Exceptional pork but all others are below average including the service. Where I currently live don't have gop chang (chitlin, aka intestine) bbq. My mom visited Duluth and brought me gop chang combination Togo from here, which I very much enjoyed so I decided to come here and try it personally and I just was not impressed. Venue: hmm. I consider it more on the smaller sized venue. Sectioned off table for privacy which is common and great quality. Food: ordered beef brisket, pork belly and gopchang (Ala carte) combination options did not match what I wanted. Beef brisket was so tough and chewy. We all looked at each other questioning the quality of this beef. On the other hand, pork belly was exceptional. Great flavor. Was very content with gopchang too. Banchan was mediocre. Love the bean powder (the magic sauce) as a dry meat dip which adds savory sweet taste that enhances the flavor. Whoever created this is a culinary genius. Service: the young lady who sat us to the table was nice then a male server took over. I'm guessing maybe he had a bad day, or just don't want to be there. Not personable. He was grilling for us but our family especially my mother who was there eats speed of sloth, very slow eater. I asked him courteously "can I cook this myself because we are slow eaters". He said "no, I'm going to do it" and slabbed all the meat on the grill. As a Korean person who has been eating in Korean bbq restaurant and home for over 4 decade this was my first. Everyone on the table was speechless. We had to eat in speed and other meats burned. Whilst I love eating gopchang crispy which requires longer cooking, the server came and turned off the grill. This Korean BBQ restaurant that specializes in gopchang used to be pretty good. Now, that has changed a lot, maybe a new owner or it's now too Americanized. Last weekend we ate dinner here and it was so so at best. The quality and service used to be so much better. After ordering, we waited over 30 minutes for our dipping sauce... had to remind the server over again. And the taste was not on point. They weren't even that busy with lot of open tables and rooms. I love gopchang and have tried pretty much every gopchang restaurant in the area. I recommend this one! They have multiple locations but personally think this one is the best. I usually get the A Set which is plenty for three people. The menu here is huge, so I definitely recommend trying a few other dishes. The spicy beef brisket stew is one of my go-tos. There's plenty of seating but the service can be slow. It seems like they were understaffed the last couple of times I went. I enjoyed our dinner at Hwangso Gopchang in Duluth. If you like gopchang, I think this place is worth visiting. If you don't know what gopchang is, it's Korean grilled cow and pig intestines. It's similar to Korean barbecue, with grills at your table and banchan (side dishes) included. However, instead of beef brisket and pork belly, it's tripe and intestines. Hwangso Gopchang specializes in the cow variety, not pig (though they do serve other pig parts). The latter two closed and were replaced by K-Mom's Kitchen and another location of So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ, respectively. I'm happy to see this shopping center doing better, with a higher occupancy rate and more activity compared to 15-20 years ago, but I digress. If you've been to Gopchang on Fire, Hwangso Gopchang's main menu is similar. For example, they both offer "A" and "B" sets of gopchang with the same parts at the same price: A is $59.99 for 2-3 people, B is $69.99 for 3-4 people. These sets are what these places are known for. If you order a set, you should order other dishes too or you might not get full. Hwangso Gopchang differentiates itself by having a bigger menu. Items Hwangso has that Fire doesn't: more stir-fried entrees and soups/stews (including mala stews), multiple kinds of fried rice, cold noodles, pork jowl, mussel soup, and even silkworm pupae soup. I thought everything was savory with appetizing textures. The Pork Belly was thick-cut, relatively lean, and yummy. Hwangso's banchan included steamed egg, pickled white onion, spicy pickled mung bean sprouts, daikon, and garlic chives. Condiments included misugaru (grain powder), sesame oil with salt, pepper, and minced garlic, and Korean soy sauce with bird's eye chili. There was also a spice shaker that was simply labeled "seasoning." I asked a server what it was. He said it was Hwangso's special seasoning mix and he wasn't able to tell us what was in it. The Fish Cake Soup and Potato Pancake complemented the gopchang well. Gopchang also goes well with alcohol. I recommend beer and Korean rice wine. Our server, Solmin, was wonderful. Really great experience here. Would recommend one of their set menus where you can get a good sample of different meats. The meat comes out fresh and the waiter/waitress assists you with cooking, which for us was great because we had no idea what we were doing. This is my second time here and me and my friends LOVED it. We came here on a Friday night around 7:30 And it was already a packed house. Lucky there was some seatings outside in their outdoor patio area that they do allow smoking. We ordered a few things and everything was good. We did combo B of gopchange which feeds 3/4 people but I think it could feed way more than 4 people. We also ordered the beef tartare which was ok. I thought it was weird that the slices of meats were served frozen. We waited for it to defrost a little before eating... after half way eating it, we realized we forgot to pour the sauce that came with it over the meat!!! ‍‍. The Spicy Seafood Squid Soup was definitely a big Hit!!! The brought was so flavor and spicy! But a good spice! The squid that came with the soup was cold which kinda of killed it being in a soup. It's not groundbreaking, but let's be real--after a few bottles of soju, you're not here to critique fish cake quality. The staff were fantastic. The B set had an assortment of different meat parts and they were all delicious except the gopchang, which was a little too thin for my liking. Also, the portion size wasn't that big. The menu says it's for 3-4 people but I would say it's more for three people with small to moderate appetites. Was super excited to finally try this place since I've heard so many people say this is the best place to get gopchang in ATL! I will say it was more expensive than I thought it would be. We got one of the Sets to share and it was enough for both of us (we were content, not super full though). They give you some sides to go with your meat, as well as a steamed egg and a variety of dips which I really liked (my favorite was the garlic and the spicy soy sauce). All of the "meats", from the stomach lining to the intestines were so good. They didn't taste gamey or "smelly" which was great. There were a lot of people around us ordering the extra things like alcohol, fried rice, soups, etc. Maybe next time we will try them but we didn't want to spend the extra money for it at the time. For dessert they have a free (limited to one per person) ice cream machine. The ice cream comes out SUPER slow though, so have the patience to get enough lol. read more

We ordered several orders of the large intestine and seasoned large intestines. The unseasoned large intestines was fatty and when left to char, had a delicious crispness to it. Delicious when dipped in the trio of sauces provided. I was even a bigger fan of the seasoned large intestines as it was cut flat so it got even crispier. Similar taste to bacon without the high sodium. It IS very greasy- burst of fat so that can be a little off putting after a while. Everything paired well with the small variety of banchan which consisted of pickled daikon wraps, bean sprouts, sliced onions and chives. We also ordered kimchi fried rice which was just OK. We came here around 10PM on a Saturday night and it was fairly crowded but no line. A table opened up for us right when we walked in so we were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and quick. The menu was mostly in Korean so she guided us through it and what would be best to order. We ordered the A Set for 3 people and a bowl of rice, and our banchan came out straight away. Nothing fancy, just kimchi, chive salad, marinated bean sprouts, and marinated green onion. The set also came with a savory spicy stew. The soup was steaming hot and full of umami, with a nice spicy kick at the end. The set was the perfect size for two people. It comes with large intestine, small intestine, stomach, and heart. Our server grilled and cut the meat for us and let us know when it was done (probably because we looked clueless). The meat was so delicious, especially when eaten with the soup and banchan. The sharp taste of the chive salad cut through the fattiness of the meat. You definitely have to like intestines to enjoy that innards flavor, but I loved it. Our bill at the end was about $65-$70 not including tip. My absolute favorite gopchang joint in ATL. I always visit here and there is rarely a time I have a worse-than-great experience. I visited on a Thursday evening with a friend and we ordered the A set (which comes with a combination of gopchang, daechang, makchang, teukyeom and yeomtong). It serves 3 people but I usually always order it even when it's two because quite frankly, portions aren't the biggest. We also ordered two servings of the fried rice with cheese, which is always a great pair with the meats. The few things I like about this place over other gopchang places here in ATL: 1) They always spray this "magic" powder on top of the meat (which I speculate to be MSG but it enhances the flavor) 2) They have injeolmi powder, which is always a popular dipping sauce/powder for native Koreans. 3) Their daechang is round and very juicy (except there was one point when they switched out to the flat ones and I was quite disappointed) The servers cook the gopchang for you and let you know when it's done. They are also very attentive and are usually very kind. Lastly, I'm always impressed that they offer free soft serve ice cream as a small dessert before leaving. So far this is the third Korean offal spot I've seen and I'm loving this genre of restaurant that is not as popular because because people in our sterile society are pretty weak and in their own echo chamber when it comes to food. A little bit of context... this type of joint is literally Korean street food. Popular among businessmen and k-pop stars alike where the restaurant only features intestine meat and offal. It is essentially the main attraction for a Gopchang place, intestine. Small, large, and stomach lining or tripe. The Pros: the dining area is the same as any other gopchang place but the cool part is that it offers a separate outdoor seating section solely for smoking so if you want to eat your large intestine while you smoke, this place offers that so it's pretty customer accommodating in terms of the smokers and non-smokers. They also have a larger selection of choices. Some places don't offer heart, this place does. Hwangso also dusts the meat with something like garlic salt dust or something like that which adds a savory flavor to it. The Differences: Most Daechang (Large intestines) I've experienced have been cut open and laid flat on the grill to cook before cutting them into easier-to-eat strips. This place leaves them whole. Personally, I like that better! The makchang is pre-cut compared to other spots which is interesting as some places will cook the organ meat whole before cutting. The sauces they offer are actually interesting. This place has a bean curd dipping powder that has this sweetness to the meat. Not something I personally would go for, but it's another kind of variety this place shines with. The sides are also different from other places. They have pickles radish sheets used as wraps which helps cut through the fattiness of all the organ meat you're eating. Other places I know do not offer that so that's a nice change of scenery. The Cons: It is pretty expensive. There's a range of $19-22 of your grilled meats which means this place needs to be with a party. Between all the meats I tried, I dropped close to $70 which I was not expecting to do. Other places have their prices at $16. And with the fact that you need to order two things, it's definitely pricey. Another thing I found a bit distasteful was during the dining experience, their cleaning solution was strong. Even while sitting outdoors and eating, I smelled the degreasing cleaner they were using to clean the tables. I mean, kudos for keeping things clean but the smell cut through and it diminished the experience. Overall, this place is great. Honestly, do yourselves a favor and skip on the gopchang unless you're super pressed on it. The daechang is where it's at! Soooo juicy and fatty! I love how some of them have a green onion stuffed inside. The daechang was so good that I went back to eat here before leaving Georgia. The sauces they give you were also so good. I dipped mine in all of them and the injeolmi powder pairs so well with the greasy intestines. Service was pretty decent. You shouldn't expect too much in BBQ places, but they have buttons at each table that go MOOOO~ and the servers respond fairly quickly once the button is pressed. My friend introduced me to this place because he knew I was a big fan of gopchang and daechang. It's become one of my favorite places to go but most of my friends don't like gopchang so I always have to drag my family. I always receive outstanding service here and the combo sets are usually good to feed two to three people depending on how hungry your party is. I usually find myself eating a lot so splitting one of the combos with a friend usually fills us both up with an additional order of their kimchi fried rice (minimum two orders at $3.99/order). When I went with my family (party of 6), the waitress recommended that we just got one order of each type of gopchang/daechang instead of two combos and that was the perfect amount for us. In addition to their meats, I love their chive salad (and other sides). It's the perfect complement to the gopchang. The food was decent, but the service was not good. First of all, when we arrived, they told us the wait time would be about 20-30 minutes. We waited for 30 minutes and asked again how long the wait would be, and we were told it would be another 20 minutes. We ended up waiting for over 90 minutes. When we were finally seated, we ordered 3 cuts and the waitress made a rude judgmental face. When we got our food, they were a bowl of rice short, and the waitress was insisting that we only ordered 3 instead of 4 rather than admitting her mistake. We also ordered the Korean potato pancakes, which were not authentic at all. They were basically hash browns and looked store-bought. I have been here before & after COVID-19. 2 weeks ago, I've ordered the assorted grilled gopchang (Set A) along with fried rice from the menu for pickup order. This wasn't the first time I had their food as to-go option. Everything tasted good except for the Dae-chang, which almost looked like if it had been cooked hours ago. I know this because I've been to many K-bbq restaurants that specializes in Gopchang and seen how they look after hours. I hope they fix this. They give three different sauces per person (bean powder, sweet soy sauce w/ pepper, sesame oil with minced garlic). My recommendation is that they stop using minced garlic that are old because you can tell by the color of it. I will give a try here once again in near future to see if they had improved their quality or not. read more
