I just really love the guy who works the counter at this place. He's incredibly nice. He always has a smile and friendly comment for you. "Good things come in small packages", they say, and the same goes for this small wine & liquor store on the corner of 86th and Columbus. They have a very decent collection of wines and liquors, and the staff is very friendly as well. These guys get it: They understand that customers want A, B, and C to pick from and prompt service. I can literally walk in and out of here in one minute time (since I know what I want anyway... I'm predictable with SOME things!) and that just shows how efficiently this place is run. Half the time that I walk in here, there is some kind of tasting of some kind of liquor or wine going on. Prices are absolutely reasonable. I want to keep this place around so I'll keep buying here as long as my liver allows me to. ; ) PS: I have no clue who Ann B is, who wrote that one nasty review, stating that people at this store were extremely rude when she called. I bought 3 bottles of wine and they charged me for 4 bottles! I don't usually look at the receipt after I signed for my visa card but it seemed very high, so I checked. Wow. I am from Moraga / near Oakland, California and I usually get my wine from Napa or Sonoma. The staff at 86th Corner Wine and Liquor was very helpful and they recommended a Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County--it was exactly how the gentleman described the wine ---round and medium-body. The wine complimented the dinner we had a Frankie's Sputino in Brooklyn. Good value wine for $20 and the staff knew what he was talking about! read more

There are at least three other liquor stores in walking distance from us but we never go anywhere else. The staff are friendly and helpful. The selection is good and the prices are the most reasonable around. We go in person and also have them deliver. We have never had an issue. 86th Corner is the liquor store on our list of neighborhood recommendations to anyone we meet who is new to the block. read more

The people who work here make shopping at this establishment a pleasure. The manager is very helpful and so nice, and the delivery guys are quite friendly - one of them plays with my dogs every time he comes by - needless to say he is their favorite delivery guy in the hood! The manager makes good suggestions on new wines to try and also takes recommendations on carrying new products. After giving this establishment much business over ten years (only out of convenience bc their selection is sub-par), I will never go there or purchase from them again. I was treated rudely and smugly over the phone by Sean who knows me and knows his delivery person made an error. The delivery person doesn't speak English so while he tried very hard to correct a mistake his employer did nothing to help him but berate me on the phone. This store owes me money but since he refused to admit that he made a mistake, he will lose much more money than he took from me today, and I will tell every neighbor I have never to shop there. Stealing from a customer is never OK no matter if it is five dollars or several hundred dollars. I am absolutely disgusted with what transpired today. And to add insult to injury, he blamed the delivery man as he stood at my door and said our monetary differences were ours to work out! There are five other wine stores within a five block radius plus on-line shopping...,who is 86th Corner Wine kidding? read more
