While the selection is limited, the range is pretty wide! I've been here a handful of times and I've spend anywhere from $17 to 28 on a bottle of wine. They have detailed placards above each name, which are quite helpful for the average wine drinker--assuming you know what you want. If you require a little help with deciding, it's rare that there's a ton of customers inside that might stop someone from checking in with you either way. This store is truly amazing. Wine selection is fantastic and also the liquor selection is a little on the small side, it really packs a punch! The owner and the lady, I didnt get her name, really know all about the wines they sell. They invited my friend and I back for more free wine tasting, that they do everyday. We stopped in here after picking up picnic supplies at Zabar's. We were so pleasantly surprised. The wine supply is very curated, so not tons of options, but the signage and limited selection make picking out a bottle of wine way less intimidating. The staff was awesome- they gave us samples, provided guidance & knew we were drinking at the park, so they gave us chilled wine and to go cups. Such a great little wine shop! Totally recommend for those looking for a cheap, but really good bottle of wine-- or looking to learn a bit about the wines. :) read more

Great set-up. This store has a limited curated selection. The wines are organized from sweet to dry and full- to light-bodied. Knowledgeable staff. Tastings most evenings after 5 pm. I discovered this great Bridge Lane rose during a tasting. The main gripe - and cause for fewer stars - is that this store is overpriced. They have few wines below $16 (and there some great options out there), and their wines are marked up compared to at other stores. read more

I like Best Bottles as a rule, but tonight I had a negative experience with an employee who said he was the manager. He objected to something I did or said and, after selling me a bottle of wine, said I should leave the store. He thought, he said that I was "not myself." I was very disconcerted and said to this man, Daniel, that I had no idea why he was treating me this way. I left and wondered how I could return, as he assured me that he was there every day. Whether he is a manager or a clerk, this is poor customer service, and I hope he gets over whatever issue was bothering him. read more

Apparently this store has not had air conditioning for DAYS.  It's easily over 90° in there and the employees look miserable.  Call me a purist, but I would rather not buy wine that's in a bottle that feels like it's been baked in an oven, and I definitely would not want to shop in a place where they clearly don't seem to care about storing their wine safely.  Maybe because they sell mostly low-budget wines?  I left after 2 minutes when I got so hot I couldn't even read their little descriptions. I've liked this place for years and am trying to support every single establishment on Broadway and Amsterdam in the West 80's during these extremely challenging times, but their new no-cash rule has to go. I'm not a wine-tard; in fact, I'm fairly knowledgeable regarding regions/varietals/grape blends/etc that I like. However, even when I'm shopping for something specific, I still like to be edjumacated on other similar wines, because this is how I expand my palate; through suggestions. Yet all this Best Cellars did when I walked in was point me to the shelf that contained the Lambrusco I was after for a gift; no greeting, no offer of the wine tasting of the day, NADA. In stark contrast to the 86th & Lex location, this store is cramped, crowded, and the staff is not as helpful. I don't care if the majority of the bottles are $15 or less - if the customer service is shitty, then your store qualifies as a BOOZE FAIL. read more

I have never purchased a bad bottle of wine here AND it caters to cheap asses like me who don't like to spend more than $15 on a decent bottle. Thank God. They have pruned the selection down to strictly yummy stuff so you don't wind up strolling in the aisles for hours. I managed to find one wine twice, but yeah, they change inventory so you might be SOL if you found a merlot you like. It's easy to take a risk here and get whatever. Where do I begin? This place is one of the best accidents that I've made in a long time. After getting off of the bus on a very hot day in the middle of June, I ran in here to see what I could find that was alcoholic and cold. White wine instantly became the plan. Looking up I found that they had the different types of white wine divided easily for the "everyman" to find what they want. Instant zoom in on some Sauv Blanc. I then found a bottle that I really wanted...only then to find out that it was only $9. I bring it up to the front, thinking of just plopping in some ice to make it cold once I get home. As I'm scanning my debit card for the bottle, she comes back from going to the back with an ice cold, refrigerated bottle of the same wine. My jaw dropped. I never asked...I never thought to ask...and my expectations of this place were more than met. Bravo Best Cellars. I'll see you again very, very soon. read more

They're on my way home, they give free tastings, they're friendly and helpful, they organize their wines by flavor and body, they have cute descriptions of the wines along with recommended food pairings, they have a decent and reliable selection of wines in the $15-$25 range, and they frequently offer discounts on their wine (if you go before noon, you can get the early bird discount- helpful if you are planning ahead for dinner) Some things that keep our relationship from being a "love" instead of just a "like": -the store is a little bit cramped -they rotate their selection frequently, so sometimes if you like something, it's gone by the next time you go -they don't go out of their way to make wine buying easy (no customer loyalty program, no helpful take-home cards or stickers, no system to help you remember what you've previously bought) read more

I've been in here a few times since it opened and found the staff to be helpful and fun. They usually have a few bottles open for tasting which is great because I didn't recognize many of the names they had. The selection is small compared to Beacon, but it's organized by the flavor instead of the region, ie bubbly , fresh, luscious, berry. The prices, I don't think I saw anything more than $20, which is awesome! And they have sampler packs at discounted rates. They also have private wine tasting classes on tuesday. Drink up! read more

When going into any establishment, I expect to be met with a warm greeting and also the employees / establishment to be warm as well. Freezing your employees AND customers to death is not the way to attract business. Just came in here to buy a couple bottles of wine for a friend I'm staying with. They had a wide selection of unique wines all under 25 dollars. One side was reds and the other side was whites. The woman helping me was able to go through all the wines I was interested in and was able to describe all the wines. Everything is tasted before they sell it! My wines were excellently wrapped and perfect to present as a gift. I was in an out in 10 minutes! They apparently have free tastings in the evenings! So that's something I'll definitely have to check out. Great service and now I just hope the wines are delicious! read more

I like their will to continue their tradition of exposing different wines for tasting, even though I feel that the selection is not that varied. Prices are very reasonable, though. The staff is helpful, but their attention tends to decrease as the store gets more and more crowded during the weekend. Hands down one of the best wine place on the UWS. Here's what's so great about this place: limited selection, but VERY CAREFULLY curated. If you're looking for an enormous selection, this probably isn't your place, but if you want a great, inexpensive bottle, this is your place! They probably only have about 40 different wines to choose from, but the magical thing is we've tried about 30 of them and I've only found one that I didn't like, and even then it wasn't half bad. But it's a place that will never be more than a grab a cheapish bottle on the way home, and this sad fact is conveyed in the hostile attitude of the staff. I stopped in on a whim to pick up a bottle of wine to bring to a dinner. I found the staff in general to be very snobby, but not necessarily in a bad way. The man who gave me a quick orientation when I walked in was super helpful, and I really love how they've arranged the store and focused on affordable ($20 and under) wine. They seem to emphasize careful selection of the individual wines and have good descriptions posted. I picked out a bottle based on the description (and cute label), and it turned out to be delicious. I would absolutely return to try out their other selections. Minus one star for the guy at the register who was kind of rude, he seemed dead set on paying as little attention to me as humanly possible. read more
