Brick Road is a local coffee shop with a rail car exterior and surprisingly cozy interior. There are a few rooms for seating, each with a different vibe for different purposes whether you want to read a book, do work, or catch up with friends. It was quite busy on a weekend afternoon but the wait wasn't too long. They have a larger menu than I expected with both drinks and food, as well as coffee beans named after local streets. As someone who isn't a huge coffee drinker, I appreciate their long list of specialty drinks. The cinnamon roll latte and hot honey chicken biscuit I tried were great! A cute coffee shop that's new to me in the Richmond area. Lived in Richmond for 8 years and this opened when I left! I talked a little bit to the owner (I'm assuming) who was sweet and happy to talk about the biz! Love the decor all around, giving a vintage like feel. And it's really spacious inside with plenty of seating to lounge around. When I walked in people were either immersed in their work on the computer or talking to friend(s). Wow! This is the coffee house I wish i could have found years ago. Here's the deal: 1) Unique and cool ambiance with what appears to be various old rail cars pieced together and connected to make a number of different and very comfortable spaces. This makes it feel more cozy, quiet and intimate versus one big, open space. Yes, The restaurant offers outdoor seating ;). 2). Fantastic service with good energy, communication, and a smile! Finally a place where staff actually want to do the job of "service" and offer a very positive air to the experience. So thankful for what staff give here - thank you! 3) I had a very simple drip coffee and it was good! Oat milk and milk offered on the coffee stand along with sugars etc. as a standard. I need to explore more coffee drinks and will be back to post but good so far! 4) I order the John's Special breakfast sandwich. It was actually special. Huge and loaded- literally twice the size I was expecting and easily shareable. No skimping here- you will absolutely get your moneys worth and most importantly it was very tasty. My first experience here was an easy five stars- no question about it. Can't wait to try more on the menu. I came at 9:30 on a Thursday morning and there was a line the entire time I was at the restaurant. I'm always on the lookout for local coffee shops in Richmond, so I was excited to stop in today after seeing the great reviews. This is such a cute coffee shop with a super friendly staff and ample seating. I decided to try the bananas foster latte (I had never seen anything like this before), and ordered a chocolate croissant to go along with it. They offered to heat up my croissant, which was ready about 5 minutes before my drink, so it was no longer warm when I bit into it, but it had a good amount of chocolate inside, so that made up for the delay. The latte was very tasty even though I didn't get too much banana flavor (it tasted more like a caramel latte). In addition to pastries, they also offer lunch items. For the short time I was there, a steady stream of customers came in. I'm adding this to my list of go to coffee shops in Richmond. read more

Came here before hitting the road and it was fantastic! I got a cinnaroll latte Bamd it was absolutely perfect! I also got their hot honey chicken biscuit to eat and it was absolutely delicious. The service was quick and great. They give out free stickers out at the front and they have ample indoor and outdoor seating! They also have merch and their beans for purchase. This is a unique coffee spot in northwest Richmond near Parham Doctors Hospital that has a good amount of space and some delicious specialty lattes. I usually prefer homemade syrups but they did a great job with the Baklava Latte which uses Monin syrups and it had pistachio and vanilla syrup with honey and cinnamon. They offer a drink and a food menu, which also includes an all-day breakfast and lunch. I needed a little caffeine boost, and I ordered one of their seasonal drinks, the PBJ Latte - this came in a generously-sized cup that was hot, creamy, and delicious! The egg sandwich croissant was fair, but the pre-formed egg wasn't very appealing. The scones and baked goods were fresh and sweet and your best bet! I mentioned the egg issue with the manager and he kindly took the time to show me the kitchen and explain why they use these eggs, due to convenience and space. He said they may try to upgrade soon. I came here with friends on a Saturday morning and we enjoyed some coffee and pastries. There were a few people in line but everything moved fast and we were ordered and seated shortly. I had a peanut butter white chocolate latte. My friends ordered some drip coffee and lox bagel. My latte was tasty - not sure about the peanut butter flavor coming through, but it was sweet and delicious nonetheless. My friends liked their dishes as well. I've lived in Seattle, San Francisco, and Charlottesville, and this is by far the most expensive coffee I've ever purchased. Iced shaken espresso for almost $9! It comes with almond milk, which I am allergic to, so I asked to swap for oat milk. I was surprised that even though the drink came with an alternative milk, I was still charged an extra $1. Then I asked them to please go easy on the milk, don't fill the cup the whole way because I wanted it to be coffee forward. Unfortunately, they still filled it to the brim. Bummer. On this visit, I got an iced matcha latte with a little bit a simple syrup and the buttermilk honey chicken biscuit. My drink was made just right, I loved the level of sweet and how well made the matcha was. The biscuit was simple, but its buttery flakiness was supreme. I also enjoyed the honey chicken inside. There is a free parking lot out front of the coffee shop. It's easy to get a spot. They have quite a few outdoor seating options as well as plenty inside. Inside feels like it's sort of divided into three sections, which is nice because you can go to a quieter spot or a more chatty spot. Ordering was easy and they just call you name when your things are ready like most coffeeshops. The baristas were very friendly. Very excited for this new coffee shop being in my area. I'm not a fan of Panera/Starbuck chain type restaurants for a relaxing cup of coffee. There's a large parking lot so there's no concerns looking for parking. When I entered there seemed to be a bit of a crowd but the staff was able to handle all the orders in good time. The counter staff were polite and efficient. All the breakfast type options in the case all looked fresh. The pricing all seemed to be on point. There is a milk and sweetener station so you can control your own levels. There's many seating areas and the tables and chairs are spaced nicely. There's a room with a fireplace and also an outside patio area with tables and umbrellas. While sitting at a table enjoying my cortado and scone a staff member did pass by and asked if I was ok or if I needed anything. The owner did the same during my stay as well. I got a chicken biscuit and a honey latte. The chicken in the biscuit was frozen chicken nuggets slapped in there and a small amount of honey. The biscuit itself was pretty good but all in all it was dry and kind of small. The latte was good! I like the ambiance and the service is great they are very kind. I'd return for coffee but not for a breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich ingredients were strikingly similar to a fast food establishment. I ordered the John's Breakfast Sandwich menu item. It comes on Billy bread. Fair presentation, McDonald's taste profile. The bacon appeared to be the kind that's purchased in a box already fully cooked and warmed to serve, sausage warmed no browning at all, and a round precooked egg patty. The sandwich also described having avocado, turned out it wasn't freshly sliced avocado but more of a mashed avocado spread of some sort. Seems like it may have also come out of a big tub. The sandwich lacked fresh ingredients from every angle, not worth the $12.95 price. I can't speak for the entire food menu here but the breakfast sandwich options should really be revisited to offer more real and fresh ingredients to level up to the coffee selection. It's a really cute coffee shop and I'd love to see the business thrive. Warmed up food isn't going to cut it long term. read more

The patio and the inside of the shop is very well decorated and clean. They offer free WiFi and a bunch of seats! I can see this shop being a good place to work if you're sick of the home office.
