Took my wife and son out and upon entering we were seated then greeted by our waiter Rob, who we have not had as a waiter the handful of times we've been previously. He had a great personality and actually struck up friendly conversation which many waiters and waitresses do not do. Aside from the friendly conversation, he was amazingly attentive and helpful. Glasses never made it less than half full. We notice the menu will change with the seasons and we tried some new items. My wife had a spinach tagliatelle with a truffle cream sauce and I had the spicy rigatoni. If you like spice get that but beware because the Calabrian chiles aren't for the faint of heart. Came here after work on a Friday with some work friends. Spent a couple hundred dollars between drinks and food and we were enjoying ourselves. Food was great service was great, felt a bit rushed, the waiter came over and said that the manager wanted us to leave if we weren't going to order anything else because they needed the table. We really appreciate our Waiter/Bartender Rob remembering us on our second visit. He made our cocktails perfectly. I like a nice Bourbon Manhattan and Rob introduced me to a Black Manhattan made with Averna Amaro instead of Vermouth. Excellent! Cool vibe, relaxed, clean, great decor. Food tastes amazing but they make you feel super rushed. I purposefully try to order our appetizers first and wait to order the main course to avoid situations like this. We ordered a pizza as an appetizer and shortly after ordered our main course. Before I could even grab a slice of pizza, the salads arrived. When the main course arrived, the pizza was not half completed and I had maybe a bite or two of salad. The table was completely full of plates and dishes it was almost uncomfortable to eat. Was a regular at this place but recent experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Called in to order, was left on hold for TWENTY MINUTES before I decided to just drive there. I expected the place to be packed to the brim only to find the parking lot empty. I walk in and the hostess immediately comes over asking how I am to which I reply "Well, I was just left on hold for twenty minutes." And she had the audacity to apologize by saying the restaurant is busy! As if I couldn't see for myself! The best part is when I asked how long the food would take, she said "10 min." We came for dinner after our kids dance recital in the area on a late Sunday afternoon. We didn't have a reservation and our group of 6 was seated right away. The restaurant overall was wonderful. We enjoyed friendly and fast service. The waiter was very attentive and paid attention to every detail. The interior design was very pleasant and modern. But food was what really made this restaurant. We had a pretzel and a special buffalo calamari for an appetizer. Delicious! Everyone's dish was excellent. The sauces and the flavors are spot on. We live 30 min away but I definitely see us coming back. Now, one thing that was confusing was the entrance and the name of the restaurant. Food here is always fresh and flavorful Always crowded yet you never have to wait for a table and workers there always have a smile on their face. Even with them being renovated and no pizza being made because of it the place was packed. A couple of weeks ago my husband and I had to be in the Mahopac area. Before heading back home, we decided to have lunch in the area. So, we searched Yelp for a good place to eat. 901 Wood Burning Kitchen & Bar caught our attention and we decided to try it. It was definitely a great decision! Not only was the food amazing, but our server Rob sealed the deal. He was very knowledgeable and introduced us to a signature cocktail that has kicked up my husband's usual order from a Manhattan to a Black Manhattan which switches up vermouth with Averna Amaro...game changer. The pizza was exactly the way we ordered it (well done...CHARRED) and exactly the way we like it. The dining room was very comfortable and we never felt rushed We had such a wonderful experience that today we decided to take the hour drive to have that experience again. This time we took photos and wanted to broadcast it to anyone that was interested. Not only did Rob remember our names, but he also remembered our order! Amazing! After one visit! Finally was able to have dinner at this fine establishment the ambiance of the establishment was beautiful and very clean. The service was great and prompt as well. My daughter loved the chicken parmigiana and spaghetti. Our side salads were very tasty. My chicken scarp was very tasty and enjoyable however I do have one concern. When It arrived it was not hot and I have to say I was a little disappointed since I feel it was not made to order rather it was leftovers that was heated up. The sausage was too hard and cold and when it arrived from the kitchen the sauce had a film over it like it was sitting over the hot lamp. I even asked for no potatoes and there were a couple of potatoes in the meal which made me believe even more that it was leftovers preheated. It would have been very upsetting and would have sent back however the meal was tasty enough to pass. I just hope food is made to order rather than preheated. The spinach was great and I really enjoyed it. I am happy to try again and I will order the same meal to confirm. I could not give the place five stars because of the chicken scarp. read more

I'm very thankful that upon arriving without a reservation on a Friday night, they were able to seat the five us with very minimal wait. For that (alone), I'd give them five yelp stars. However, the service was very very very slow. It took awhile before a server even approached our table and even longer for them to bring water or our drinks over. I ordered the mango margarita and couldn't finish it, it tasted mostly like mango juice and not much else. We got the solo carne pizza to start, and it was just alright. For my entree, I got the burger and it was on the rubbery side, and when I asked to switch to the truffle fries, they failed to mention that they would be removing the onion rings. The truffle fries were incredibly thin and very very salty -- I should have just kept the original fries and onion rings that come with the burger. Super clean bathrooms (amazing hostess) and great ambiance, just wish the food had been tastier and the service faster. read more

We arrived with a party of 4 with two 5-6 week old infants. We didn't have a reservation and it was Friday night. The parking lot was full and I was expecting to be turned away. Initially, this was the case as we were told they were fully booked before 8:30 (we arrived at 7). About 3 minutes later as we were still standing there trying to figure out a plan B, the hostess approached us and told us just to wait 10 minutes and that she'd probably be able to seat us. We really appreciated this and we were seated shortly after. The food here is delicious. To me, it is very good modern Italian food. I had the deconstructed lasagna and it was amazing. I loved the presentation of this dish with the fire roasted ricotta plopped right on top. It was so good that I think I now prefer my lasagna to always be deconstructed like this. The other dinners at the table were the short rib ravioli, the Novecento burger, and one of the pizzas. Everything was excellent, even the burger. I also treated myself to one of their cocktails, The Novecento, which is basically just a Manhattan. It was pretty good and I think it was only $9. Besides the delicious food, the service is top notch. The staff was extremely friendly, and you can tell everyone here hustles and is on top of their game. It is still a relatively new restaurant, but on a busy Friday night when there wasn't an empty seat In the house, there didn't seem to be any kinks to work out. Overall, Novecento is a terrific addition to this community. It is the type of place you'd find in White Plains or another city or town with a thriving restaurant scene, but here it is making headway in quiet little Shrub Oak. We have been waiting to try Novecentos for some time now and made reservations for dine in on Friday night. We are both Bronx born and raised and were hoping for an experience reminiscent of our favorite Italian spots in Throggs Neck and Morris Park. Reservations seem to be a must - when we arrived there was a line to the door, but we were seated immediately at a small corner table on the wood-burning stove side of the restaurant (the other side is where the bar is located). We found the lighting on this side to be a little too bright for a dinner - perhaps more appropriate for pizza with the kids. The lighting on the other side seemed to be dimmer, so next time we will request to be seated there. This side of the restaurant was also very cold. I think this was due to the location of the front door. Adding a vestibule would keep some of that chill out and make dining in a little more pleasant. Even my husband, who's a shorts all year kinda guy, found himself cold while we were eating. Definitely bring a sweater! After a few minutes our server, Chris, brought bread to the table and took our drink orders. There is a decent beer menu here, featuring popular brews and local favorites. I think they would benefit from having a beer menu on the wall. Although our server was very knowledgeable and able to list their entire beer menu, it was hard to hear him over the general restaurant noise. After our drinks arrived we ordered appetizers - Blistering Shishitos and a Bar pretzel. The bar pretzel is enormous and the sauces served with it are perfect. The honey mustard was delicious and savory and the maple bacon was pleasantly sweet. They complimented the pretzel very well. The shishito peppers were also flavorful and delicious, although overcooked. As a very big fan of this pepper - they should be cooked until bright green and just blistering, this way they still have a little bite and crunch to them. These peppers were extremely soft and definitely lost a little bit of their flavor, but overall the seasoning was good and we finished the entire order. For dinner I ordered the Linguini Nero Pescatore while my husband had the Deconstructed Lasagna. We also ordered a Cauliflower Steak. The Linguini was delicious - probably some of the best I've ever had. The seafood was extremely fresh and perfectly cooked. The pasta was also nicely cooked and the sauce was light and fresh. I finished my entire plate - something the rarely happens! I would return just to eat this. My husband enjoyed the lasagna and the presentation was very nice with the fire roasted ricotta on top. He also enjoyed the sauce and felt the noodles were cooked well. The cauliflower steak was also a huge hit. I took this home to share with my mother and we both agreed we could easily enjoy this as a dinner. I don't eat meat often, and sometimes struggle when I'm out to eat - this is an amazing vegan options that will not leave you disappointed at all! The cauliflower was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The kale, olives and tomatoes were a delicious touch and overall the flavors blended perfectly. I only wish this was on the lunch menu as well, because I could certainly see myself eating this any time of the day! For dessert we had the cannoli dip and the peanut butter mousse. The mousse was light and fluffy and very tasty. Lots of peanut butter and chocolate, but the dessert was not overly sweet or rich, making it the perfect end to a heavier meal of pasta. The cannoli was also delicious and not overly sweet tasting. The flavor and consistency was really good, on par with some of our favorite Italian bakeries. Overall the food was really excellent. We are genuinely excited about this restaurant and plan to be regulars! Looking forward to trying the pizza next time! read more

Solid 4 - not a 5, but certainly not one iota below 4. Always room for improvement. An excellent addition to the Shrub Oak area. The bar area is a great choice for small groups. Service is fast, attentive, and always willing to engage on menu choices or drinks. Our bartender was very knowledgeable about his stock, and how to steer decisions towards a specific taste. Food is great. Drinks need to be tuned up a bit (chocolate syrup is not chocolate bitters, and should be addressed as such on the menu). Lots of regulars it would seem. Burrata was wonderful with heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil. The short rib ravioli was a decadent treat of creamy mushrooms, caramelized onions with meaty ravioli. Cocktails are reasonably priced.
