wish that one of their franchise locations will make it to Florida. When there's an 85° bakery, there I'll be. Usually love coming to get the milk pudding bread, some cheese and egg tarts. This location is located in so called Little Chinatown. It's not as big as other locations I've been to. It was dirty and low on quantity throughout. I came two different days at two different times, one early morning and one later in the day and had similar experiences each visit. As I sorted through the little choices I had, I saw spiders crawling through the pastries and hair strands attached to some egg tarts. The tables were dirty and employees seemed to not want to be there either. Not appealing whatsoever. I would've thought they, overall, were having a bad day but if I came twice and I had a bad experience both times, it's inexcusable. Try another location. read more

This is my FAVORITE bakery!! I just wish there was one in Florida, but when I came to visit my bestfriend here I made her take me to this bakery and it was worth it. ALL OF IT! They serve Chinese baked goods that are both sweet and savory and serve hot and cold beverages in store as well. Once you enter the bakery you walk into goodness. All the baked goods are in separated into their individual containers and some of the baked goods are served in boxes. My personal favorites to get are the egg tarts (BEST egg tarts ever), Taro Pastry, Taro Muffin (not sure what it's called exactly but looks like a huge muffin), Squid Ink bread, Taro Bread (do you see a trend here? I had a horrible experience here. There was a sign in the store that said (BOGO) Buy 1 Drink and Get 1 Free, so I ordered two 85 degree coffees and requested this deal. The cashier said that I could only get this through the App. So I had to download the App which took forever because there is no WiFi in the Store. Then I had to make a new account which took forever because the App wanted 2 factor authorization with a greater than 10-character password with special characters which I had to type twice and I messed up my password so I had to do it again and again. The cashier was not happy with me and the people waiting behind me were mad because I was taking so long so I finally left my pastries and cancelled my order. What a scam!!! This is false advertising. The BOGO sign needs to say "APP EXCLUSIVE" in the biggest font on their sign, not some tiny font in the corner that requires a magnifying glass to read!!!!!
