We visited for their early dinner prix fixe deal and had a great time there. It's a nice modern looking restaurant on the inside. The place had some crowds but we were still seated immediately. The $30 price fixe deal is pretty good, comes with appetizer, entree, and dessert which is a great value. Everything we had was amazing. Despite loving our entrees, we didn't finish them because the serving sizes were humongous. The meatball and the chicken parmigiana were both cooked really well. My favorite part was dessert. That cheesecake was very fluffy. The whipped cream and the sweet glaze complimented it really well. I have absolutely no complaints or suggestions on how to improve. Everything from the dirty banana to the soups and the desserts were perfect. I would definitely come back. Hostess told us how busy the kitchen was, we were ok with a wait but I asked her if we could get sodas while we waited and she had to check with the bartender. Huh? For sodas? Never experienced that. When we were seated there were 3 open tables. Pepsi and sprite tasted terrible!! Food came out timely but the chix parm and crab cake sandwich were awful. The chicken had an odd taste and the crab cake was the worst I've tasted and that's my go to down the shore. We couldn't finish them. Kids shrimp tastes like fried bread. I stopped for dinner at South 9 for my first time last night. We walked in to a very clean and well maintained bar and resteraunt. The ambiance was warm and fun with a roaring fire place as well as a full size race car on the other. We just ordered two different style burgers both tasted great with home fried chips. My wife loved her drink called a beach bum. The topper of the night was a lovely young lady who was our waitress named Victoria. She was very friendly and mafe our dinnet out even nicer. South 9 is lucky to have her. We our going to make this a regular stop from now on. read more

The Travesty Of House-Made Crisps There was a time in our not so recent past when a burger ordered in a restaurant came with french fries. At some point, restaurant owners realized they could serve potato chips instead and make even more money by up-charging for fries. In most cases, they bought the chips in bulk and tossed a handful on the plate. Some places got even cheaper, throwing an actual bag of chips on your plate, which contained an amount of chips that if placed on the plate would certainly be questioned, but because they are pre-portioned elicit no response. This could all be explained by simple economics. Even a bad restaurant is an incredibly difficult endeavor, hard to make successful in the best of circumstances. A good restaurant is harder, and a great restaurant is practically an impossibility. But still, there are some choices that elude me. It all starts with homemade potato chips. I'm sure there was a chef at some point that thought, "I'm not going to serve mass produced chips. I'm going to make my own and everyone will be so impressed." Then a bunch of restaurant owners thought, "This is a great idea. We can pretend that even the potato chips are special. So chic." Here's the deal. House-made chips suck. They're not better than Lays or Ruffles. They're not even better than the stuff they used to buy by the case. They're somehow both hard and soft, crunchy and chewy, stale and slightly undercooked. It's almost incomprehensible. They're not salty or crisp. It's like eating a stale bagel that's been sliced into slivers. The problem with South 9 Bar & Grille is that their fries aren't any better than their chips. They both suck. They very clearly don't make their fries so I am left to wonder if they don't buy these horrible chips as well. I simply don't understand the thought process. If I was opening a restaurant, I would start with the fries and work my way out. If you serve amazing fries, no one will remember the rest. It's the one thing you can, and should, be known for. But if you're going to serve potato chips, just give us the good stuff. Stop pretending that a dehydrated potato is the same thing. read more

i was excited to find a brick oven pizza restaurant b/c you normally can't go wrong. But this proved me wrong sadly. I ordered 2 large pizza's- total $42. i've never had a bad pizza in my life until now. It was tasteless, sloppy, the Margherita pizza tasted like Ragu sauce with very little topping, the buff chix pizza had 4 large blobs of blue cheese dressing on top of it, it was awful. The only thing that was good was the brick oven crust. My kids said they'd rather have a bowl of ramen than finish the slice. It's an easy thing to fix so i hope they can figure it out. Sunday, March 29 around 2:30 my husband and I stopped at 9 South for a late lunch and sat at the bar. I ordered a cheeseburger medium well. It arrived very well done. The french fries weren't cold but they were not hot and "rubbery." The food was delivered when I was in the bathroom. I sat for a bit waiting for the bartender to come back so we could ask for silverware. I took ONE bite and found that the roll was hard. I informed the bartender and asked for it to be taken off the bill. She took it to the kitchen, returned and said, " I'll take it off the bill but the roll was not stale." I again told her "Yes, it was" and she snapped back "No it wasn't." I then told her that she shouldn't argue with a customer. Because I ate about 5 of the fries she did not take the up-charge of $4.00 off the bill but did take the burger off. My husband had the Lobster Roll and he said it was OK but, nothing he'd get again. This place really hit the spot after a long day in the heat. The place is relatively large, with a bar side and a dining room side. There is also a large function room. Unlike most large restaurants, this place wasn't as loud and echoey like some which was nice. It's decorated with a cool kit car, motorcycle and various other collector items by the owner. My pasta dish was huge and balanced well flavor wise. I added the chicken for some extra protein which was a great move. A bad experience from the moment we walked into the establishment. We had a burger that was $15.95. $4.00 for French Fries. On the bill we were charged $22.00. We had another burger ($15.95) WITHOUT French Fries and we were charged $22.00 for that also. The music was so loud we had to talk very very loud to hear one another. This is not a night club! We had 3 small children with us. They brought their food 1/2 hour before the waitress came over to take our main entree order. By the time our order came the children were completed their meal and getting very tired. It was as a very very bad experience! Over all it was a positive experience... we came at 5pm on a Friday and there was no wait - however within a half hour - there was a line. Our server was friendly but not attentive. Food took over 35 minutes to come out - during this wait time - the server never came back to our table - we were out of drinks and had to ask twice for refills. Finally she brought over a water pitcher. Food was hot and fresh. They charge you 50 cents per condiment (ketchup is free) - not a big deal but get a couple ranches and it can add up quickly. Portions are not hug - however everyone enjoyed there meal. French fries are $2 up charge and side salad or onion rings $3... There was live music. White, pasty, flavorless "pizza". $21 for 6 shrimp, canned clams and low budget cheese. $15000 pizza oven over there, and can't make pizzas. $2 wings? Canned soup? Mind boggling. I'm actually confused how someone who has zero idea how to hire real cooks and purchase decent ingredients, opened a restaurant. Went to this very massive restaurant, bar, and event venue tonight. Food is not bad, just not great. Tastes like the Aramark truck stopped off, food was fried, and sent to your table. Had the burger, Memphis hot chicken, and cheesesteak egg rolls. I honestly don't think any of the food was prepped on site. (Even the onion rings tasted like they came out of the freezer to the frier.) Please consider making your own fresh food. read more

If this review was on the look, decor, cleanliness and server, it would be 5 stars. But I can say I've not had a worse serving of mussels in my adult life. Small portion, small mussels, and what tasted like canned marinara sauce. As my photo shows, there was 10 mussels total in the appetizer portion for $13. If you're a mussels fan, and like larger-sized mussels and a large portion, go to Nino's a mile North. My mother's cheesesteak included maybe a half-piece of provolone, and despite me making it very clear she wanted EXTRA fried onions, of which I said I would gladly pay for, it came with an embarrassingly small amount. My brother can't do cheese so his Hawaiian-style brick over pizza contained no cheese. You'd figure since we still paid the full price as if it had the regular compliment of cheese, although it had none, maybe they could have made sure the cheesesteak was cheesy. Lastly - I had picked-up a menu in July for my mother to have at home since she lives closeby. On that menu the hamburger was $10, and the fish and chips entree was $12. On the menu tonight, the burger is now $13 and the fish and chips....33% more at $18! WTF? Again, the curb appeal is fantastic. And, it's always nice to see a new business do well, which I hope they will. But based on the food quality and prices, I don't see it happening. read more

I was in the restaurant business for many years and heard folks state they were the Manager, Chef or Owner but never heard someone call themself the "OPERATOR" We stated the Pork chop and spinach was quite salty and the Linguini and Sausage seemed more like soup than an entrée. He seemed put off by this information and left our table without a remark. Our waitress was very nice and asked if we wanted something taken off the bill but we stated that was not the reason for our remarks. First time ever at this attractive newly renovated dining spot. Bar and Grille is an apt description. Next time might sit at large well appointed bar. We sat in large comfortable booth on the bar side of restaurant. Menu is appropriate for the style of 9 South. Our server Luther, was excellent, service was prompt and intuitive. Steamers and calamari were both great. I still have calamari served with a wonderful aioli plus capers to heat up. It was very generous serving. For the brave, cherry peppers are usually served with the calamari as well. Hubby had spinach salad which was good although not served with the traditional hot bacon dressing. His crispy pork with linguini entree was tasty and also a generous portion. I would give 4 1/2 stars if it was an option. Needless to say, we will be returning to 9 South. read more

We decided to come here on a cloudy Saturday for a late lunch, because every restaurant on 7MI was packed. It was definitely a good decision. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. We sat at the bar and were served immediately. I ordered the cheese steak egg rolls, which were pretty good. My brother and his gf got the sliders and chickens wings, and both really liked them. Wait staff and hostess staff are always pleasant and efficient, however, the wings are horrible when asked why so dried out and horrible they said they now prebake in oven then stick in fridge and when orders come they throw in fryer and toss in some sauce they are so dried out and tough to eat don't recommend!! I ordered the chicken picatta. It's one of the most expensive entrees. It's $26.95 and you get smaller strips of chicken but chicken picatta should have an evident buttery and caper flavor and somewhat thicker. This was very watered down. Very little caper flavor coming through. I was just at at the Lobster House and had the chicken Francaise. It's very similar to the piccata but no capers. There it is only only $26.00. The atmosphere there is beautiful with the water, docks and boats but more so the food quality. You get with your entree a loaf of in house delicious onion bread and butter,, side salad, 2 small side dishes and a large entree which is a huge piece of chicken. That is so much a better value and the chef and cooks there do a good job. I think if youre going to compete in this market, you don't have the view so make interior great, and the food portions and quality better to compensate for the lack of atmosphere. read more
