For a chain restaurant, the 99 does a really solid job. The bar is where they shine. Drinks are consistently awesome, and the service when sitting at the bar is fast, attentive, and just overall a great experience. You can tell the bartenders know what they're doing. The pot pies are a standout for me, absolutely loved them. Comfort food done right. I will say, service at a booth wasn't quite the same. It was a bit slower and less attentive compared to the bar area. Not terrible, just noticeable. The music was also a little loud for my taste, but honestly, I can overlook that for a good pot pie and a strong drink. I was a bit on the fence when we walked in for lunch due to the smell which I believe stemmed from the carpeting. I highly recommend changing the flooring next renovation. I really enjoyed the decor which features photographs of local high school sports players and other local heroes. I love the hometown pride! Our server was very good, both efficient and friendly. There was a time or two I wanted a refill and couldn't locate her; however, I believe she was in charge of a lot of tables. My cousin ordered the fish tacos paired with rice. The serving was extremely generous and she was pleased. I ordered a deconstructed grilled chicken BLT wrap. I removed the bacon and mayo and ordered guac on the side and paired with French fries. The wrap was also a generous portion so I too had leftovers. The guacamole wasn't anything to write home about so I took a side of vinaigrette for my leftover wrap. This was a tastier pairing. Traveling for a living has taught me the value of chain restaurants or, more to the point, decent chain restaurants. Referrals from the locals often end with disappointment. I may not like what they like. I know that the odds are in my favor when ordering a burger at a 99 restaurant that it will be as good in Utica, NY as it was in Worcester, MA. The dinner was just okay overall. The best part was the Mozzarella Moons. Buffalo tenders taste was very strong and there was barely any bacon in my Bacon Mac and Cheese. Our server was hardly found throughout our meal. Definitely worth a try though. read more

Omg ! This has the best fast food in town. I came here with my family to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. Food was great and all the staff is super friendly. We decided a movie date and picked 99 for its convenient location - we were giving it a last try because the last visit (first) was not good. Fortunately this time, our waiter did a fair job. They have a special BBQ event going on so I picked the BBQ combo to share between us. The platter included everything from chicken, ribs, shrimp skew, and a bacon Mac' n cheese. Not bad as the food was cooked well - this might be the benefit or strength of "corporate" or chain restaurants that they usually have strict recipe to deliver consistent food. However, this also tastes like the food from a "chain": no depth of flavor, all flavor comes from the thick BBQ sauce tasted like a store bought one, and the chicken and shrimp were grilled, not the kind of smoked meat you can expect from a local BBQ restaurant. Mr. Flower summarized it well: it is not bad but tastes "cheap". Cheap was not necessarily a negative word here but to describe the feel it delivered. We ordered delivery for the first time this week. My wife got the Mediterranean grilled chicken salad- the salad was large, fresh and had a great balance of flavors. The creamy dressing was flavorful and creamy but still light. I had the Balsalmic Chicken with broccoli and french fries. The fries did not travel well at all but were probably good when fresh. The broccoli was plain (fine for me- I prefer to add my own) and even reheating it was very crisp (also good for me ). The chicken was pretty dry- a bit of sauce to pour over would have been welcome. Gotta love a good meal after working out!- 99 is a great place. I've been here on a few occasions but I've never reviewed it. Very causal atmosphere, they have a good sized bar, but even during happy hour it's not usually busy. My girlfriend and I came here around 4 o'clock on a Monday. There were about 5 other parties, so it wasn't busy at all. Our waiter (who was pretty cute might I add) was fast and attentive with our drink and food order. I was looking for a healthy meal, so I got the sirloin steak (it comes with brocolli and grilled tomato - ) i wasn't in the mood for tomatoes so I got a side of asparagus instead for a $4 up charge. My friend got the same thing as I did with the tomato and it looked really yummy!! I absolutely LOVED the steak. It was cooked perfect and had grilled mushrooms and crumbled bleu cheese on top- soo delicious!! They have some great options on the menu. I REALLY WANTED A BURGER- but I was trying to be good for once in my life and eat healthy lol All in all I would recommend 99 to anyone! The picture of the sweet potato crusted haddock looked amazing and the waitress confirmed that it is a best seller and people love it, so I decided to order it. Sadly, I did not like it. I never send food back, I was just going to eat the side of broccoli and deal with it, but when the waitress asked if I liked it I couldn't hide my distaste. It wasn't seasoned well at all and had no taste. The waitress was very apologetic and offered to swap out my dish. I ended up ordering a salad that was delicious. My family and I would go here all the time. When I became vegetarian, my menu options were limited (expected), but they changed the menu ONCE AGAIN, and took away all vegetarian salads (I believe there were 2). The food became lower quality, and eventually my family stopped using this restaurant as a go-to for eating out around 1-2 years ago. My dad is also very salty that the fajitas were removed from the menu a few years ago. He loves them! Please bring back the fajitas and vegetarian salads. Also, adding more vegetarian food options other than a sad black bean burger would be appreciated. As far as I know, nothing about the menu has changed. read more
