I first met this bakery in Irvine, Ca & immediately fell in love. They have a larger store with a wider range of selection in Carrollton but this one is much closer to me. They prepare & cook everything there in the bakery. When a fresh baked item comes out of the kitchen & onto the floor for sale they all announce "fresh bread" which I think is awesome so I can pick up something warm if I want to eat it at that moment. Their coffee & tea drinks have a distinct, delicious flavor that beats any coffee house. The flavor is also strong so if you prefer something more watered down, don't drink anything here. Normally everything is on-point but today was a disaster. 1) No wax paper liners for trays. 2) Hardly anything was in the case except items leftover from yesterday. 3) Cinnamon twists were scorched black. 4) Employees weren't concerned that they didn't have items out -- it was half an hour after opening. 5) The counter employee argued with me about my drink -- ordered the same thing I always get and he said it wasn't possible to make. Ventured out on the morning of the Grand Opening for this location (Richardson). I was 5th in line and before the doors opened, we were greeted by the manager. Once inside the modern, L-shaped cafe- it was a grab and go situation with that fresh bakery smell and the staff bustling to make sure there were plenty of hot pastries. I filled my tray with as many goodies as I could. Everyone who worked there was really personable and excited for the Grand Opening. I will definitely be back to grab some fun pastries and try the coffee bar this time. The lady in front of me got the Sea Salt Jasmine Green Tea and I will be ordering that on my return....looked amazing. Bacon and Cheese - a long pastry with an entire slice of bacon down the middle. Soft bread w a garlic flavor. Calamari Stick - at first glance I wasn't sure what to think as the bread is a deep dark color. The flavor was amazing and again a great garlic flavor. I've been an 85C customer since its US debut in California and glad to see its expanding presence in the DFW area. I much prefer the Richardson location over the Carrollton location mainly due to the crowds. There's always a huge line at the Carrollton store that can take 15-20 minutes. Not here though. Came on a Saturday night and line was minimal to none. Even ordered a drink and was prepared promptly. The size of this branch is smaller but the space designated for their breads is the same, so they offer a good variety of items. Love their wide assortment of products and usually of high quality and freshness. Of note, my favorites are their mocha buns and bacon cheese breads. I think this can be great place to grab breakfast to-go for a group if you want a change of pace from your typical morning donut/bagel run. One major concern I do have is their drink quality consistency. Their coffee is usually solid and I enjoy their iced coffee. I used to enjoy their milk tea boba drinks (good balance in terms of sweetness) but lately they have tasted too watered down with overcooked boba. I hope they can address this issue. This place was close to the restaurant we ate. We wanted to get some tea so decided to stop by. The place was big and clean. Nice place to go with family or friends. They had a lot of selections for pastries and beverages. The milk tea was good and love there premium milk pastry . It's like a sweet bun with cream inside. The only thing I don't like is they have a reward program and you can get points every time you purchase. They don't proactively tell you or ask if you have rewards program with them. I was happy to hear they opened a 85 degrees closer to Dallas proper in the "Chinatown" plaza. (Carollton is a bit far.) I like they Portuguese style egg tarts. I got three of them for a little over $5. It's a bit pricey from regular egg tarts that I've had in other cities, but it's a once in a while type thing. The bakery is self serve and you look at all the different pastries and grab what you want, wait in line and pay. They always have some interesting and delicious sounding things. Their cakes and mini desserts always look good. There is always a long line though, but it's decently speedy. I don't know if they need to individually wrap each pastry in a small bag. There seems to be just enough seating. Lots of patrons appear to take their items to go but you can sit down if chairs are available. The store is pretty open. I went in around 1130am and they didnt sell out and had all the items. This time tried again, my favorite raisin butter, cheese bread, mango bread, I tried a new item bacon cheese bread. Raisin butter- the bread was soft, had netral flavor not too salty or sweet which complimented the filling which was sweet, grainy, had substance with raisins but yet melted in your mouth. Cheese bread has a mild saltier taste on the crust while the inner filling has a moist cream cheese filling which tastes AMAZING! Mango bread/swirl is simliar has light frosting on top, bread is more thicker, with a little more crust, has sort of thicker mango pudding filling with candied orange pieces. this was more filling. I thought bacon cheese bread was alright, saltier crust and bacon and cheese topping. I wish it had some more bacon for how much I paid. Everything is better with bacon Then i wanted to try a hot green milk tea with 1/2 sugar, yes i said right 1/2 sugar after eating all those buns. was alright, was milky with flavor of green tea. I have never been a huge fan of baked goods, but 85C has something for everyone without a gluten intolerance. Of course they have what comes to mind when we think bakery, sweet pastries, cakes and breads. 85C is a Taiwanese self-serve bakery. The hardest part is not putting everything on your tray! When you walk in, you are greeted by individual cases for each offering. Since, it was my first time, I did not know how the operation worked. After scanning the room, I spotted trays, tongs and parchment paper. After figuring out how to open the cases, the hardest part was not getting more than I could bring home. Having my friend Deidra encouraging me to pick out a whole cake for my birthday was not helping. For this trip, I selected a mocha bread, pork sung bun, squid ink corn chicken, egg tart, sea salt coffee brulee and tiramisu. If you think I got too much for one person, you would be wrong. I mean, it is a 3 hour drive to the nearest 85C from my house in OKC. I didn't eat the mocha bread until the next day, it was a perfectly mocha without being over powering. It was a little sticky, but that could have been from making the car ride home. The bread was light and fluffy otherwise. I specifically requested the the pork sung bun, as I had had it a few times before when friends brought me some from their trips to 85C. It was everything I remembered, light fluffy bread, topped with a salty umami shredded pork. Think of shredded jerky. It was amazing. My favorite from this trip is the squid ink corn chicken. It had a salty brininess from the squid ink, sweetness from the corn and protein from the chicken. The bread is black and dense and the brightness of the corn and chicken pop with color. It is just as visually stunning as it is tasty. I think I would prefer the egg tart, had it not made the trip home and been enjoyed in the store. I will try it again, because I love egg custard. Of course the sea salt coffee brulee and tiramisu were perfect, light and creamy. They surprising survived the ride home. They came in a carrying case and sat right next to the AC unit in my car. There are exactly two bakeries I will go out of my way and stand in line to get pastries and 85C is one of them! read more

85C is heaven on earth. The bread is delicious, variety is amazing, and ambience is bright and clean. My favorites are the taro mochi bread and the Portuguese egg tarts. Parking is sufficient. Only drawbacks are the price (you pay a premium to get the best), corporate environment (as its expanded, it definitely feels like a chain), and availability (get in early to get the best selection). I've come to believe that the white powdery substance sprinkled on the top of these cakes is ground up crack cocaine. That would explain why these cakes are so addictive. I'm not a person who likes anything very sweet, so this is a great place for me to be. I had chosen a cappuccino bun, and a strawberry jelly bun. One of my colleagues had chosen the royal chocolate cup, which had three Ferraro Rocher on top. My two buns were slightly sweet, and the bread itself was soft and chewy, fantastic with a hot cup of tea. The strawberry jelly bun was a little more interesting, it was quite hollow inside, with a strawberry cream on the inside. There is also a small area at checkout where you can order some hot beverages, I did not order any to try Service: It was nothing to brag about, it's mostly self service, with a couple of cashiers in the back to wrap your goods when you pay. Each bun that was not already wrapped, will be put into a cellophane bag, before putting into a larger to-go bag with your other goodies.
