Well let's just start by saying they beat the competition not just in price but in customer service as well. They sent a professional to do the estimate and when he was done he said " this is a big job so I want you to shop around and make sure your getting the best rate for the job" and I did just that his pricing was spot on. Less than 1 star, the guy acted as if I owed him money just for him to answer the call. The 4 hour time window should just be clear your schedule for the whole week because who knows when we can actually get to you. And when I mentioned their rate seemed high compared to some of the other companies, the guy got super defensive and tried to mansplain me, yes mansplain.. I am a man who is in the carpentry field mind you.. This is the response I got from the OWNER of the company to my review- "I find it quite interesting that you are calling my company unethical and dishonest because you want us to FALSIFY DOCUMENTS so that you can sell your home. I just find it so unbelievable that there exist such people that are not willing to listen at all to their supposed clients/customers. I never asked anyone to falsify anything. I accept that my one chimney needs repair. I never disputed that. The technician from A1 Affordable came as part of a confirmed appointment for a "Sweep and Inspect" of TWO chimneys. The technician that came over said to us multiple times that one chimney needs repair, the other one does not, it is certifiable. The people at this company, including the OWNER, are still refusing to give us any documentation that they inspected the other chimney (the one that does not need any work) unless we fill their pockets with money (ie, hire them to fix the one chimney that needs work). We just needed the documentation in order to sell our house. And now our house sale is delayed just because of corrupt, unethical, inconsiderate, money-hungry businesspeople such as these at A1 Affordable. Thank goodness we found another company (American Chimney) who is coming tomorrow and will provide us with the proper documentation for the sale of our house to proceed (with just a slight delay which we could have avoided if I had called American Chimney in the first place). All they could send us as a written document was a proposal for the $4,200 work that needed to be done for one of the fireplaces; they keep refusing to send us a document that shows that the other fireplace/chimney was inspected and that it did not need such work UNLESS we book their services for the proposed repair. The owner of the company called me made outrageous accusations against me and spoke with me in a very condescending rude way. Now the sale of my home is in significant jeopardy (all because this company refuses to give us a document for a service unless we book their services). Called A-1 on Friday and scheduled an appointment for a sidewalk inspection for repair. I guess their time is more valuable then mine because I left work early to meet them and they never showed. You have to love these contractors that just blow off a potential customers like its nothing. When I called today they told me "I should have gotten the woman's name on the phone who scheduled the appointment. I had no idea I worked for a contractor and its my fault. Finding a good contractor in North Jersey shouldn't be this difficult but all I see if too expensive because "we are in Bergan County", half ass work or no shows. Last week after we had an annual maintenance of our oil burner, our serviceman asked if we had ever had our chimney inspected. We told him that we had not. He referred A-1 Affordable. We contacted them and they performed an inspection of our chimney. They took pictures of the inside and upon review we saw that the tile inside was worn and had separations which was confirmed by the serviceman. This could lead to a potential fire in the chimney. They suggested, not forced us to think about having the installation of a new liner in the chimney with a cap. We agreed to have this done. Rather than having to wait to set up an appointment, they indicated they could do this the same day. That afternoon they were able to install the new liner and cap. They also repaired the outside of the chimney. We found their work to be very professional and clean. read more

I had A-1 return in May of 2023 to do chimney cleaning on both the furnace and fireplaces (2) chimney's. They had installed a liner in the furnace chimney in 2021 and that is holding up great and was a quick clean. One fireplace (the less used one) was found to be clean and not needing any attention while the main fireplace was found to have issues of cracks and deteriorating liner. (I've only lived here 2 yrs and checked my home inspection to find the same issues listed in "things to take care of in the future".) My choices were to have a stainless steel liner installed after having the cracks filled or go with a spray on ceramic liner which is guaranteed for life. The spray on is more economical and I was shown a short video on how it is applied. I went with it, the work was done by A-1 trained/certified installers on May 11, 2023. A three man crew arrived to do the work, they were careful on setting up , worked efficiently and as a well trained team, were respectful of the property and of the living room where the fireplace is and had mechanically cleaned the chimney in preparation of spraying on the liner. This is a clean installation, nothing , no dust, no odors, no overspray comes into the living area and you do not need to leave the inside of the house while it is being done. It takes about a half a day to have this done, but when it is done, the chimney is set for life. And yes, they show you pictures before and after the work is done, they allow you to look up into the chimney to check it out before they leave and they clean up nicely before they leave. AFTER NOT SHOWING UP FOR 3 DAYS ON THE 4th day running late. A truck with two guys shows up with NO tools and said they're only hear to sell the job. After voicing my frustration they walked off the job. Office told me they were coming to do the job. A+ rating with the BBB. No way. Never ever use this co I rescheduled to have the job done because they passed the time frame multiple days. I said ifvthe techs were backed up i could be bumped (trying to be nice) The final day I was supposed to be first stop of the day at 945 I called in and was told they were running late because they were prepping the truck to do the job. As for the extent of "cursing" at the guy that actually got out of the truck while the other one remained in the vehicle that had not so much as a single tool in it--- I said BBB a+ my ass. We purchased the building and the chimney was not meeting the local building code and the exhaust pipes from the water heaters and boilers were not installed correctly. A1 fordable did a perfect job in replacing all of the bad components and installing a stainless steel liner in the chimney. I hired them over 5 years ago, to do my porch roof. What a terrible job and still paying for it today. The front part of my porch by the stairs always leaked. I complained and they came in twice to try and fix the problem and still to this day leaks and now causing my trex to come up because of the leak. I've had several people say they did a terrible job, puddles laying on roof, come to realize now that it was also leaking by my tenants window, now the wood is rotten and the trim has fallen due to the water leaking from the roof. I was told to get a roofer to fix the problems because the job was done wrong! I had my chimney relined because I need a new heating system and the chimney and related piping had to be up to code. It cost me $3300 for that, which I thought seemed high. The work was done well, however, and since it is a once in a lifetime job, I'm OK with it. What prompted this review is that I asked for a quote for a new sidewalk. I have a 30' straight sidewalk that includes the entrance to my driveway. When I got a $6000 quote I almost fell over. My entire heating system will be a little more than that! They show up to sweep my chimneys. I noticed when they left that they left all cups on the chimneys unscrewed. When I called back the men had a nerve to tell me that everything is secure.All the screws from being all in are sticking out now about 2". They left me with unscrewed cups until next day. The men name Rod wanted to send me a pictures proving that everything is secured like I have nothing else to do but make up the stories. I do not want this people to touch anything on my property anymore. Who knows what they capable of if they treat customers like that. I need to find somebody to fix their screw up. This company was referred to me by my family friend plumber, John Go. They came the same day to give me an estimate for a chimney liner. The estimate was very thorough with several pictures and a verbal and written explanation of the work needed. The cost was very reasonable, $2,300 for a new chimney liner, 2 galvanized connections for my water heater and furnace, and stainless steel cap. They were available the next day (Saturday) for the work, but when I declined due to a family party, they quickly offered me another appointment for Tuesday. I received a phone call 45 minutes in advance telling me my technicians would be there between 4-4:30. They arrived at 4:15, were very polite, considerate, and FAST! They kept me informed of their progress, and worked into the evening to complete the job in one day. I used A1 after Superstorm Sandy. We had lost some roofing shingles. A1 came and gave a quote with a fair price, and completed the work efficiently. No roof problems afterward. Since A1 was good then, I recently had them back to fix the flashing around our chimney. Again they quoted a fair price, came and did the job efficiently and provided a year gaurantee on the work. I had an extremely poor experience with A1 this week. On 11/7/18, they were supposed to work in conjunction with PSEG at my home when I purchased a new furnace (to do the chimney portion) but they never showed; someone from A1 said they never noticed the email. I had to call to see what happened and when someone would be completing the work that was promised. When A1 finally came to do the work on 11/8/18 one of the workers disconnected something from my boiler ( that they were not there to service and should not have been touching) and caused me to have no heat for the entire night (I was not aware of their huge mistake until hours after they left). I had to call PSEG to fix the mess A1 made and had to wait until the next day for service. After all of their mistakes their customer service representative just kept telling me how I was lucky I was getting it done missing the fact that my time was wasted because they were negligence on 2 consecutive occasions. Don't waste your time! They gave me a window from 9am -12pm and said they would call me 30minutes before they get there. At 11am I got a call saying the person was on his way. From then on until 2pm I received a calls saying the person would be there soon. They continued to call me non-stop even after I cancelled the appointment. This was only for an estimate. Scam! They came to our house and told us we needed to spend $2500 to fix our "fire wall" and that it was "cracked". I had two other companies to come and check it out to compare pricing and both of them (who are ranked top companies in Westchester for this kind of work) said that our fireplace is in MINT condition.
