Most important, my food was delicious. I had the pesto salmon. Arrived around 7:15 on a Friday and several open tables inside but looked filled up on the outside. I sat at the bar since I was alone. Seemed the dinner rush was slowing down. No desert (only one option). Service was good and friendly. I plan to return.

Street corn fritters and the juniper martini are awesome. Service was great. I'll come back for one of the bigger plates.

Next, they have one of the most beautiful views in Mallets Bay, and you can see from inside and outside the restaurant.

So thought it would be a good choice for dinner. They don't have a website of phone by design so I had no information other then their name/location. Plot twist: their dinner service ended at 9 even though the hours were 5-10. So that in itself is a good reason to have a website OR a phone. We were dropped off to at the charming restaurant via Uber (so lost money there), walked up to very uncomfortable stares from the staff, and were then told we couldn't have dinner. Not the most pleasant experience. The silver lining was the recommendation to go to Hen of the Woods for dinner instead and THAT experience made up for everything

Radicchio salad was tasty. Interesting cocktails. Had the banana dessert, which was good but needed more banana flavors. Had an unusual ice cream as topping with some crunchy nuts I think. All dishes are for sharing. All tasted good but portions are a little small. Figure 75 per person with one cocktail. I'd go back for a special occasion, when I don't want to stuff myself.

I will call it the Edson Hill "experience." Found ever so randomly through a Google search (and really just booked for Christmas dinner--whatever restaurant we could find!), we ended up actually going the following day, for an early dinner, as our last dinner out in Stowe. The 2.6 mile drive down the local, rural road off (Mountain) the main road is what can only be described as a combination of spooky yet mildly thrilling. There was no snow on the ground, but even with blacktop conditions, the road can seem slightly treacherous to some. There were lights of beautiful, big houses in the woodsy distance, but by and large, it is a dark drive at night. So there's that. (I do think that it's probably a very beautiful drive on a beautiful sunny late spring or summer day.) We finally arrive and park in the parking lot. The establishment (much what seemed like all buildings in Stowe are around the holidays) was decked out and lit up beautifully on the outside. The main entrance was not all that conspicuous looking but we opened it and were immediately greeted by a nice man who showed us towards the hostess area. The two hostesses were very friendly, took our coats and showed us to our table. We passed through this incredibly cozy living room space, where what I could assume a guest at the Edson Hill house was relaxing by the fireplace with a book and glass of wine. We stepped into the beautifully decorated Winter Dining Area / Room, where we were the first ones to be seated. It felt like it was our very own private gorgeous space! I absolutely loved the decor and the ambiance was so inviting, cozy yet stylistic in a rustic-chic Vermont way. Margot was our waitress and she was so kind and friendly, helpful along the way with recommendations and eager to answer any questions we had. She also gave us some recommendations for some last minute local Vermont gifts and goodies (think cheese, chocolate, jams, pickles, spicy sauces and of course, MAPLE SYRUP). We ordered 2 non-alcoholic beverages which were delicious and refreshing. Everything at Edson Hill is also locally sourced, as you can see at the bottom of their menu. We had the cheese board - the pickles and pickled carrots paired perfectly with the 4 different cheese we had. The fresh bread was a big hit too, brought out literally seconds before from the oven. The swordfish was so delicious and we also shared the arugula-beet salad. My only slight complaint with my salad was that it was supposed to have candied pecans, which in my opinion, really make the salad extraordinary. There were only about 3 pecans in total. So that was a bummer. We also had hoped the desert that Margot had sold us on would have been a little bit better than it actually was, though it wasn't horrible or anything. 9/10 recommend for an exquisite place! If you can stay here too, I'm sure that is just as divine as the dining experience. Will be returning for sure once back in beautiful Stowe, VT.

Our waitress asked if we wanted everything served at once or in 2 servings. Given we had ordered 6-7 tapas platters and the small table space, we figured 2 servings was a better idea. The first serving compromised of garlic butter sautéed mushrooms (7/10), maple syrup doused grilled eggplant with goat cheese (8/10) and a Spanish charcuterie & cheese plate with olives (6/10). The food was in all great, we finished the first serving pretty fast. We figured the second serving would come more quickly but it never did! By then we were already full and tired. It could've been that the kitchen had already prepared the food and the waitress had too many customers to serve. I called her over and told her I would only pay for the dishes we ate because the food was taking too long to come out. She got defensive and said the food was on its way and ready. I insisted no. After which, I asked if we could pay right away as we had to head out . Another 15-20 min wait as she served others . My impression would be if I had 2 customers that were upset and ready to leave, I would tell the other table " I'll be right back shortly , I just have to close this table off". She had no sense of time! It's too bad that the service can't match their quality of food and atmosphere. Hire more staff because clearly there is a demand for food but a lack of service will bring the hype down.
