Made a hair appointment , stayed in traffic for an hour and a half . Called in advance to say I was running 10 min late ,which they said was fine . Just to show up and get told the appointment would take too long and she (the manager hair stylist ) needs to be out by 830.. If there was a time constraint why didn't she reach out in advance to discuss the details of services , or perhaps mention that when I say I'm in traffic and running late . Came into today and asked if they had stock of a product she said was it out on the shelf, looked at her completely shocked, I asked if she could check, and she just asked me everyone else if they had it without even checking. I was on a mission when I went for hair paste. I don't like big stores like this because I have no clue where to start and quickly get overwhelmed. Well, a lovely young lady, Asia, immediately greeted me and asked me if I needed help, which I did. I explained what I was looking for and she took me straight to the section. We discussed the options and she suggested one that she actually uses. I also ended up finding a product that I hadn't been able to find for the last couple of years! This is a large store and fully stocked with merchandise. I was looking for the newly released shades of lipstick Most of the stores I went to were sold out. This location did not let me down. I didn't come when they had the sale on all of the other shades of lipstick. I also needed to replace my bottle of WOW hair heat protection. I was able to purchase both items and not stand in a long line nor pay for parking at this location. The parking is free and easy. The coupons are a great savings. I have truly never had such an upsetting experience at any establishment. I needed to return an online order because the item, which was a gift, arrived broken. Since the store did not have the item in stock, I was told they could not process the return and could only issue a refund to the original purchaser. When I asked to speak to a manager, I later found out that all associates are referred to as "managers." The head manager, Kandy (whose name I only noticed later), told me I was "full of hate" and refused to assist me. I now realize the reason for this reaction was that I mistakenly referred to Kandy as "he." Kandy had a beard, and I had no indication that this was not the correct pronoun. While I understand the importance of respecting everyone's identity, I am disappointed that a large company would allow an employee to speak to a customer in such a manner. I approached the situation with no ill intent, and instead of handling the misunderstanding professionally, I was met with hostility and denied assistance for a legitimate issue. I hope this concern is addressed to ensure that all customers are treated with respect and professionalism in the future. read more

Leaving me in the hands of a very inexperienced assistant. I left looking like a clown. I cried my eyes out for weeks bc I hated my hair. Never again will I return here. This stylist was careless, reckless, and sloppy. No type of knowledge on how to do hair. when I called the next day to see if she can correct the orange yellow highlight they said I had to pay for another service. I've been here twice even though I live a couple blocks down, and don't get me wrong I am always welcomed in, however never can find an employee on the floor. It is pretty hard to look for things sometimes and when I do see an employee they are always running around or try to avoid me it feels like. Cashiers are always dry and uninterested the only time they say anything is when trying to get you to sign up for the credit card. I try to avoid this location because of these reasons and I go out of my way to go to the Santa Monica location instead, much nicer employees don't waste your time here! :) read more

Popped in to buy some travel-sized skincare products. I feel like their travel sized section which is right by the cashier has grown which is very convenient. I prefer buying the smaller version of new products before investing in a full size. The store is bright, clean and not too crowded. I have been going to Ulta salons for over 3 years. This was my first time getting a "partial highlight" done at this location. Beware. You are just a number here. Every stylist here I see is trying to get everyone in and out like an assembly line. Worst part is that my highlight job was awful from the experience to the results. As you can see in the photo,the stylist (Maria C.) left an entire chunk out in the front of my hair! Are you serious? Not to mention at the beginning of the appointment she only pulled back only a mohawk portion to highlight. Never have I ever only had that portion highlighted for a partial highlight with my past experience with Ulta. Descriptions are stated the exact same when booking at other locations. The manager came over and they stated that this is their policy and only framing the face as well. Guess what, Nothing was highlighted around my face either. So now I have a chunk missing highlight in the front, and when I pull my hair up, nothing is lightened on the sides of my face. A partial highlight is for "Coverage for approximately half of the head"-nope not at this location. This was the biggest waste of money. I was never offered any water, and I was uncomfortable in the washing chair. Never offered a stool to support my feet as I was sliding down. As soon as I saw the results post wash, I left. Couldn't stand the results or the terrible customer service any longer. Waste of money and now I have to get it corrected. Did not meet my standards. Absolutely no excuse for this terrible highlight job, the photo speaks for itself. Update: Guest services at this location reached out to me and listened to my concerns. She reassured me that I was in fact correct and the team was educated/corrected. Caesar the district educator ended up fixing my hair. Unfortunate I had to come in and spend more of my time here but at least it was corrected. I truly hope the stylists have learned from this experience. I still will no longer come back to this location due to quality of the stylists and mistrust. Overall unfortunate situation. read more

Came here last week to get my hair colored. Showed the stylist what I wanted (copper red) my hair was blonde with some brunette on top. Stylist said this was very doable and no bleaching would be needed. I asked multiple times so make sure that the photo I was showing was doable. I left the salon with a dark auburn brown. More brown than red. As well as paying about 100 dollars more than planned. The prices weren't discussed (just what I had booked on the website) and I felt pressured into a haircut that wasn't needed. I left and just kept saying to the stylist "it'll wash out it'll wash out" it hasn't gotten much lighter if anything it's more brown. And parts are even streaky. I very much regret going here to get my hair done. read more

I love shopping at ULTA but today was not a pleasant experience. There are too many customers and the wait time was insane maybe over 20 minutes. There were two cashiers but this still took a long time and the customers were ridiculous. Finally when I just wanted to pay for 2 items my transaction took less than a minute. I made an appointment with Maria, the makeup stylist, after my Macy's makeup appointment was canceled last minute. I was going to a "black tie formal wedding" and I had never done this makeup thing before. Plus I don't know what was going on event wise in LA but everyone was busy. I was fortunate enough to get Maria. She was fantastic, attentive, and patient. She used the foundation I normally use and glamed me up perfectly. This ULTA location customer service is TRASH. No one asked if I needed help. I finally found someone to asked if they had a certain makeup brush. The lady went to the back, but NEVER came to find me. I finally decided to check out and the girl states I found the brush, but it's pricey. I'm sorry I did not ask you for the price I asked if you had the make up brush. The price of the brush was $6.00. Nothing bothers me more when I asked for something people will proceed to tell you the price. I only go to this ULTA because it's close to my job. Eileen is FANTASTIC! This was my first time going to a salon to have someone else do my hair, it's curly frizzy and unmanageable most days. Eileen cut colored conditioned and STYLED my hair perfectly! I'm amazed! She even took the time to show me the easiest ways to maintain the styling, and recommended some shampoos and conditioners that are a GAME CHANGER! I stopped into this location for the first time today. I had a gift card that I wanted to use. There were several items that I needed. The gal that helped me was super pleasant & helpful. She was able to help me with the items (lip liner, eye concealer, & translucent powder compact). It's always a good feeling when one finds necessary items. This is a review specifically for Maria P. - master stylist at the Ulta Salon. She is wonderful! Total fluke that I ended up with her for a last minute blowdry and I got so lucky. She is knowledgeable, knew how tame my very coarse hair and just had the best bed-side manner. This was really one of the best wavy blowouts I've had in a really long time. You also can't beat Ulta's prices for a blow-out, without up-charging, especially for an expensive area such as Marina del Rey. I'm almost reluctant to post this review because I don't want Maria to get too busy to take me in the future. :) read more

After my review about them profiling and harassing certain people around their store, Ulta left a response claiming that I should reach out to them to solve the issue. This response seems to be only for show. I called the number. It's a regular customer service line with no ability to take the reference number that they posted below. The associate I spoke to was not even familiar with what Yelp was. All he was able to do was to take my complaint, which I had already made. The store still has security follow certain people around and harass them. I will not patronize Ulta or any other business that profiles people and makes them feel horrible while shopping.
