Recently visited after some restaurants re-opened. No more buffet bar. The food is brought to you. I had the Original Shabu $9.99 which was mostly vegetables, fish cakes, tofu, dumplings, etc. The serving size was huge. It was not a problem asking for more food if there was something you want. I asked for more tofu and dumplings. The sauces are now made by them. So you can't make it yourself. The soup choices are now only 2: original or spicy. This place has seriously won me and my husband over... men typically dont like shabu because they think its not much food but speak no further.. this place is a shabu buffet. Its the perfect place to take your complaining man and let him eat to his hearts content. ;) They have such a wide variety of vegetables (spinach, napa cabbage, mung bean sprout, watercress, lotus root, carrot, broccoli, sliced potato, sliced sweet potato, black fungus, variety of mushrooms, zuccini, tomato) and also a wide variety of starches ( several types of noodles, rice cakes, dumplings, tofu, flavored dough niblets) as well as sausages, fish cakes, crab sticks, and hot food such as pastas and spicy rice cake and even soups. Im pretty sure I missed a couple things... but you get the gist.. theres a lot to choose from. The sauce bar is pretty awesome. Many choices and plenty of cilantro for meee. They have 2 kinds of creamy sauces which is v cool. They even offer several kinds of broth, dashi- which is anchovy broth, the spicy dashi - comes with spicy radish to put into your dashi broth, beef bone, and vegetable. They offer 2 kinds of pricing, but both give you unlimited access to the buffet and as much broth as you want. 1. You can just get the buffet only. The meats are not included as part of the all you can eat, but you can order them a la cart. This is only somewhere from 13-15/pp plus i get the brisket which is like 4$ per plate. 2. AYCE everything. Buffet, unlimited meats included. Best of both worlds. If you can eat in large quantities this is the option for you. Keep in mind that you choose these options as a group (whoever is in your party), which means if you want ayce meat then your whole table needs to get it as well. The only thing I wish they would change is that the hot bar with the pastas and spicy rice cakes close at 8:30PM each day... we usually dont get to enjoy this much because of the timing... If you pay with credit card, beware. They wrote in their own tip that was 50% of the bill on top of pocketing $150 cash tip (25% tip). My $600 bill ended up being $1100 + $150 cash tip. Even after contacting them twice, the manager avoided me and disputing with my credit card, they provided a fake fabricated credit card receipt to my credit card company with a fake signature giving themselves over a $300 tip on my credit card. If you do go here - DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD. Honestly, never have I ever experienced such a bad experience and customer service and I've lived and dined in Atlanta for 3 decades. For $30 you get tons of veggies along with fish cakes and some meats. They have a few noodles and fried rice included with the $30. I've never been to any of the 9292 Korean BBQ restaurants, but since I've only heard good things about them, I had high expectations for 9292 Shabu. It's a buffet-style shabu shabu place - the first of its kind that I've been to. If you're a vegetarian or pescatarian, I think you'd love this place because of the many veggies and processed seafood items available on the buffet. If you're a meat lover like me, I honestly think places like J's Mini Hot Pot or Mini Hot Pot Deluxe are better. Why? Because you get a bigger portion of meat and plenty of veggies for a set price. At 9292 Shabu, you pay a price for the buffet ($9.99 lunch on weekdays; $12.99 dinner, weekends, and holidays) plus any a la carte proteins you get (between $3.99 to $8.99 per order) - unless you go for the all-you-can-eat (AYCE) meat option ($24.99 at lunch; $29.99 or $34.99 dinner, depending on the options you want). Personally, I generally tend to avoid buffet places for the cleanliness factor and don't need an unlimited amount of meat for shabu shabu, but the portion you get a la carte at 9292 Shabu is pretty small. Buffet Pros: - It looks surprisingly clean and well-maintained for a buffet setup! - The spread is large and has pretty much every type of vegetable that you would typically want/expect to have with shabu shabu or hot pot, and all of the produce looks fresh. - There are things like fish balls, fish cake, imitation crab meat, hot dogs, and frozen mandu (dumplings) if you aren't a vegetarian but don't want to get protein a la carte or AYCE. - If you love noodles, you'll appreciate the variety they have available. - There are hot, ready-to-eat food items, like fried rice, japchae (Korean sweet potato noodles), spaghetti with meat sauce, and creamy pasta. Buffet Cons: - Service is not good and unfriendly. There are buttons at each table that you need to press anytime you need anything - even refills of water or broth. I didn't order any of the a la carte seafood items, but they ranged from Green Mussels ($3.99) to Scallops ($6.99) and Blue Crab ($6.99). Overall, 9292 Shabu gets 3 stars for their good vegetarian/pescatarian buffet. I've dined there twice - not by choice - and liked how clean the buffet looked both times, but I didn't like the portion sizes of the a la carte meat and poor, unfriendly service. Sat dinner price is $25 (adult and kids over 10). Absolutely not worth it. Bone broth or spicy broth is $1 more. All the side meat prices are up. $13 for thinly sliced ribeye. I think it was like 8 slices. The AYCE price is now $40. Go to the many other restaurants in the area that have decided not to jack up their prices. Great AYCE Shabu Shabu place. I had no idea this place existed until recently even though I've been to their Korean BBQ several times. The selection of vegetables, noodles, and hot sides in their buffet is plentiful. I particularly enjoyed the various noodle options The selection of meats is also solid with 5 or so broth choices including a couple of spicy ones. I had the Spicy Vegetable broth. AYCE has gone up to 41$ with the portions they bring out for seafood are little. The managers didn't let my friend sit and order alcohol without buying a meal. When we said we understand and he was about to leave since he didn't want any food, suddenly they say he can stay as long as he doesn't eat any food. After that the waitress was rude and giving us attitude. We offered for him to leave, if it was such a big deal they should have said so instead of giving us bad service. Waitress slapped the bill on the table and walked away. We had to ask for everything, she never came to check in on us. It wasn't busy it was a Tuesday. I will not be coming back, the manager never came to talk to us so the waitress had to keep coming back and forth. Waitress also forgot my drink and after asking her for it she said give me a few minutes. But the drink is in a can, so shouldn't take long. But since it was soda and not alcohol she doesn't care since it's not expensive. My friends alcohol came out first. At the end the waitress said "next time you have to pay for all 3" like? It just rubbed me the wrong way. Bad service and small seafood portions NOT coming back. Plus the kitchen closes at 9/9:30 but the restaurant says it stays open till 11. Very weird . read more

If it were closer, I'd probably frequent this restaurant more often. It will also be helpful to know that this restaurant isn't exactly beginner friendly, but it's not hard to get adjusted and familiar with how their system operates. The restaurant can be a little tricky to find, if you're facing Kroger, it's around to the side of the plaza on the right. The first thing you'll notice when you arrive is the size of the restaurant. It's a lot bigger than most Shabu or Hot Pot restaurants, but once you enter the building you'll understand why. There is plenty of seating for family sized seating, as well as rooms for larger parties. The amount of options and ingredients can feel overwhelming, but you notice that most of the items are mirrored on either side of the buffet line. The most challenging part of this whole process will be how would you like your sauce. The sauce station is set up so that you can make your own; however, there's minimal instructions on what ingredients will work best with the style you'd like. Once you have all your ingredients and you've told the server on which broth you'd like (as well as any meat or a la carte options), you're on your own from here. There are servers constantly roaming around -- clearing tables, refilling drinks and broths, and anything else that you'd need them in order to have a pleasant dining experience. Don't be afraid to buzz the buzzer to get their attention if you need something more immediate. As I mentioned before, if this place were closer to home, I'd probably come here a lot more often. You order you broth, then have unlimited supplies of vegetables, soups, sauces, etc.. It is set up like a buffet. The meat choices are limited on the buffet but you can order meat at an additional cost. I am a big meat eater but have been fine with the normal buffet set up. The price is fairly cheap. Wow. They did it again. I'm impressed. Just when I thought I've experienced all the types of Korean BBQ or shabu shabu styles there are I visit 9292 Shabu and am blown away by their quality, flavor, and execution. Came here with family not expecting much but was wowed by their setup and selection of vegetables, mushrooms, korean side dishes such as ddeokbokki and japchae, noodles, fish cake, and sauces. The part that amazes me is that all the veggies and sides are unlimited for a very reasonable set price. The meats are ordered a la carte unless you opt for unlimited meat option. Being that I prefer vegetables over meat I chose to purchase meats per order and was very well pleased with the decision. The sauce bar was very unique and creative since you are allowed to make your own shabu shabu sauce. Being that the veggies and sides were self serve and unlimited it made it very convenient and hassle free since there was no wait or calling for a waiter to provide these items for you. I like how each of the sides, noodles, sauces, and veggies had an english sticker next to them so non-Korean speakers could easily identify what the items were. 9292 shabu definitely seems like they have the winning combination here and is just another fine addition to their already successful chain of korean bbq restaurants. I hope they will stay consistent and continue to provide excellent service for many years to come. The environment is a bit loud with kpop and many tv monitors scattered throughout their dining area. This might be the only negative I could think of.. too loud and too many tvs. But that point is arguable, so no minus stars for that. Went for an early dinner on a cold Sunday evening and the place was packed to the brim with Korean folk old and young. Due to the heavy influx of people, service was a bit spotty and the young guy helping us out was so over it. He asked what types of broths we wanted without even presenting us a menu. Luckily for us, we had some other folks popping in and out to serve us, and they were much more pleasant. I'm dismissing the first guys' bad service because, honestly, I can't blame him. I'd be annoyed, too! (Which is why I am not in the service industry.) Onto the food. I'm personally a veggie lover and for $13 all you can eat vegetables (with a smattering of hot foods, and some imitation meats like fish cake and "sausage" (it's a really pink hot dog that is most definitely not 100% beef)) and a veggie broth option, it's a great deal. You really can't beat endless versions of squash, cabbage, mushrooms, rice cakes, etc!). I was really digging all the various types of noodles they provided, because I also love carbs. I only wish the signage was a little more clear on some items, such as the dumplings. Were they vegetable? Pork? Shrimp? There was only one way to find out ... *noms*. (I think they were veggie.) The facility was clean and modern with plenty of booth seating and some rooms in the back with more private dining. Our group was a party of 8 and although we scored a back room, we were at two separate tables and pretty far from each other so it's not the type of restaurant I would recommend for big groups. The vegetable buffet set up in the middle of the restaurant is one giant bar, so you do have to walk around the entire setup to get to the other side. I wouldn't have planned it that way, but no biggie. More calories to burn to walk around I suppose. The sauce bar is awesome! Lots of different bases like ponzu, peanut, chili, etc. with a huge array of toppings. I overdid it on the minced garlic and paid the price dearly for that. (Or rather, my companions did.) Other hot pot places give you seemingly mounds of food - but when you take away the bok choi, the spinach, what are you left with? Not much, because those veggies are so large they make it look like you have a lot. Now, here at 9292, you can get UNLIMITED anything! Like come on, that's awesome. If you a metric ton of enoki mushrooms (because I do), then you can. Don't like that gigantic piece of taro or sweet potato they give you at other hot pot places? Well now you don't have to eat it because you can choose what you want! If you want meat or seafood it costs extra, but honestly you can make a quite hearty meal with the arranged foodstuffs. Plus there's hot dogs. And crab sticks. And tofu. If you're on a budget, this place is for you! The only minor quip is the layout - if I want to get up and get more food, I have to make my neighbor get up, which frankly is very mild but still frustrating at times. Also when I was there, it seemed understaffed, with only 3 or so waitresses serving the entire establishment, which meant flagging them down for water. I came with 3 others, and when I asked the waiter about the allergies, he simply said, "if you don't want an allergic reaction, don't eat anything." Listen, I know it's hard for restaurants to serve food to someone with food allergies, but people with food allergies didn't CHOOSE to have these allergies. They deserve to eat out every now and then, especially if they're out with multiple other people who don't have any allergies. McDonald's is more compassionate. Let that sink in. I won't be back. The service, aside from that, was lackluster. The food was okay. The pasta was really random. No other opinions, really.
