This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Houston! I've been eating at this place for years and it has maintained its high level of food quality! They don't make your food until you order it and it's always fresh! This place was recommended by another person staying at my hotel. Glad he gave me this location to visit, the food was good with plenty to eat. I had the lettuce wraps and they were not as good as the ones at PF Changs but were good. I also had the sweet and sour chicken and it was delicious with white rice and a large bowl of the sweet sauce. My eyes were bigger than my belly, it was enough for two people for the two dishes. Came around 6:30pm on a Monday and was seated immediately. Our waitress never really checked on us beyond our initial drink and food order but another gentleman checked on us every time he passed by. The food was spectacular and the prices were extremely reasonable. My husband's only complaint was the Bud Light tasted like it had been cold and hot quite a few times so he only had one but my Michelob was good. Ehh the Chinese food here was average at best - definitely tasted like typical American Chinese take out food, maybe even a little worse. Everything seemed to be rather cloying - even the egg drop soup which I normally love at most places. My eggplant and chicken in garlic sauce was alright but the sauce definitely wasn't right - again cloying is definitely the right word here. There were some positive notes though. For lunch with a somewhat large group of co-workers, the service was quite fast and we were seated immediately. I would say after sitting we were probably done in 30-45 minutes - including getting the check. The lunch special is also a great deal - some $6-7 for a lunch portion entree, rice and soup, with a 50 cent add on for an egg roll. Definitely good value - I finished the entree (and not about half the rice) but was quite stuffed. 888 Chinese 01/10/18 This was my first visit to this traditional sit down (non-buffet) Chinese restaurant. The reviews I read on Yelp were mostly 5-Star? That made my wife and I encouraged about checking this place out. Upon walking approaching the entrance you are smacked with a delicious aroma of high quality Chinese cuisines. I certainly noticed the Awards wall displayed proudly in the lobby revealing the restaurants stellar accolades over recent years for their outstanding delectable dishes fondly loved by past guest. The dining area is well lighted, with a clean and roomy appearance on a not-to-busy evening for quiet family dining. The fining area is also conservatively decorated with the Chinese Asian theme adding to the obviance. The server that greeted did not seem to into his job so we were not impressed as the reviews said the staff was very warm and friendly--guess I got them on a off night. Additionally I was disappointed that none if the Chinese beer on the menu was available because it hadn't been delivered, so we were not off to a good start. So I opted for hot green Chinese tea--mistake it came just above luke warm in tea bags weak as he**, tasteless. Things didn't get much better with my Egg Drop soup. Although the flavor, texture and taste of the soup was excellent, it was not piping hot as it should have been--bummer:-(. I did not feel like sending it back nor did I call the issue to the servers attention--after all I'm evaluating this establishment. The wife has barbeque ribs. Although the flavor of the ribs we spot-on the meat was chewy, dryish and tough--things steadily going down hill. So, we make it to the main course and B A M! are we in the same restaurant? It was G R E A T!!! My Mrs had the Egg Plant trio in the clay pot and I had the Triple Delight with added asparagus which was also SUPERB! Now we are talking 5-Star quality best in greater Houston (Baytown) Chinese cuisine. I could barely believe we were eating in the same establishment, but we were and now the excellent ratingings given by past guest I read on Yelp all made since. We completed our dining experience with a orange fruit medley topped with a cherry to clean the pallet-nice touch. The 888 would have receive 5-Stars from me on the overall meal had the appetizers been on point regardless of the very so, so server we had. As for price point very good for two people coming in well under $50.00 out-the-door. Over an hour later the food was not delivered and the guy who answered the phone gave me several different stories about why the food wasn't ready or hadn't been delivered.
