We ordered the fried corn as an appetizer. It was crispy and favorable with the sweet and spicy dipping sauce, but not too much corn. For the main dish, we ordered the soft shell crab pad thai, crispy pad thai with crispy chicken, shrimp zaab, and tom yum prawn hot pot. The crispy pad thai, I don't recommend, is fried thin rice noodle with sweet and sour sauce, just taste like the sweet and sour pork that you eat at a Chinese restaurant. For the soft shell crab pad thai, the sauce for the pad thai is a more tangy taste than the pad thai in other Thai restuarant. The shrimp zaab is really spicy with their special sauce but it tastes good, without the sauce, it is just bland steamed shrimp. Tom yum prawn is highly recommended if you have 2 people or more and enjoyed tom yum soup. read more

Ordered take out from here and I'm actually super impressed!! Soft shell crab pad Thai is a MUST try! Their prices Thai comes with a huge piece of egg wrapped around and the soft shell crab was a great size. Their pad Thai is a little bit more on the tangy side in terms of taste but really enjoyable. Big portion and the food was great as left overs. The mixed meat plate (Khao Moo Daeng) came with a lot of sauce. I think if I could have, I would have asked to have less sauce on the rice. But the sauce slices and pork were phenomenal, especially the fried pork with crispy skin! The Thai tea was a perfect pairing with the food. Overall would recommend trying this place. This is my second time coming here and I don't usually go back to a restaurant. You must try their Thai tea, one of the better ones out there. The first time I got the drunken noodles mild, but the mild was still too spicy for me but I powered through because it tasted so good, the texture was perfect. Second time I went with my husband and friend. The pad Thai and pad see eww was good, texture and taste was perfect. My friend got the pineapple fried rice was too salty for me and for him, he couldn't finish it. We also got the mango sticky rice, also really good, warm rice and the right amount of condense milk. I've been seeing press on 9zaab for a while, and I'm glad we finally got to try it. The flavors here are an intense blend of fishy, sour, and spicy, and bring me back to the years I spent in Hollywood's Thai town. I also really appreciated that the menu goes beyond the sweeter, milder, Thai-American dishes. I was most excited to try the mussel omelets. It's a little bit like a Taiwanese oyster omelet, but deep fried so that there's a crisp outer crust. The mussel portion is generous. The bean sprouts underneath the omelet are smoky and eggy and generally great. The only downside of this dish is that it's pretty oily. The jungle beef was tender, spicy, and soured with lime juice. A perfect complement to sticky rice, even if said sticky rice was slightly overcooked and mushy. Laab zaab is laab on top of chewy curly noodles with shrimp on top. The noodles soak up the juices from the zaab, and the shrimp provide a juicy accent. read more

The menu is extensive- you can get drunken noodles, pad thai, tom yum soup etc. I decided to have Tom Yam soup and it was really quite spicy!! They put chicken in it, I would have preferred seafood. The Thai iced tea was nice and sweet, it was the perfect contrast to the super spicy soup. Service was fine, we were the only customers in there at that time. Quite a few people did take out. 9Zaab is a Thai restaurant located on 569 Cambridge Street, in Cambridge MA. The restaurant specializes in Thai street food. It's name hints at the bold flavors and spices of Thailand; Zaab is a Thai traditional word meaning intensely flavored. For appetizer my husband and I tried the veggie dumplings. This unfortunately is not served in the cute weaved baskets that the business owner depicts in their photos. The dumpling is more of a dense and starchy chive cake than what you would normally think of when you think of a dumpling. The outside is fried crispy while the inside is packed with the strong flavors of chives, which is even stronger than scallions/green onion by comparison. I thought this appetizer was very tasty, however, this is a dish to share as it can quickly fill you up as it is so dense. It comes with a brown sauce that is slightly sweet, salty, and sour. We also tried the Hoi Tod, which is a crispy oyster pancake. This dish is extra crispy, well seasoned, and slightly oily. It comes on a stone plate so it is piping hot and still sizzling as it makes its way to your table. The pancake pieces sit on a bed of sautéed bean sprouts and green onions. I wish they used more mussels as many of the pieces I had was mostly dough. I also had one where the beard was not removed from the mussel so that was a bit unappealing. For entree we ordered the prawn Pad Thai and the boat noodle. The prawn Pad Thai was beautifully presented with two large prawns over a bed of pad Thai that is wrapped in a thin layer of fried egg. It was garnished with crushed peanuts and several chive leaves. Unfortunately this dish fell short in terms of flavors. The Pad Thai sauce was not to my liking. It did not have the nice balance of tamarind and sweetness of palm sugar that I am accustomed to. That and the restaurant uses a wider rice noodle which causes it to soak up more of the sauce thus leaving the dish feeling as though not enough sauce was used. The large prawns that was used was dry and flavorless. The boat noodle was bold and full of deep aromatic flavors. The spiciness took me by surprise. You have the option of beef or pork and I chose beef. The dish uses beef tendon, beef balls, and beef shanks. I have only had boat noodles at one other place; Dakzen, in Somerville. I have to say, while the boat noodles at 9Zaab uses higher quality meats and serves a larger portion, the one at Dakzen overall tasted better with its simplistic ingredients. 9Zaab also forgot my pork rinds to top off the dish. For desserts we ordered the sala (red) shaved ice. It had black jelly, palm seeds, cubed white bread that is soaked in condensed milk and a red sala syrup. I believe the waitress said the shaved ice is flavored with sala soda but I could be wrong. It was definitely sitting on either sala soda or syrup. Overall, my six years old enjoyed it but I feel that it is not for someone with a grown-up palate? It has a very artificial flavor to it as nothing in the ingredients was fresh, ie: no fruits. Everything, aside fro the ice and bread) either came from a can or jar and with added preservatives. Assuming that I did not try their best dishes, I am giving them a 3.5 stars and hope to be back to try some other dishes. There is street parking on both sides and metered parking. The good: their tom yum rice is wonderful. Would order again. The quality of the chicken and the beef was surprisingly good. The very bad: the shrimps in my dish were so under-cooked that you could see through the grey flesh in the center! I had to send the dish back twice. I told them to redo it, to avoid risks of food poisoning. But both times, they evidently returned the same dish, with shrimps still raw in the center. I ended up asking for a veggie only version instead, but I could not bear to eat it as I suspected that they just took out the shrimps; the food poisoning risk was too great. read more

Food - - Thai beef strew is amazing. Its pretty spicy but really appetizing with its strong sweet and intense flavor. Don't confuse this stew with traditional American style stew. This is not thick like gravy but just heavy with Thai spices so don't be alarmed if it is not as thick as regular stew. The assorted tendons and chunky beef really hits the spot. It comes in a large container over a small burner that keeps the stew bubbling. Its got some bean sprouts and veggies in there to top off. - Softshell crab Pad Thai is as its name describes, its literally small crab that's fried to points that its shell is edible. Its actually a whole crab. Good to try once but not eat regularly. The pad thai itself was less sweet than traditional but some folks like this more than the intense overwhelming flavor of pad thai at other restaurants. Good for elderly folks or folks sensitive to salty foods. - Khao Mun Gai is sort of like the Hainese Chicken you get from malaysian restaurants. This version has a spicy garlic sauce instead of the ginger scallion sauce. The rice is almost the same as it is chicken flavored rice. Very good and great comfort food. Parking is going to be a pain, unless you're patient and willing to loop around a bit. Service is very good. The restaurant owner pretty much runs around doing all he can along with waitress. Place is small for dine in so max is like 6 customers for table. They have mostly 2-4 people tables. Overall, great place for Thai street food and menu items you usually don't see from local thai restaurants. Highly recommend everyone try this place at least once. read more

My go to Thai spot in Boston. I've dined in several times during which the service was quick and friendly. Decor reminds me of local restaurants I came across in Bangkok or Chiang Mai - simplistic design with a Buddha worship station in the corner. I've also ordered delivery 10+ times, never to be disappointed. Pad Thai, papaya salad, mango curry, fried chicken are my favorite. The food is always fresh and good portions. Spice level can be adjusted, but if it's bland it isn't authentic Thai food so I recommend choosing medium spice level. The only dish I'd say to avoid is the poached chicken dish from the street foods section of the menu. Ordered it twice and it smells like live chicken. Overall, everything was delicious! We all agreed that the moo krob fried rice was the best dish out of the bunch. Everything was also perfectly spicy and at the right level request. The Thai iced tea is a MUST GET! - So delicious and compliments all the spicy foods we were eating. Kicking off a star for the moo ping and drunken noodles. The moo ping was fun to try, but for 3 skewers and around a 1/2 cup of sticky rice, it was not worth $10.95. As for the drunken noodles, the noodle to meat to veggie ratio was a bit off. Not enough noodle for all the veggies and protein that was being served. Would I come again? Possibly. I am curious about the other items on their menu. We came here during right at the beginning of dinner time, so the restaurant was still fairly empty at this time. The restaurant had a nice cozy environment and there was a beautiful mural painted on their wall. On the tv they were playing videos of the well known YouTube foodie, Mark Wiens. We were seated immediately and at first glance at the menu, the many selections of Thai street food to choose from. We decided to get 2 appetizers, a salad and a bowl of noodles for each of us. For appetizers, we got the Thai Fish Cake and Chicken Satay. The Thai Fish cakes was fried and very flavorful. They had a side of sweet sauce to coat the fish cakes. It gave it a nice flavor depth and profile. The chicken satay was very tender and you can easily remove the chicken from the stick. There was a choice of peanut sauce or the sweet sauce to dip the chicken satay in. The chicken was very moist and fell apart easily when we took the first bite. As for the salad, we got the Papaya Salad (Thai Original), which had shredded green papaya, shrimp, carrots, string beans and tomatoes covered in spicy lime juice. For the noodles, I got the Boat Noodles and my boyfriend got the Ba Mee Moo Dang. They offered either a dry version or soup version for you to choose from for the Ba Mee Moo Dang. The Boat Noodles was very tasty and had a great flavor profile. The meat pretty tender and there a multitude of other ingredients in the soup. The spiciness in the soup noodles offered a nice kick and heat for the chilly weather. They have a wheel that you can spin if you order more then $60 of food. Unfortunately, we were a few bucks short from being able to spin the wheel. For Thai street food, this is the place to come to. They offer so many variety of food to choose from and you'll definitely want to come back to try some other ones next time. read more

Not a single piece of green onion visible and overfried. The veggie dumplings were excellent! They don't have wrappers, they are just minced vegetables cut into triangles and fries. And we loved them! My dinner was good, but not amazing. A number of my fellow diners were unsatisfied with their meals. Just tried this place today as I was craving some Thai food! The people working here were really nice. The restaurant was clean and empty, but it got busy right after we sat down. There is meter parking right out from and Cambridge resident parking on the side streets. We ordered crab rangoons, which came with five pieces. Very good and fresh. We had the mango fried rice with shrimp, which was tasty and had a big ginger flavor. My favorite was the pineapple fried rice with shrimp which had cashews and raisins in it. The curry puffs were frozen solid on the inside when they came to our table. I let our waitress know and she brought some other ones, however these looked like they were nuked. So safe to say, they're not fresh at all. The masaman chicken curry was watery. It needed to simmer and the carrots inside were limp and tasted old. The rice that came with it was not washed because I had to keep picking black specks out of it. It was unclean rice. The mangrove fried rice, didn't taste like anything special. The "crispy chicken " was just chicken bits that were thrown in some type of batter so it was 75%batter with some chicken. I honestly will never return here and I was excited to try it out. The taste is quite typical, nothing unique but still good enough to order when you have a craving for Thai. The steamed gyoza was more skin than meat which isn't a problem for me since I enjoy the skin portion more. However, the soy sauce definitely had added sugar and the stuffing was too veggie heavy for my taste. I also had the beef Thai fried rice which was as expected. Again, nothing great but also not bad, a solid 3/5 on taste. The atmosphere is small but clean and bright, and the service is great. Very attentive staff. Khao Moo Daeng is a popular dish, tried and think it is just an OK dish. Their fried rice is average, could use some more seasoning. We also tried Pad Thai and it was nothing to write home about. But so far my favorite dish to eat there is Thai Veg Dumpling (very different from your typical dumplings, you do not know what you are missing until you try it). We usually don't find them on the menu at most Thai restaurants , so when we saw them on the menu here, we were super excited and they did NOT disappoint! This is a new Thai place. It's spacious (very few seats) and they have some good dishes. We ordered the Tom kha ga soup, the Tom yum fried rice with duck, and the beef noodles. The soup is basically coconut milk + mushrooms so beware if you don't like that combo. (There are.only 2 shrimps in it.) The other two dishes were alright.
