-service is friendly! -you can ask to make broth spicier -the best budaejjigae dish in Atlanta -the steak dish was surprisingly flavorful and the meat was tender -donkatsu was good too--crispy and portion size was sufficient -great for sharing! -lots of add-in options and other food items if you don't want jjigae

I was traveling in this area with my friend. And my friend recommended me this place. Glad that I stopped by this restaurant. I loved to eat Budaejjigae. My one of Budaejjigae restaurant in LA Korea town but these days I wouldn't eat there because tastes changed. This place much better than LA restaurant. Tastes like real Korea food! Nothing like American Korean food. Cheap and great quality. Small restaurant and clean. Emo was super kindly. Service was great also easy parking. I will definitely stop by this restaurant again if I have travel in this area. I will recommend anyone!

Small budae jigae (for 2 people)

Budaejjigae, also known as army stew, is a spicy stew with spam, weiner sausages, kimchi, rice cakes, mushrooms, and bean sprouts. You can add other toppings (eg, ramen, udon, tofu, cheese, extra sausages etc) for an additional cost. Each table on the sides of the restaurant is in a private cubicle-like space and comes with a portable stove top as the stew is kept hot while served. The small is perfect for 2 people. The staff was super friendly.

Bally definitely stepped their game from the first time that I tried this restaurant. Located in the Assi plaza in Suwanee, Bally is definitely a great spot to go to for some quality good budaejjigae. They offer 3 sizes (small, medium and large) and honestly the small can be good up to 3 people. The buddaejjigae already comes with sausages, ham, and rice cake and you have the option to get additional toppings on it as well for an extra cost. taste wise has definitely improved since the first time I've been here. Taste wise it is very delicious has a good amount of spice without the overwhelming taste of MSG. Definitely will be back here during the winter months. Staff is friendly and they have good amount of seats for in person dining. They even do to-go orders as well and you can heat it up for a bit at home. Ample parking but can get busy during rush hour.

I came here on a chilly Saturday evening. We went shopping next door at Assi and then planned on coming here to warm ourselves up before heading home. And what we got was a specialty of budaejjigae. If you don't know what that is, it's pretty much a spicy stew with ramen, spam, and veggies. It's filling and the preparation here was definitely different. The size was big, but I thought it was perfect for 2 people. Of course with every meal there's a lot of banchan to go along with the meal, pretty standard. The service was wonderful, it wasn't too busy though. The staff was super friendly. Inside you had a lot of private space in the main dining room as everything was closed off. Thanks to COVID era, that didn't quite leave the restaurant along with the restrictions. Overall, I could definitely come back here. There are other places where I can get budaejjigae though that are probably closer but if you're in the area this is definitely a place to try out.

Delicious Budaejjigae (Army Stew). Friendly, attentive service, plenty of banchan refills.

This place is located in a strip mall, and has tons of parking. One of my favorite restaurants to get a big bowl of heart soup filled with lots of vegetables and ingredients. We ordered the budaejjigae also known as army stew. It had heaps of spam, sausages, bean sprout, rice cake and beans. We also additionally added the ramen noodles for $2. This dish also comes with the traditional pot rice. The soup was spicy, savory and hearty. The service was amazing! The spam and sausages were already pretty filling. The ramen noodles were also a great addition because they really soak up all the flavor and was so good. Our server gave us apron to wear so we wouldn't dirty our clothes, came to refill our banchan multiple times and she even came to add more soup to our pot. Overall, I highly recommend trying army stew if you haven't.

This is my second time coming here, and both times I've had consistent service and food quality. I ordered the 2 serving budaejjigae with ramen and tofu. It also comes with rice and some side dishes, and the total was around $35. Once you order and they bring everything out, they place the pot of budaejjigae on an electric stove, but it is ready to eat. It is just for it to cook more and to keep it hot. It's not too spicy, and comes with a lot of toppings like kimchi, bean sprouts, sausages, spam, etc. They also have other menu items such as kalguksu and donkatsu. Overall, would recommend to come with friends and family!

I'm embarrassed to admit that as a Korean American in Atlanta, one, I didn't know that this beautiful dish even existed until a few years ago, and two, I didn't know restaurants like this existed. Budaejjigae found its provenance in war-torn Korea, when citizens used what little they had - along with US rations such as luncheon meat, processed cheese, and hot dogs - to create a spicy and deeply satisfying hot pot meal that has now taken Korean street stalls and restaurants by storm. It's not hard to make, but it's difficult to find it outside someone's home...until now. Bally Budaejjigae is tucked away in the corner of an overwhelming complex of restaurants and shops (with Assi Plaza, a Korean supermarket, as its retail anchor), but it's well worth the short and confused search around the labyrinthine square. The folks who work there, particularly the woman who served us, greeted us warmly and didn't blink an eye at our request for an English menu even though we clearly spoke Korean. There's a convenient doorbell-like button at the side of the table that calls over a waitress without you needing to use your voice, and a gas grill waits patiently at your table for the yummies to come. And boy, was it yummy. The kimchi-based broth is spicy, savory, and made me expel a happy "ahhhhh" before I even realize I said something. Orders are per serving size, and the 'Medium 2-3 serving' pot came with rice cakes, tons of sausage slices, spam, and bean spouts (it typically also has ground beef, but they amicably left it out for me when they heard I avoid meat). There are also add-ons, and the tofu and American cheese we chose added the most sumptuous touch. My spendthrift husband balked a little when he discovered we'd essentially be paying a whole dollar per slice of American cheese, but he clammed up once he tasted what that melted loveliness did to the taste of our broth. The accompanying rice comes in a hot metal bowl, which is thoughtfully placed in a wooden base so that clumsy dummies like me don't burn themselves on the servingware. The kettle they bring you is so that you can scoop out the rice and pour water in to cover the rice line. By the end of your meal, all the tasty burnt bits (like the coveted socarrat, or caramelized paella bits, at the bottom of a pan) can create a nice, warm rice porridge for you to end your meal with. I also suspect this makes cleaning far easier on the workers at the end of the meal. Win-win. We had to drive nearly forty minutes out of our way to get here, but by the time we tumbled out of the restaurant with distinctly rounder bellies, we weren't sorry we came.

Tucked away in a corner of the plaza, this is my first time going to a restaurant that serves only budaejjigae. Overall, I had a good experience. The restaurant had a homey and comforting experience and ambiance. The staff were friendly and helpful in explaining how the menu works. Finally, the food itself was pretty good, especially for a slightly cool Georgia evening. The stew warmed me right up and was filling and comforting. The ingredients were generous and was more than enough for 3 people. Would definitely consider dropping by here again next time :)

    Budae Steak. Delicious!

Came here with family after receiving a raving recommendation from our hair salon which we were at prior to coming here right across the street. What a fantastic meal! We ordered Budae Steak for 3 and Korean pancakes. We were under the impression that the Budae Steak came with a bowl of the Budaejigae (Korean Army Stew) but we were sadly mistaken. After finishing the majority of the meat and Korean pancakes we asked our waiter when the Budaejigae was coming out as we would have enjoyed it with the meal, but were told that it was simply called Budae Steak and did not come with Budaejigae. Bummer, so we ordered a single serving of Budaejigae. The owner came out later and apologized for the confusion and comped us a bowl of Budaejigae which was a very kind gesture. The stew was excellent as well though it was very spicy which was nice but we noticed there is an option for a milder version which we may order next time. Sides were fresh and delicious which adds to the ambiance of the restaurant as well which felt like a home cooked Korean meal. Service was very friendly and excellent ad well. They have a call button which we used a few times and the server came and gave us great service. Parking was easy as the restaurant parking lot is shared with the Assi Plaza and neighboring restaurants. I can see myself returning here in the future and recommend them highly. 5 solid Stars and two thumbs up! Thank you for a wonderful meal.

How this meal managed to be "comfort food" is beyond me. This isn't the food of my people or made by my grandma...but somehow during our meal, this thought kept coming into mind. Maybe it's because the ingredients were familiar, even if the execution and broth wasn't. Maybe it's because I'm fat and just love food....who knows...but I do know it was delicious and spicy and meaty and we kept eating until is was all gone! I would tell you to get the Add-ons...you only live once so buy the cheap slices of cheese and extra meat. Throw caution to the wind and get two packets of noodles...LIVE your best stew LIFE! We will be back.

UPDATE: Bumped up the rating since the restaurant is able to take criticism well. Thank you for reaching out! I've only lived in Korea for a short time and tried many budge jjigae restaurants while living in Seoul. My favorite restaurant for budae jjigae in Georgia is Sun and Moon, and I was excited to hear that there was another location in Suwannee that specializes in this entree. I live far from ethnic areas, so my partner and I drove 26 miles one way to have lunch on this cold day at Bally BudaeJjigae. We figured if a restaurant specializes in something, that product must be great. We ordered the most basic budae jjigae, which came with kimchi, beef, sausage, spam, rice cakes, mushrooms, and soy bean sprouts. You would think with that amount of ingredients, the stew would be a blend of wonderful aromas and a salty and sweet fusion of spices. However, this version literally felt like going to Chipotle and getting a wrap with nothing but rice and beans, according to my partner. It was bland, lacked salt and any type of sweetness, and even after a while of cooking, the rice cakes weren't edible. The latter was especially disappointing since I love rice cakes. The rice in the bottom of the steel serving bowl was burnt, the banchan lacked flavoring, and the server never came once to check on us or refill our water. I guess I can live with the poor customer service, bland banchan, and burnt rice, but I'm surprised by the poor quality of the expensive budae jjigae, and even more shocked that this restaurant received a 4.5 rating. I highly recommend revamping your recipe if you want to compete in this market.

Ask the Community - Bally Budaejjigae

This is probably a silly question since Budaejjigae often incorporates ham and sausage, but does anyone know if there are there any non-pork alternatives for the meat? Or is there spam or hot dogs available without pork in it? Thank you!

In any case, I finally decided to check out the place for dinner. Well, right away, I saw that they added more tables. Even with more tables, the restaurant still seemed pretty spacious. I've always loved the spaciousness of this place...but I find the layout a bit awkward. Unless you come with a group of 4, you'll most likely be seated in the open area...where there's just this utter lack of privacy. So yeah, as nice as this place is, there's a certain lack of comfort and coziness? I also noticed that their menu/menus looked quite different. Initially I was handed just this Korean-Chinese menu...and when I asked if they had Bento Boxes, they handed me the Japanese menu, but I didn't see any sushi rolls on the menu (??). I should have asked, but I just let that go. In retrospect, I really regret not asking. But then again, I wonder why they didn't hand out ALL the menus right off the bat? Who knows...Maybe they had a third menu with a list of sushi rolls?? ANYWAY, I ended up ordering their Bulgogi Bento, which turned out to be quite substantial in portion, and well presented. The thing I didn't like was the bland, undercooked Bulgogi, with excessive fat. I've been getting served a lot of Bulgogi like this lately around town..and it has somewhat turned me off to Bulgogi in general. I personally prefer a much better cooked Bulgogi, with less fat. I enjoyed the Japchae, as well as the fried sides, but frankly, all the foods were all lacking in full Korean flavor. Some of the sides in the bento just seemed off...like these lackluster Avocado Sushi Rolls and a generic Salad (??). I felt that for the 32-dollar pricing, the sides should have been much better. This bento also came with Egg Drop Soup...but again, too bland. Guess I should have poured some soy sauce. As usual, the service was really good though. They even added this complimentary post-meal drink...this might have been the best part of my entire meal? I still think this is a really nice restaurant, with a lot to offer. I just didn't like how it got rid of many of its stellar Japanese menu items. Also, unfortunately, I just didn't like what I ordered. Again, the Bulgogi was too mild and too fatty...and all the foods in the Bento tasted a bit too bland. If I was to return, I would definitely not repeat the Bulgogi Bento. If they really don't have any sushi rolls, guess I'd order something Chinese?

The Vietnamese Iced Coffee was also very good in that it was not overly sweet nor was it bitter. It was strong enough for a pick-me-up, but also creamy as I like it. Try this place if you haven't yet. I'll be back!

Came for dinner on a Friday night around 6:30pm. We were seated right away. The restaurant is quite…read morespacious - there were a good number of other tables eating around that time. You are greeted with a nice warm basket of muffins. They are a little cheesy and remind me of a mix of corn bread and regular muffins. We ordered the brisket and spare ribs. Brisket has an option of fatty marbled or lean - we got fatty but it was more a layer of fat than a nice marbling. The meat was a bit tough but not inedible. I do wish it was more marbled and flavorful. It definitely needed the bbq sauce. The spare ribs were quite good. They were big and meaty with different sections of fatty and chewier lean on each rib. The marinade they use for cooking is notably on the sweeter side. The ribs did not need extra bbq sauce in my opinion. The sides were just okay to me: Mac n cheese - nice and creamy but the real tasty cheese flavor was only in the melty cheese globs. Collard greens - good flavor but definitely on the salty side. Lots of meat in this side. Baked beans - your average sweet baked beans, tasty! Side salad - upgrade for $2 - portion was reasonable for price. I was disappointed by the dressing i selected, the vinaigrette. It was mostly oil and little vinegar leading to a very light and unnoticeable flavor. I added more to get more flavor and ultimately ended up with oily leaves... Bonus points for the nugget ice! My favorite :)

This time I ordered ribs with greens and fries. Also a side of smoked wings and we can't forget about those muffins. The food was good and the portion size was big. Overall this place is pretty reliable. Especially when I don't feel like firing the grill up.
