Not too impressed with this place. Overall, it did not look that clean, and our table was wiped down with old sanitizer water, which had that rancid smell. When we ordered, they were out of a few of the items on the menu that my party requested. I ordered a 18-ounce prime rib with a baked potato and the seafood chowder. The chowder tasted like uncooked heavy cream with potatoes and seafood. As for my prime rib, the cut was extremely fatty, with only about half of the cut being edible. Was asked to wait 5 minutes for seating so they could clear a table. We sat by and watched multiple people walk in and get seated ahead of us. I thought maybe they had called ahead, but after half an hour had passed I asked why our number hadn't been seated yet. I was told that we had been crossed off already, despite our name never being called and our pager never going off. This person was standing 10 feet from where we were waiting the entire time, and yet seated everyone who walked in while we waited. Then she asked us to wait again while they clear a table. My dad wanted to go here because he usually enjoys your food. I agreed because I know he's picky and likes what he likes. However, I am vegan and thought I would be able to find something on the menu. Well, I couldn't find anything. Everything on the menu has some type of dairy, eggs, or meat. I asked about the vegetarian burger and found that it USED to be vegan, but isn't anymore. Why??? I would have happily eaten a vegan burger, Red Robbin has a fantastic one (for example). All of the salads have chicken, steak, bacon, feta, parmesan, etc. And when you remove those there's not much left except some peppers, olives, tomatoes. I'm not usually picky and am usually happy ordering a salad but your salad selection sucks. DO NOT recommend for vegans or anyone lactose intolerant or with a lactose sensitivity. Our last few experiences here at the 99 haven't been overly impressive. Service has been decent and the food is pretty good for the price. This last time we went we had a few friends with us and we will no be returning. The waitress was super nice and was willing to fix the issues we ran into but we definitely weren't impressed by the manager. Our friend from out of town ordered a glass of wine and was denied by the bartender. Saying he was wearing a hat in his photo and they couldn't serve him. He was not wearing a hat in his photo and not even a week ago he got a drink here with no issues. We asked to speak to the manger who's attitude was rather unpleasant, giving us unneeded sass. Shortly after we found a very large hair in one of the burgers. Needless to say we were very disappointed in our experience tonight and will not be returning. read more

I didn't actually eat here, but the restaurant show cases as a pub and restaurant. it really is more of a Denny's or Perkin's with a bar. I stopped in for a drink on my way back to my hotel. It was pretty dull and not a bar seen. read more

Kids eat FREE on Sundays for the month of October. 99 has a great selection, so you don't have to be in the mood for one specific thing, chances are pretty good that 99 has something for you, everything from snacks up to steaks, chicken and seafood. Well, certainly better than Ponderosa but not as good as Texas Roadhouse. We went for lunch. My boys got there first and my wife was coming from her office to meet us. The service was so slow that my wife was unable to finish eating before she had to return to work. We have been here before for dinner and I don't recall the service having been so slow. After an evening of shopping with my little sister she asked if we could stop at 99 because she loves their bubble tea, I like their Barbados breeze cocktail so we decided to stop in. I checked online what time they closed for the evening which said 10:00pm on Sundays. We walk in at about 9:20pm and wait at the host stand for 3/4min before anyone acknowledges us and seats us. The waitress was short and in a rush it seemed, (even though she only had one other table) delivered our drinks, (I had to ask for a water) and took our food order. We ordered a ceaser salad to start, there wasn't much dressing so we waited to eat until we got more dressing. She didn't come back to check on us until she dropped our entree. When she dropped our entree she also dropped the bill as well....! This is the first time I've received the check at a restaurant prior to even taking one bite out of my food. I asked for more dressing, and if I was able to order another cocktail. She seemed very annoyed (it was about 9:35pm) she asked the cook for more dressing if he didn't already put it away, asked the bartender if I could have another cocktail or is it to late. Worst service and dining experience I've had. I would understand if I was still ordering things after they had closed but they were still open for another half hour! read more

Ok as a chain restaurant. Wait staff were pleasant. The dinner I had ... a steak ... was so different than what was shown on the menu ... it's almost funny. Menu showed a small but thick steak (probably ~1 inch thick). What arrived was broader ... but much thinner ... definitely lower quality meat (... though... I wasn't expecting much). Going into this restaurant, if your expectations are set correctly (meh food, but edible) ... then I'd say this was ok. Just don't expect anything special. read more

There were 6 of us and we are not residents of Vermont. Our server, Crystal, was one of the most polite and wonderfully graced server we have seen in a long time. For the price we paid, the food was very good even from a fussy eater's perspective. We looked at the food served to other patrons and the presentations looked very good as well. So we go for dinner. 2 older adults and 2 kids...the "kids" are ages 25 and 29. The older adults order drinks with liquor - no problem. The "kids" also order drinks with liquor. Oh no! May I see your ID, the server asks. No problem, provided. Shows their pictures and shows their birthdates... and let's not forget, the parents are right there. Not good enough. Do you have other forms of ID, well, yes they did. And both had pictures and their names in the IDs. Well, the server asks, do you have a credit card. Well, yeppers, they both did. This incredibly inept server comes back and ask fir their passports... no go there. We are in the US and we are all US citizens. No need to travel with passport, unless you want a drink at this place. The IDIOT manager NEVER bothered to come talk to us or to try to explain her foolish decision. NEVER. If thus place wants a higher rating they need to get a new manager... nit the server, the server only did what the idiot manager told her to do... we asked why? The server Jyst shrugged her head and said it was a new manager. Time for a newer manager at this place. Great food and great waiter. We got the new maple whisky sirloin which was delicious and a side of ribs. The ribs had a good amount of meat of them and the dipping side sauce made it that much better. The waiter Chris was attentive but not overbearing and we were in and out which is what we were hoping for. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star experience is because of some of the distraction of the other staff with personal conversations between each other.. I was at dinner with a friend 2 weeks ago and we ordered drinks, wine and a draft beer, it took over 20 minutes for our order to arrive, our dinner order arrived 1 hour and 10 minutes after we sat down and mine was barely warm. My friend went for lunch with a friend yesterday and both their meals were barely warm and the service was again VERY SLOW. I will NEVER recommend or return to this restaurant again. If I could give it NO stars I would. Plus the added factor the food is mediocure at best. read more

Several times we have eaten at your restaurant while visiting family in Essex Junction over the past two years and find it one of the best we have been to. A very good selection of food, courteous wait staff and good prices. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and plan to stop by again (this year sometime) when we are in the area. For years I've always enjoyed grabbing a meal at the 99 restaurant. The Red Sox won last night so it was kids eat free and I had my son with me. My experience this evening leaves me debating on returning. I ordered their new fried pickle burger cooked WELL done with mashed potatoes on the side. I ate half the burger noticed it was raw so I sent it back. When the new burger came back by the manager it was cooked how I requested and I was satisfied with the burger. However the plate that came back to me was a burger and french fries and not the burger and Mashed potatoes that left. The Waiter came over to me and stated the Manager was not going to charge me for the burger. Now comes the issue.... I asked for the check! They brought me the check saying they could only reduce my burger half off and I would then have to pay for the kids meal. I further stated that I am then paying the exact same amount as if they offered me nothing??? They reduced my burger meal $5.50+- but then charged me $5.50+- for my sons meal. Their Only reasoning was the computer would not let them do it. Management in a restaurant as well established as the 99 should not offer to comp a dish and then come back to me saying the computer wouldn't let them. I paid what I would have paid if they offered me nothing. It's not about the money I don't mind paying for a good meal but my burger was tasteless, under-cooked, and they delivered back different food than what left. I did not ask for any discount I only wanted the meal corrected. It was management who offered to compensate the dish and then charged me what I would have paid in the beginning. I still made sure he tipped the waiter eight dollars for my inexpensive meal because of the additional trips he had to make. If I decide to return to the 99 restaurant I hope to never have this experience again. read more
