I've recently moved into the area from New York and visited the store with my friend since we were exploring my new neighborhood. I've always loved Aesop products and love to visit their store but never purchased anything (until this visit). I would say a lot had to do with the genuine encounter with the sales rep, Astrid who was very knowledgeable and intentional with the products they recommended. They were very attentive with what scents I was into and what would complement my style. The whole experience was so lighthearted but also very informative, Astrid knew what they were talking about when it comes to scents and even aesthetics. I was visiting my best friend who just moved back to Cali from New York, and since she lives about ten minutes from Abbott Kinney, we wandered through a few fragrance shops. I'd already bought some samples at another store, but the service there was pretty hands‑off. As we walked by, something about the aesthetic caught my eye, but it was the inviting scent -- the kind that makes you want to linger -- that pulled me right through the door. I complimented the representative, Astrid, on how incredible everything felt the moment we stepped inside, and he immediately brought over a candle for me to try. From that moment on, he stayed with us and walked us through candles, hand soaps, hand creams, and fragrances with this calm, attentive energy that made the whole experience feel unhurried. One of my favorite parts was the hand‑washing station right in the middle of the store. I didn't even realize it was functional until my friend started washing her hands mid‑conversation. Astrid invited her to try the Reverence Aromatique Hand Wash, and as he was describing the texture, the exfoliation, the creaminess -- I couldn't help but join in and see for myself. The scent, the hand feel, the way it exfoliated without drying my skin at all -- it was divine. He followed it with the Eleos Aromatique Hand Balm, which complemented the soap so well it felt like the two were meant to go together. At one point he even joked about the working shower they have in the back stocked with product, which made us laugh. With my background in sales, I can tell you he's genuinely talented -- personable, kind, knowledgeable, and somehow persuasive in the most subtle way. I didn't feel pushed at all, but I absolutely felt sold. I was genuinely compelled to buy some of the products based on the interaction with him alone. I bought the hand balm he recommended and have been using it nonstop, while my friend grabbed the Reverence hand soap. But I can't stop thinking about that hand soap -- I took a picture of it so I'd remember exactly which one I'm coming back for. I also felt genuinely seen by Astrid -- like every curiosity had space and every question was met with intention. Meanwhile, Le Labo down the street was overwhelming: so many scents, little to no input, just "what did you like?" No journey through the notes, no sensory experience, nothing immersive. After that, the difference was night and day. Aesop actually feels like they care about the experience -- and having someone like Astrid on the floor proves it. Honestly, after reading some of the existing reviews, I realize my experience at Aesop was completely unlike the negative ones -- I went in expecting nothing, and they exceeded everything, enough that I had to sit down and write a review. read more

The product s from this Aussie company are pretty spectacular and I've been using them for years. Additionally, the stores are beautiful and a work of architecture. Abbot Kinney is no exception. Beautiful and inviting...retaining some of the structures original charm. Love the cast iron sink. The service by Dana was amazing.. she felt like family. And they had wine and cheese to cleanse my pallet between scent trials. I chose Marrakech intense because I love cardamom. I also bought some other goodies. Really great service, good quality products. The incense may be a little pricey, $48 for a small box, but it's the highest quality Japanese, and since I have seen outside of Japan. In the bath care products and hand sanitizers are amazing as well. Again, not cheap, but you're not going here for price. You're going here for quality. The Aēsop on Abbot Kinney is the first of what will soon be nearly a dozen Aēsop stores in the L.A. area. I had visited most of them but never the Venice store until today. Service is friendly and helpful, as is the standard with Aēsop (most of the time). The store went through a redesign recently, though, that didn't do it any favors: There's a shower stall in the center of the store, for one thing. I'd heard about the shower stall they were going to add to the Venice store, but either no one seriously planned for it to be put into any real use, or the architect must think L.A. is a city full of casual exhibitionists because there simple metal tube has no area to change, hold clothing, store towels, etc. ― there's no way to maintain any sort of privacy. The store has gone so far as to turn the water off to it, that's what a waste it is. The rest of the design is just white, white, white, plain and boring. It's the worst Aēsop design I've ever seen, honestly. I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come for the new L'Oréal era. For the austere and stupid design that makes me sad, one star removed. read more

If you are Asian and worried about discrimination during the current coronavirus situation, don't come here. In fact, avoid all of Abbot Kinney. (See my review for Robert Graham just down the street.) I was hesitant to write this review, but after reading some of the other reviews for this store, I see there is a history of microaggressions toward minorities from the salespeople, so sadly this feels pertinent. I was there last Sunday with my friends. All three of us are Asian Americans in our 30s, born and raised in California. We asked for a sample of the mouthwash. The woman gave a sample in front of a sink. So after we tried the sample of the mouthwash, we spat it out into the sink. "DON'T SPIT!" she cried out, and literally everyone in the store turned to stare at us. I felt like the three of us had all morphed into giant coronaviruses. It was pretty humiliating. (By the way, who swallows mouthwash? Isn't it natural to spit mouthwash after you put it in your mouth? I was mindboggled. Furthermore, we had already spat out the mouthwash when she freaked out at us. Why not just discretely clean the sink and be respectful to your customers?) Anyway, it was some of the more overt racism I've encountered in all my life being a native Angeleno. I understand that these are special times, but the lack of discretion and the blatant shaming was absolutely unacceptable from sales reps at such an expensive brand. To make matters worse, my friend then tried to buy the mouthwash (maybe he wanted to alleviate the tension, bless him), and she said okay, but then turned to help someone else and ignored us. That CONFIRMED it to me that we weren't welcome there. So we left. Like I said before, I wasn't going to say anything, but judging from the other reviews there seems to be a racial tinge to this place, so this is my truth. I'm updating my review because of the "note" that was left by someone on this review which is clearly someone sent by the worker who I mentioned was incredibly rude. This comment stated that he was in the store and witnessed the exchange, defending the worker, but NO ONE ELSE WAS IN THE STORE. We were literally let in by the worker because they have a rope at the door and the worker was gone at first so myself and my three friends were let in and NO ONE ELSE WAS THERE. Aesop your worker is sending people to try to defend him on these reviews. Again NO ONE ELSE WAS IN THE STORE it was literally only us, no one else could have "seen this" and even if the person was outside waiting to come in they wouldn't have actually experienced his behavior they would've witnessed it "from afar". Furthermore, in what world is it required to ask permission to use a bathroom at a public store? Do you go into Nordstrom and ask to use the bathroom? I love Aesop. I live for earthy ethereal fragrances and body stuff. This shop on Abbot Kinney is the bees knees. I wish I had more time, so that I could enjoy the patio, but I had somewhere to be. I had a very nice and relaxing cup of tea while I was there talking fragrance with the employees. They were very lovely girls who were equally helpful. I bought the Marrakech perfume roll-on, and the ahem...post poo drops. Fabulous way to keep my ladies room, smelling like one. Just a couple of drops in the throne, and you'll leave the bathroom smelling like there was a royal visit from the queen. Lol... I also put a couple drops in a decorative bowl of water on my mantle, for a down low room freshener that doesn't require fire (i have a bad habit of falling asleep on candles) or a chemical release into the air, like febreeze... yuck. The drops work great, and I love the fragrance oil. The young lady even have me a fist full of samples of other products that I can't wait to try. Yay! read more

This is the second time I am visiting Aesop on Abbot Kinney and Samuel/Cheyna were such an immense pleasure. Cheyna has such a charming wit about her and Samuel has so much skincare knowledge, a true helper. I repurchased my cologne and got a new face cream for my friends birthday. They really make an effort to be professional and polite and chatted with me about my dog for almost 20 mins. Until today, it was above a year since I've been into this shop to purchase Aēsop products. At the beginning, I attended a store opening event and was assisted by Annie who was very knowledgeable about the world of Aēsop. Fast forward to today, I was headed to work (on Abbot Kinney) and realized I had just run out of deodorant. I popped in for a quick purchase and the whole transaction realized into a truly memorable experience. A refreshing beverage, some helpful advice, and well-placed product garnered two items purchased instead of one. A million-and-one thanks to Matthew for being the guide of hospitality. I'm home now sampling the newest fragrance and planning a moment to return and purchase this item. I'll try the cleanser in the morning derived of parsley seed. A flight to Hong Kong was the trigger of this little delight in my sample collection as I flew Cathay Pacific Airways and a parsley seed toner was provided in my amenities bag while seated in Business Class. Not to bore you further, but it was Matthew and the overall seamless experience of today's transaction resulting in my return to Aēsop AND at this location. Don't worry about price. Great products, and I'm a repeat customer (online and in London), but this was my first, and definitely last visit to this location. A word of advice to the young lady: Don't hover over customers as if you think they going to grab something and do a runner. I've been "shopped" many times before and I know what's going on. The ONLY reason I'd made a purchase and opened a "store profile" as opposed to just putting the bottles on the counter an walking out, was so you would have my contact info and know WITHOUT A DOUBT that I can afford the $140. read more

Came here to buy hair conditioner with a small group. Three of us intended to buy products. The store was closed when we got there and there was a small sign saying the attendant was gone but would be back. He came and we started to browse products. He wasn't able to attend to all of us so he focused on one at a time. So while I was waiting for him to help me find a product I saw an open bathroom and needed to use it. There was no sign indicating it wasn't for customers and it was open and looked like a normal bathroom. While I was using it the salesman started aggressively pounding on the bathroom screaming at me to get out. It was outrageous how he treated me, like a criminal and it really made me feel like trash. How can someone actually scream at a customer for needing a bathroom. If it was private there should have been a sign and it should have been locked. Highly unprofessional and mean staff. read more

Walked in here today without any intentions of purchasing anything form the line... yet. However, that changed due to Matthew's help and amazing customer service! I was blown away by how interactive, non-pushy and genuine he was. He walked me through each question I had and even demonstrated the product on my hand. To top it off, I was offered a beverage and a number of sample packets to try at home. The level of customer service that I experienced today completely blew me away, something I've yet to experience at a Kiehl's or Malin + Goetz store. Aesop had three pumps of their products outside the shop for passersby to sample. I loved the Rind balm, a nice grapefruit-scented lotion, and decided to check out the shop. While the products do seem to be high quality, I just can't justify spending $97 on a bottle of lotion regardless of the fancy ingredients or special properties. I'm probably not their target market, though! I would rather buy something organic and also high quality at Whole Foods that's a fraction of the price. If you like nice-smelling body & haircare products it's worth checking out though. read more

I Went in on weekday afternoon after checking out the new Green tea place. This woman kept asking " anything else? Anything else?" About 5 times while I was still looking around after choosing 2 items already. ($70) Was not offered any samples and she first tried to put the glass bottles in the paper bag only. Plain Stupid or discriminating... Asked the difference between 2 products that look the same, spoke very fast. Never happens at Barneys or Neiman Marcus... Walking up and down Abbot Kinney, we were finished with our shopping and were headed back to the car when this shop window caught my eye. I called my boyfriend back and asked if we could make one more stop. Honestly, I didn't even realize it was a skin care (etc) shop until I was already inside but I decided to look around anyway. What I didn't expect was to walk out of there with $80 worth of product! The sales associate, James, was such a sweetheart and absolutely full of knowledge. I've fixed up most of my "blemish" issues lately with a new Clinique routine for the last 6 months but was looking for something to top it all off. Cue James and the Aesop chamomile mud mask. It's $50 for a small pot of it, but the pot should last 6 months if you use it twice a week. It's only been two weeks but I can already tell a major difference-- redness is disappearing, those last stray blemishes that seem to crop up are zapped even faster than before, and my skin has never felt so unbelievably clean (and this is even after my new normal cleansing routine). I've been really into rose scented items lately and couldn't resist grabbing a bottle of body wash from the shelf (it's divine!). James checked us out and threw in a few free samples which I'm excited to try, but haven't gotten around to yet. Aesop is by no means cheap, but so far I think it has been worth every penny and then some. Big glowing 5 stars for both the products and the staff! Im new to the Aesop brand and looooove the resurrection hand lotion. It is the most unique melangerie of scents that blends in so beautifully. Lovely experience! Heroic! Was treated to what seemed like a mini spa treatment with no real pressure to buy (though my intention to buy was there). I happily walked out the store with a bottle of face cleanser and a ton of samples, looking forward to using them, when I accidentally dropped the lovely bag and bottle on the sidewalk and it cracked open. (Any effort of acting cool on Abbot Kinney was crushed). I thought - "right, Ill come back in 3 months to purchase a new bottle as that's how long it's meant to last", and thought I'd ask for a paper towel from the store to clean up, not expecting any help. When one of the employees was an angel and guided me to the bathroom to clean off my cleanser-covered hands. They gave me a replacement bottle and a free sample of shampoo. They saved my day! I actually don't remember how I heard about this product line but I am so glad I found it. It might have been Venice, CA. At any rate, I've been using some core products for at least 5 years now and I haven't had a reason to switch (except I do use a drugstore brand cleansing wipe for make-up removal). The best thing I can say about these products is that they make my face & skin feel the closest thing to natural compared to any other product line I've used in the past. The Aesop products I've used so far go on smoothly, hydrate, do not clog pores or interfere with make-up used over top and they make your skin glow. The simplicity of the product line works together to give your skin exactly what it needs. I am modest in my product use but my favorites include Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Treatment, Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque, Mandarin Hydrating Facial Cream, Tea Tree Leaf Facial Exfoliant, Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Toner, Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Eye Cream and I love the body balms too. My skin now is the most balanced it has ever been and I rarely ever breakout. You have to try adding one product to your existing regime - Aesop will send you samples of products you can try for future consideration. I finally love my skin. read more
