Haunted Dinner So I went to a haunted house before ordering dinner at the Norwich Connecticut 99 Restaurant. Before leaving the attraction, I called in my order. My choices for this meal where an order of the Mozzarella Moons and the Vermont Cheddar Burger, ordered to pick up. When I arrived at the 99 my order was ready and waiting for me. The hostess was smiling and friendly. The restaurant seemed to be very busy to me and this made me glad I had decided to get a takeout order rather than having a sit-down meal. I chose take out just because it was getting late and I wanted to just get back to my room for a relaxing evening. The Mozzarella Moons, a differently shaped take on mozzarella sticks, were pretty much what I had expected. The coating for the mozzarella was a garlicy bread crumb coating then deep fried to a crispy, crunchy finish. Topped with some grated parmesan cheese and some basil and served with a container of marinara sauce for dipping. The cheese was melty and stretchy as fried mozzarella tends to be and the coating was very tasty. The Vermont Cheddar Burger was delivered in compartmented container. The cheese covered burger was in one compartment, the vegetables, consisting of red onion, a few leaves of lettuce, tomato slices and some pickles slices, were in another compartment and the fries were in a third compartment. This arrangement kept the vegetables from getting heated and soggy on the burger. Some condiments were also in my bag. The burger was cooked to my preferred level of doneness, medium rare, was very juicy and had plenty of cheese covering the whole burger. read more

Told there were no tables available with empty tables right in front of me. When I pointed it out she said that waitress was new and couldn't handle an extra table???? I was alone... plenty of other places that offer shit food and 0 beer selection! read more

The food here is just plain not good. They have these weird breaded hot chicken things that are perhaps the worst chicken I've ever had. Pass on 99. read more

Ordered a lobster roll to go. They never came out to the car; I had to go in to get it. not a big deal but don't advertise you'll come out to the car. So I get it and go home. Apparently, somebody doused the lobster salad with salt. yes I understand that lobster is from the sea and it may be somewhat salty but this was ridiculously salty where I couldn't eat it without a bite of bread to drown out the salt. Which brings me to how awful the bread was. So chewy I could barely bite into it. I think my dog would have had a hard time. The coleslaw was watery like it had been sitting there for days. I have had a lobster roll and slaw there before that was fine so I don't know what happened this time. Bad lunch to go. read more

Nothing special about this place at all. Starting to wonder if all the chain restaurants are curse in Norwich. There was nothing great about this food. It wasn't fresh tasting nor was the service great. Average at best and I am bein nice. The waiter was ok. Go somewhere else if you can. read more

Your email brought your special Ultimate Surf & Turf to my attention, which immediately caught my eye. I phoned in my take-out order today to your Norwich, CT location. Nneka was very pleasant and upbeat as she assisted me with my order. Again at pick-up, Nneka was cheerful, prompt to greet me, and quick to return with my order (Please give her a pat on the back for doing it right!). It was a fantastic experience already, but once I got home and tried my meal, it was still a great temperature and OH THE FLAVOR! The meal of NY Sirloin, flame-broiled shrimp, and baked scallops (5!!!), along with my choice of mashed potatoes was outstanding in every way. Not to mention, a GREAT VALUE at $18.99! Came here with the wife, service was terrible and food was cold/terrible and drinks were not good. Jack and coke that was 99% jack and ice. Ordered chicken/steak tip combo, wife ordered buffalo chicken but the server forgot to put hers in. By the time the buffalo chicken came out my food was cold. Fries and chicken inedible, and the steak was ordered medium-well but came out medium-rare without any kind of sear on top. When I decided we wouldn't be tipping, she did not give us back the change and took $11 that did not belong to her and we had to ask for it back. Will never come back to this location. read more

We have been going to this 99 location for years. We particularly love the service of Lucinda and Richard. Food is always hot and fresh, and mistakes are handled quickly. However, in recent visits, we have been very disappointed with the host. Brigette is never able to answer any of our questions about the menu. When we request to be sat with a particular server, she does not comply and instead sits us elsewhere. She takes her time seating us as well, which my disabled veteran father does not like. The entirety of the 99 staff is friendly and welcoming otherwise. read more

The first time I went to 99 I was quite shocked at how good their food was. However, my second time there wasn't so great. My burger was burnt black and my server was a bit too comfortable. She really made me feel uncomfortable when she sat next to me, pushing me over saying "move over girlfriend" to take down our order. I understand that she's trying to be friendly but that's a bit over the top and my food did not come as I specified. However, for the most part, it decent food. read more

On April 20th we came to 99 and it was my daughters first outing at a public restaurant since sustaining a brain injury.. the staff of the restaurant was phenomenal. The managers welcomed us and offered any services they could. The waitress was fantastic and so patient! The food was specially prepared for my daughter to be able to have one of her favorite foods (lobster Mac & Cheese). Thank you for helping to make this a successful first lunch outing!!! read more

I have dined at the Norwich and Groton resaurants. I have always been very satisfied with everything. It is now the place that I bring friends to because I can be sure they will be pleased with everything. We are on the e-club and receive emails of specials. Great idea! Our favorite is the smothered broiled tips; M-m-m-m! Can't be beat! And be sure to try the bubble green tea. read more

This is a hit or miss place. We go there very very often because it's the only place nearby. Sometimes the food and service is wonderful... Other times the food is terrible and the service is iffy. I would suggest never to order the fish because it's never really fresh. Smothered beef tips are pretty good though. read more

Keep in mind there is a 5 Guys burger place in the same parking lot . I ordered a simple hamburg medium-rare . Waited a extended time for it to come to table . I looked at burger it was charbroiled ........crisp . Sent it back .Had to wait again , meanwhile my fiance finished her meal when I got my burger . Had waitress wrap it and threw in trash for fear of spit in it. Also bring out a vacuum carpets had all kinds of debris on it . And it was 2pm and very few customers . From the moment I walked in here I felt like I was being treated like very low class, it took out waitress over five minutes to ask as our drink order and by that time we had already known what we wanted to eat and where sitting there waiting. She came over never introduced herself took out order. I had ordered clam chowder and a Cesar salad , with a strawberry lemonade and my boyfriend had ordered a cheeseburger with special sauce cheese onions and bacon, and a iceberg salad with a pepsi.She asked how we would like our food to come we asked for our salads first, mind you se did not ask him how he wanted his burger. She brings us our drinks and as my boyfriend goes to take a sip of his soda he sees a huge blob of dried food on the rim of his cup discussed we asked the manager for a new glass. The manager hands off the glass to our waitress does not tell her what is wrong with it and she brings us a new one with no apology nothing, and this Pepsi had tasted like club soda.She drops of the soda and leaves then, about 15-20 minutes go by and we are wondering where are salads are finally they arrive and we begin to eat them, not even three minutes later our food arrives we are not even close to done eating our salads. As we continued to eat our salads mine had come with bread I go to take a bite and it is as hard as a rock! We tell the waitress she goes and gets another one buy the time she comes back we have moved on to our next course and once gain she just drops not off and takes off not a how is everything can I get you anything else. Our food is cold I cannot even stomach to eat the cold chowder and my boyfriend only eats half of his burger because he's starving hand just stars at the other half because it is medium rare where he likes his meat well done. We ask to talk to the manager we explained to her what had happened and she says she will get it take, care of and leaves the table. Now we are sitting there waiting for 6 minutes waiting for her to let us know what is going to happen. She never comes back!! Finally out waitress comes over and tells us we are all set, so we leave feeling extremely uncomfortable and unwanted. After spending a Friday afternoon running errands we were in the immediate vicinity of the 99.....have never been a huge fan, but the convenience of the location is what brought us there. We sat at the bar and waited patiently for the bartender (whose appearance was a far cry from neat) to take our drink order! My husband ordered a beer while I ordered a martini......beer came right up! Martini was made in between loading dishwasher, gabbing w/friends at the bar, delivering a food order, opening a bottle of wine........not a happy camper! Place our food order and as is comes up at the window, the bartender now has a fist full of cash in his right hand and proceeds to pick up our dishes and garnish, all while still holding onto that filthy, dirty cash! Needless, to say......we said "NO, thank you" to the food! And my husband had a few very choice words for the bartender! He immediately got the manager, but by then it was too late! The experience left a very bad taste in our mouths! Will never consider going there again no matter how close or convenient it may be. read more

Had dinner here tonight with my boyfriend. I wasn't expecting top quality however I also wasn't expecting the sickness I have now. Once seated, our waitress came over and took our drink orders. We each ordered one of their "special " non alcoholic drinks but there was nothing special about them. They tasted like watered down juice. We both ordered, he got Apple glazed ribs with chicken strips and French fries and I ordered a prime rib cooked medium rare. I was so disgusted by the food that came out. His chicken was so dry and unappetizing to look at. My steak came out looking like a slab of rubber. It was not a steak. It was completely pink inside and out just one solid color of pink. I was so hungry so I did eat it. Once I got home nearly an hour later, I started getting extremely sick and spent almost two hours with my head in my toilet. Stopped in here for a quick lunch with a friend. Immediately greeted and seated by our server Phil. Overheard a lady at the table across from us obnoxiously complaining about her meal to Phil. Saying it was so bad she wasn't taking it home. Looked over and saw that she had basically ate the whole thing ( so obviously she wouldn't take it home...). My friend and I went on a Friday night and we were seated in 15 minutes. The atmosphere was casual and pleasant, and it was very clean. I ordered an 8 oz steak medium with garlic mashed potatoes and portabella mushrooms. All were prepared perfectly. For $13.49 I thought the portions were generous, and the quality of the steak was impressive! Tender and delicious. Our server, Carley, was very attentive and friendly. Ordered the prime rib - was vomiting violently and had horrendous diarrhea until about 7 PM the following day.

Well where do i begin.... First off you never expect a culinary masterpiece at these chains but what happened to me here and after was just unreal.. First of all I will start by saying that i had no previous health issues before going here. Me and a friend after a business expo went to eat here and I hadnt had anything to eat in about 18 hrs and besides being hungry was feeling just fine.. We ordered the boneless chicken wings and potato skins for starters and I had a steak for main course and he the fish and chips. He wasnt feeling the wings so much and only had one , I ended up eating the other 7 , a couple of minutes go by and I start feeling warm ,. The steak shows up and I had a couple of bites and at this point I am feeling full and getting hot flashes and starting to feel disoriented.. I goto the bathroom and by the time i get there break out in a full sweat.. I go back to the table and tell my friend im going outside to get some air ,,being January I thought the cold air may help,. Im not outside more than 3 minutes and I am vomiting violently all over the place. After basically getting rid of everything that was in my stomach I still felt bloated and couldnt take deep breaths,it was painful to breathe, The manager came out and told me to go to the hospital,which I had already decided was in my best interest .My friend drove me to the ER and immediately they took me in knowing that I was in rough shape , over the next couple of hours and blood work EKG ,cat scans and ultrasounds they determined that my enzyme levels were 8 times the normal and they admitted me . They checked for galdstones,kidney stones all known issues that would raise my levels so suddenly and came to the conclusion that I had Acute Pancreatitis . My usual doctor came in and I told him the story and though he was not convinced I was suffering from food poisoning (probably not wanting to get involved in a legal issue) he ended up keeping me hospitilized for 3 days on a straight chipped ice diet after 36 hours of no food or drink. When released he told me no alcohol ( I am not a big drinker, social if anything) and I was really taken back by this as I hadnt had a drink in over a week or so and even then it was only a couple. I was contacted by a firm while I was in the hospital representing 99 telling me that they were going to investigate and pay for my medical and all bills associated with my hospitalization as well as pain and suffering and loss work time. Well after almost 3 months they have finished their investigation and found that they were not at fault due to my diagnosis.. Hmmm do your research Acute Pancreatitis 15% of the time is caused by food poisoning and just because they had no stool or vomit to test at the hospital ,they werent able to find traces of any bad bacteria., If i knew then what I know now I would of surely went back to the parking lot for a sample.. From what i have heard this restaurant has many complaints of food poisoning already and it doesnt really surprise me, the manager knew the deal and surely was quick to act seeing my symptoms.. I now have medical bills associated with my 3 day stay and was seriously out of commission for more than a week with severe pain for 3 days that neede morphine to deal with it. Save yourself and eat next door at Burger King,, Avoid at all costs I will shout this post from the mountain tops ,no one deserves this pain ever.. And to boot I think my friend still paid the bill? 99 Restaurant is definitely not a good choice for your next meal. read more

they decided it would be a good idea to bring me my food while i waited in the car, at a special drop off charge, when i never asked for the service, thus, costing me money i didnt want to spend. not so worried about the small change, rather the fact that they were arrogant enough to do so, without telling me. the food tasted pretty bad, i wouldnt go there again. read more
