Came here because I was looking for salmon poke (a lot of places only have ahi) and was pleased with both the portions and the toppings (lettuce, corn, edamame, avocado) as a lot of places have more rice than fish and only cucumber and lettuce as a topping. We stopped here for dinner our first night in town and went back the next night bc it was so good. The cream cheese wontons are most likely the best we've ever had. We ordered two orders the second night so we didn't have to share. lol I had the drunken noodles both nights. First night with beef and the second night with chicken. I preferred the beef. My husband got the combination poke bowl the first night and the chicken chowmein. He liked both. They were super busy the second night so we waited over 40 minutes for our food. The first night it was only about 5 minutes. There was a nice lighted seating area behind the food truck with picnic tables. Found this gem after arriving late on the island and not having a ton of options. But I'm glad we did! Cool little food truck place with a neat tent out back with lots of lights to keep you out of the rain. We got a ton of stuff, fried rice, drunken noodles, poki bowls and the mahi filet. I've been seeing their sign for a while and finally decided to give it a try. Yelp shows them near Island Craves, but they're actually located right next to the wine shop and directly across from McDonald's. I ordered the chicken satay, pork larb, chicken Thai basil, and mango sticky rice. All were absolutely delicious with generous portions. The chicken satay isn't served on sticks, but the flavor is spot-on, possibly the best I've had on Kauai. The larb was well seasoned with the perfect balance of tanginess and spice. There are tables set up behind the food truck under shaded covers, which makes for a nice spot to eat. The staff was friendly, and my food came out fairly quickly even though they were busy. Local here. This is the best Thai food on the island in my opinion. The curries are unbelievable. I always get it with fried Tofu. I prefer the yellow, but red is also excellent. Chicken satay which is grilled chicken with a peanut sauce is also one of my favorites. Like I tell everyone--it's all good. To be fair I haven't tried the fish or poke. This was my first time here. I usually go to Anattas up the street in Kapaa town, that's been my main Thai spot since I moved to island over 7 years ago... yet this time around, I hopped on Yelp & this spot came up in my feed after searching for Thai, so I decided to give it a go, since it's only a 7 minute walk from my house. First impressions: I stopped by around 5pm, so it was still light. They have a cute little food truck facing the street, tucked back into the small parking area next to a wine/spirits business (the green building). They're facing directly across from the shopping center adjacent to the Safeway shopping center - the one with the McDonald's - & they're relatively visible, so you can't miss them! Service: I walked up & a sweet Asian girl with a big smile greeted me. Right off the bat, friendly service! I already knew what I wanted, so I placed my order & they were super accommodating about the Thai tea.. Tip: make sure you ask for coconut milk if you have a dairy sensitivity, because they usually make the Thai tea with half&half. Vibe: really loved that they have that grassy, small park area with the seating area setup! You can kick off your slippas & enjoy a good meal... even with the street 50 feet away with cars driving by, it still gives a chill feeling that allows you to relax & enjoy your food, either alone or with company. Food: for $35.60, portions sizes were ideal. The yellow curry... OMG. Creamy, rich & the TOFU?! Ok, they don't just cut up tofu & throw it in the pot; they BAKE their tofu, large pieces, so you get this soft crunch & texture, which I LOVED! I finished the chicken satay first & you get quite a bit more chicken than is typical at Thai food spots (definitely NOT complaining there!)... their peanut sauce was also some of the tastiest I've had. Creamy texture with a touch of heat, PERFECT Overall, they deserve the 5 stars. Service with a smile, tasty Thai dishes. No complaints. I'll be back! read more
