I had been told several times to try out Old School and I'm so glad I did tonight. 6 of us went before an event for an early dinner and were promptly seated by Sara, an absolutely fantastic server. I'd recommend trying out a $4 cosmo for happy hour. It was fantastic and didn't taste like a $4 drink! If a place has a fried bologna sandwich on their menu, I'm getting it, and I have to say, Old School's was one of the best I've had in a long time. The roll it was on was brushed with garlic butter which was a great touch. I'll definitely be back for it. Everyone I was with was happy with their orders. I have customers in Utica and needed a spot to eat and work on my laptop. I literally found this place on accident. It was lunchtime and the place was packed. The bar was full of people and most of the tables were full. They had one bartender who was serving drinks and waiting all the tables. She was amazing and held it down. I decided to go with Chicken wings. The flavor I picked was pot gold. The wings were excellent. It was kind of like a tangy barbecue flavor and it was good. She recommended I try their homemade blue cheese to go with the wings. She was absolutely correct it was great. I would come back here just for those wings. read more

We were greeted immediately by one of the nicest bartenders ever and got menus right after sitting down. She was working the whole bar and table area and killed it! Once the food came out we were pleased with the presentation, and even more satisfied with the taste. The risotto balls were perfectly cooked and warm inside, and the chicken sandwich had so many flavors going on that were perfect. The real star of the show were the fries/chips. They were so soft inside but held their shape on the outside, low key obsessed with them. The rumors about the steak sandwich are absolutely true - excellent. Cooked perfectly, tender, served on toasted garlic bread and smothered in cheese this was one of the best I've ever had. I added the cherry peppers for just the right amount of heat. Comes with house fries which are bite sized and also cooked perfectly. Other dishes were a burger (just slightly over cooked) which also came with fries and was very good. Classic riggies which, while not the best in town, were very good. And another steak sandwich. All portion sizes were very good for the prices. Appetizer was mozzarella sticks made with some of the softest mozzarella I've ever had. Service was good. Our server checked on us at appropriate intervals. Average speed of service with total time of under 90 minutes. Server did forget to put our appetizer order in but corrected the mistake as soon as we pointed it out and she comped the dish. Very pleasant. Pub type atmosphere. Clean. Contrary to other reviews, service on a semi-busy Saturday night with two bartenders was subpar...sat there more than five minutes before being greeted/acknowledged by either barkeep. Food was ok, the steak sandwich with greens came out looking nowhere the size of the pictures posted here, and the 10 piece wings had half of them slightly larger than sparrow wings, one of them having less than one bite of meat on it. The best part was getting the bill. The bartender tallied up my tab and ran my card without giving me a detailed receipt/slip. After I asked more than once for an actual receipt to go with the credit card slip, she finally replied that they don't do that because they figure it out and enter the total into the credit card machine. She eventually dug out the crumpled up handwritten ticket and gave it to me while saying I could check it over to make sure she didn't gypped me. The only item missing was my second draft, which I definitely was charged for because there's no way the sandwich, order of wings and 2 UC drafts at $3 each could come to $42.37, even with Oneida county's 8.75% sales tax. So once again decided to go to Old School for lunch and once again it was absolutely Delicious I had the Steak Sandwich with Greens on it and the person with me had the Steak Sandwich with Mushrooms both made perfectly, the Steak tender as can be the Greens full of flavor the bread so fresh and the potatoes on the side fried perfectly crispy. Excellent place!!! my dad's old buddies began this bar and grill that we went to check out today. Definetly italian style, food was amazing, service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere is comforting. The bread they serve you start off with is loaded with butter garlic and parm cheese. The Utica Greens were delicious and not to hot at all.I ordered the Chicken Domick and split it with the fam. Mom got their well know steak sandwich that was unreal, they loaded it with roasted peppers and such, dad got chicken wings, hot and everything sauce which is really good I'm impressed! the sandwiches were buttery garlic bread and the fries even had like garlic parm!!! .... I came here tonight with my boyfriend's family. His uncle recommended the place, especially the chicken riggies, so almost everyone at my table got an order of them. Most of us ordered them hot; but, when we took a bite they had no spice at all. The chicken was definitely cooked separately, instead of in the sauce like it's supposed to be, because it lacked flavor altogether & wasn't tender. Not to mention, there were two uncooked pieces of chicken in one of our plates (that we found). Once we found it, none of us ate anymore of the chicken & just stuck to the pasta. We complained to our waitress, who said she would speak to the manager, at the end of our meal. The manager offered to make a new plate to take to go. We definitely didn't want another plate of it after that bad experience & even if we did, we weren't going home until later tonight, so it would've went to waste. They refused to take it off the bill, so they charged us for an uncooked plate that nobody ate. Also, the manager didn't even bother to apologize to us for this mistake. Definitely won't be coming here again. We understand that these things happen, but the least they could've done is confronted us. A place that still knows how to do things right! We were looking for a place to eat in Utica on our way up to the Adirondack's. This place was clean, friendly environment; excellent service (our waitress was Samantha) and the food was just perfect. You know it's gonna be good Italian food when you see the owners walking around hugging people and making conversation at nearly every table. We had their version of Utica Greens which were absolutely delicious and a huge portion...just the kind I like. We also had the stuffed longhot peppers which were awesome with the perfect amount of heat cut with a sweet balsamic glaze drizzle. We also had deep fried wings mixed with garlic and hot sauce which were served just how I like them with the perfect crisp and tasty sauce. The bread that comes to the table was fresh and doused in a garlic butter sauce with a beautiful crust on top. I'm extremely hard to please especially, with Italian food because I come from a family of restauranteurs, and I'm always complaining about poor service but not this place.
