Quanta firfir with injera bread (delicious breakfast)
    Jordan N.

I've been to a few Ethiopian places in Dallas (not enough to be honest), but this one is the only one to have me coming back more than twice. Maybe it's because it is the only place I know of that serves Habesha (Ethiopian/Eritrean) breakfast in the Metroplex. And it's the first time I've had it anywhere. And for an ethnic breakfast, this is as good as it gets for the DFW, especially when most other popular ethnic groups in the Dallas area pretty much DON'T eat healthy breakfast or drink coffee in the morning (Asians eat soup, Mexicans eat tacos, etc) - don't look at me, you know it's true that breakfast isn't their real forte! And thank god for the Ethiopians, for being the people that gave the world coffee (yes, it originated in Ethiopia) and has some interesting Arabic and Italian influences (after all the Horn of Africa points to the Arabian Peninsula and the area allowed easy access for the Italians to later colonize Eritrea, and maybe further enrich the coffee-drinking culture?). So what to order here... Baklava? Sounds good. Tiramisu with a cappuccino? I wouldn't mind at all. While these are all fine, the real star of the place lies in its menu. FUL, similar to Arabic foul mudammas (mashed fava beans), is made spicier here but they'll happily oblige to put the spicy stuff on the side. But even so, they're well prepared, filling, and great with a side of eggs and french bread. I also in particularly love the quanta firfir which is a spicy stewed mixture of dried beef tidbits with broken pieces of injera bread, and this comes with additional injera. Do I have a preference between the two? No... depends on my mood, but if you come with a dining companion, just order both and enjoy the meal (and good coffee). Staff is both warm and friendly, and surprisingly the patrons are too - as they won't shy to make recommendations as well. The two times I came here, the place was packed, and with people watching the soccer games on television. This place is a MUST for those wanting to experience a true taste of ethnic Dallas, especially for breakfast.

If you love traditional habesha breakfast then you will love this place. They have the best fuul which is made from chickpeas and it is served with bread I have attached a photo so you all can see. It is absolutely delicious!!

I wanted to finish my Ethiopian themed lunch and went to the bakery next to Desta to find dessert. I ordered a machiato and baklava and sat down. It's a very small restaurant/bakery but very cozy. And in the 3 minutes that I was waiting for my drink to be made I saw several people coming in and out picking up their cake and other baked good orders. I liked the buzzing atmosphere and looked around at the food being brought out to different tables. Everything looked awesome. I'd like to eat lunch here one day. Baklava was divine as expected.

This is my other fav place to go after having brunch at Desta restaurant. Their pastries are so delish reminds of the back home, Ethiopia. My favs are the cream puffs, we call it Boksegna, Tiramisu, Yellow cake, and MILLEFOGILE CAKE

This is located a few doors down from Desta. After eating at Desta's I was not impressed with the food or service.

I headed over and this was the first time since the expansion I had seen the updates. It was amazing to see in person. The sandwich options were tuna or chicken pesto and I went with tuna. While I waited for me to go I also got a sweet treat. I got the oatmeal cookie. Everything was so yummy and perfect amount of food. The salad came with a dressing on the side which I think was olive oil and lemon?

Fortunately, if you're not dining in, ordering from the to-go line is very quick, and there's even a comfy seating area in the front where you can enjoy your food and beverages. In addition to a double shot espresso I ordered, I also got a broccoli mac and cheese croissant. The croissant was expensive ($7.50), but it's hearty enough to be a meal. I wasn't offered an option to toast up the pastry, but I didn't particularly mind the coldness of the mac and cheese component of the pastry. The croissant surrounding the filling was flakey with nicely laminated layers. Meanwhile, the filling was satisfyingly salty and rich. Although the pastry was tasty, it's probably something I would only try once -- rather than something I would get regularly, due to how heavy the pastry ate. Overall, if you're looking for skillfully prepared, creative pastries, La Casita Bakeshop definitely fits the bill.

Lauren and her team responded very quickly even with the COVID they are clean, and most helpful to people (me) who isn't even a booked client yet. I explained what we were doing and our wedding date. I was advised to wait maybe 4-6 months out to make an order but they also told me to come pick up sample cakes from Lauren who was live in the flesh! Lol. If you do not recognize this woman you are in the dark. The cakes were wonderful. It was wrapped nicely. I was able to drive from north Dallas back to work 30 mins out and my cakes were still cool to enjoy. The sample cakes she had were 6 pieces along with a card on each flavor. They are definitely on top of this Covid thing. Normally you would be able to come in and try out cakes but they made it possible to enjoy and sample in the comfort of you home. In my case, comfort of my car. Me and my future husband definitely enjoyed them and the taste has us super excited. Only reason I'm not giving them a well deserved 5 stars is because I haven't ordered my wedding cake yet. I review is based on initial email contact, face to face visit and the amazing sample cakes. I'm sure I'll be back to add that last Star in 2021 :)
