Used this company to get my steps done they took about 2 weeks to finish. All seemed well until the inspector came by an examined the steps, it failed. Over a month later the permit is still open and the work is unfinished. There is currently a large pile of dirt in front of my house and a large hole next to my stairs. I do not recommend this company to anyone who wants to avoid a headache, due to the lack of communication and work ethic. We scheduled the chimney cleaning through our oil company, who uses A-1. There was a scheduling conflict with our first appointment, but we weren't in a hurry. The customer service rep was friendly and helpful and worked with us to schedule a new time. When that appointment rolled around there was conflict on our part but once again the customer service rep worked with us and was able to get the service technician in later that morning who was also friendly and courteous. He and his co-worker did the job leaving their work area clean. We would recommend A-1 and will be calling to have our fireplace chimney cleaned as well. read more

After our heating company recommended A1 for chimney cleaning, the company was prompt with scheduling and did a nice job taking care of our aging chimney. They also suggested a liner - not surprisingly - but we had been told that before and put it off. When we were ready to move forward with that, A1 gave us a reasonable quote and again scheduled the work within no time. The crew that came was knowledgeable and worked quickly. We feel more confident with the safety of our heating system now. The warranty is only valid if you continue to have the system cleaned by them each year, but I'm happy to have them back to service the new liner. read more

Do not call this company. They have no regard for other peoples time. I had an appt on a Tuesday morning from 9-1 . No one showed. I called and they said they were over booked and switched my appointment to Thursday morning between 9-1. Again on Thursday no one showed.they called me at 8:15am to confirm my appt, still no show. I called at 12:45 was on hold for 11 minutes they finally said the technician was calling me now .20 minutes later he called and said hes busy on a job sight and won't get to me for another hr. I cancelled him and contacted the supervisor at the office to let her know how unprofessional the company is being run and there customer service was awful. Have use A1 for many years for seasonal gutter cleaning- they always do an excellent job, are well priced and come on time when scheduled. Recently they did a larger job to repair my damaged chimney and again- did an excellent job and completed the work in one day as scheduled. I have to admit that my experience with this company is very different from others that have reviewed here. I had a problem with my chimney that I needed an estimate on right away. I called three companies before calling a1. I called a1 around 11:30 on a weekday, and they were the first company to arrive for the estimate. They were at my house by 12:15. The quote they gave me ended up being among the better quotes I received that day. I ended up choosing them to do the job. They were very good about setting up a day to do the work. They gave me a time of between 9-12, they were here at 9:30. The job was completed as promised, any questions I had were answered, and they left my house clean. I had somebody call me to make sure everything went well and to see if I had any complaints. Maybe it is because I am also in Clifton, or maybe they are trying to change the bad reviews, but I was happy with the job they did. read more

I recently retired after 37 years in the Public Works business, with the past 13 as Director of Public Works for an Army Installation. I know good customer service and quality workmanship. From the time the serviceman Chris showed up to inspect my chimney through the work done by Eddie and his crew to install a stainless steel liner the work was done professionally. Chris provide me pictures of the areas needing repair and a detailed estimate of the work required. Eddie and his crew arrived within 2 hours of Chris notifying them of the work. Their workmanship was superb, the job site was cleaned and neat when they left. Both foreman were a pleasure to speak with and answered any question completely. I will be recommending to my neighbors that they also have their chimneys inspected by A-1 as several houses on the block were constructed in similar manner. read more

The technician Manny was professional and courteous and was happy to answer all of my questions. I have had the displeasure of trying to schedule this company to come and take a look at a roof leak in a complex 3 times. First 2 times the appointment was scheduled between 9-4 and no one bothered to neither call me or the resident to advise that they were running late. The third time I was promised to be the 1st call in the morning, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 4 om came around and still no technician, no call to advise that they are running late. Think twice and read as many reviews as you can before engaging with A-1 Affordable. Yes, the work was done but like others reviewers have noted, lots of missed appointments. They didn't start work when they called to tell me they were going to. They didn't finish the work when they said they were going to despite calls telling me they were coming. They finally DID show up to finish the job a week after they told me they were coming and then within five minutes of the workers leaving, they were calling asking for payment. IF you do decide to use A-1 Affordable, be sure to get a DETAILED estimate prior to agreeing to the work. I received a price, written on the back of a business card. When the bill arrived, there was a line item indicating NEW bricks were included in the price. When I said my existing bricks were used, the billing clerk told me that it was a mistake and sent me a new invoice. The above company was contracted to replace two front steps and repair cracked concrete. I was not happy with the job and contacted the company immediately. The owner Mr. George Solimene came to my home and inspected the job. He agreed that the steps were not pitched correctly and cracked needed to be filled in properly. CONSUMER BEWARE!!!!! DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!!! The "Supervisor" Eric has to have the worst customer service I have ever seen in any industry. I explain to him that in 9/2018 I had my chimney cleaned by A-1 Affordable Construction and I started to experience smoke coming back into my home and decided not to use the fireplace anymore. I failed to call the company back right away because I found out that my wife and I were expecting our 1st child and we didn't feel comfortable using anymore. I had the company come to clean my chimney in 9/2018 the "technician" explained that whoever installed my rain caps to the flues on my home (A-1) added to much adhesive, but guaranteed me they could clean it from the bottom. I said ok no problem and allowed them to continue. A couple weeks later I started the fireplace and started to get smoke inside. Today I contacted A-1 and got to speak with Eric who didn't care that I was a returning customer with an issue but was more interested in selling me the recommendations from the prior visit. I told him that I was willing to pay half the inspection/cleaning price to have the chimney ONLY inspected and he said No and would not assist me in any other way unless I was going to be doing the recommended work which was 1,800.00 dollars. All I wanted was to have the rain cap removed and placed back with the proper amount of adhesive so I could have the chimney cleaned from the top down and to check to see if the chimney was good to use. He didn't see it from my point as a concerned parent and more importantly a RETURNING CUSTOMER! Not only did I have them replace the rain cap but I also paid for them to replace the cement crown on my chimney back in 9/2016. I wasn't asking for anything for free since I knew I should have called right away but he didn't see it that way and now A-1 Affordable Construction has lost a customer who will never ever recommend this company to anyone and will let every person I get a chance to talk to who owns a home to STAY AWAY due to the poor customer service provided by Eric who's a SUPERVISOR at A-1 Affordable Construction and how he showed disregard for me and my family safety!! read more

I was a little hesitant about reaching out to this outfit because of the mixed reviews but a contractor I use and trust recommended them so I thought I'd give them a shot. Well, I called a week ago to set up the appointment for an inspection and an estimate for a possible chimney liner, which was fine except they gave me a window between 1pm-5pm. Annoying as that window was, I took off from work and waited. At 4:30 they called and said they had no idea when they were going to get there. I told them that I expected them to be here and get on the roof for the chimney inspection. At 6pm after sunset, and still no arrival, I called and cancelled the appointment. This was a complete waste of my time and an example of very poor business practices. My guess they tried to overbook and put the non-paying estimates at the end of the day. If that is the case then that is a bad strategy because not only are they not getting my business, I already told my referring contractor and anyone else who would listen. read more

My heating oil company hooked me up with an appointment with A-1 when I scheduled my oil burner maintenance appointment. They recommend that the burner chimney/liner is cleaned along with the burner. To encourage customers to do this maintenance work regularly the oil company refers A-1, and in return A-1 offers a nice discount. I was pleasantly surprised by both the confirmation call from their dispatch person and the call ahead from the service man. I was really appreciative of the friendly and careful technicians they sent to my home. They were prompt, courteous and very neat, even taking off boots so as to not get my carpet dirty. Also, I was impressed that the lead tech noticed something that had not been installed properly and had been causing a little issue which needs to be fixed. He did not pressure me to have the work scheduled with him, but agreed the original installer should be called first. Further, when I said I'd be interested in cleaning the 3 fireplace chimneys in my home, he took a careful look at all three and determined that only one needed cleaning and did so. He easily could have tried to rip me off but instead was refreshingly honest. I have already recommended A-1 to a friend and will continue to do so. read more

I had called this company to give me a free estimate. They returned my call quickly and got to work quickly. They did not pressure us into using their company. Although they were working quickly and was finished quickly, they did not listen to what exactly what our problem was and just assumed that whatever they decide will fix the problem. Of course I called them back after a month telling them that what they have done did not fix the problem, they took a longer time to get back to us. They keep saying, "we'll see what we can do" but never called me back to take a look. Make sure you know different materials before these ppl tell you that a specific material is same quality as something better. They replaces two stainless steel liners. One for the furnace and one for the wood stove. They then cleaned the fireplace from the roof.This jammed the fireplace damper.They then had to replace damper at a additional cost of over $600. They did work on the roof to patch cement. They covered it with plastic because it was raining. They said they would remove plastic when the rain stops. As soon as they left I noticed they damaged the gutter. I called and one of the bosses had them return the next day to fix the gutter. While fixing the gutter in the RAIN the removed the plastic off the cement that was not dry. They had to come back and do cement work over.Oh the damper they replaced is on the top of the chimney with a chain down below. They never told me I should have a cap on it. I called and was told yes we can custom make one but thats a lot more money. I told the boss they should of told me all of this up front. First and last time using this far from "affordable" company. I received a window from 2-5pm for a chimney sweep/cleaning. I get a call at 11am stating they have a technician "in the area" and asked if it would be ok if they came early. They tell me they will be there in a few minutes so I leave work early. 2.5 hours go by and still NO technician. I call back and they tell me they were stuck in traffic. 3.5 hours later, the "technician" shows up, doesn't apologize for his tardiness and is gone 20 minutes later without any explanation of the job. I needed to have a chimney liner installed and the chimney rebuilt. I called for a few estimates and a friend of mine suggested that I call A-1. I have nothing but great things to say about their service, professionalism and quality! From the person who answered my call (sorry I forgot her name), to the guy who came out for the estimate to JP and Phil who did the liner and Mike and his partner (forgot his name too) who built the chimney, everyone was amazing! I was shocked when JP asked us to come down to inspect his work to make sure we were happy. My wife commented that they had left the basement area cleaner than it was before they started. Mike and his partner worked on the chimney well passed 7:00 PM and although it was very late, did not leave until they had thoroughly cleaned everything from the roof on down! Not only was their workmanship excellent, they were incredibly friendly and patient and explained what they were going to do, but it was obvious that they all took great pride in their work. I can be tough to deal with and very demanding but these guys Wowed me!!!! read more

These guys came to my mothers house and gave her an estimate to fix her chimney of $4,750. Said the liner was rusted through and it needed to be replaced and made up a whole lot of other things. The stainless steel liner is only 4 years old. They even showed her a picture of the inside of the chimney. I think they have pictures on file of other peoples chimneys that are in bad shape. Anyway, my friend is in the business and he came over to clean and check out the chimney. Only thing wrong was a seal needed replacement. Oh yea, she called A-1 to clean the chimney and they wound up saying all this work needs to be done first. Crooks, taking advantage of an elderly woman really pisses me off. Do not call these people! You will wind up having to take out a 2nd mortgage just to pay them. read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars for this company. They are horrible. Scheduled me 7 weeks in advance and all went smoothly and they stated they would call 2 weeks prior for the first payment. When no one called, I called to question and was bounced around to 4 different people before getting to someone who had a brain. They requested the first payment and I just did not feel right about it and told them I would give them the payment when they came to do my chimney. Needless to say, NO ONE SHOWED! After waiting 7 hours I finally called and they said, Oh, Wascar is stuck on another job and can't make it." Another job? I was supposed to be the first job of the day so how was he on another job....AND, no one was even going to call me to let me know???!!! The customer service at A-1 Affordable Construction, Inc. is anything but what it promises to be. They installed my chimney sleeve on 7/18/18 and as of 12/28/18 it has yet to be inspected. Furthermore, the experiences I have had with trying to get it inspected have been infuriating in having to deal with people who seem like they do not know what they are doing. I have to constantly follow up with them and are constantly promised that I will hear back from them after they have spoken to my township (which they also keep referring to the wrong township) to schedule the inspection, but have never received a call back. In fact, I was even told that someone left me a voicemail, but I did not receive one. I was recently promised that after the holiday (Thanksgiving) they were going to contact the township to schedule and in that same conversation gave me a date of 12/28/18 between 1 and 5. I never received any call back to confirm so the day of I called them to confirm and they were so confused because they didn't have me down for any inspection. I was transferred to a person who once again referred to an incorrect township and confidently said she spoke to me last in November but just called my township yesterday 12/27/18 to schedule the inspection which is now scheduled for 1/24/18 which is 6 months after installation by the way. I in no way recommend this company. Save yourself the time and frustration and go with anybody else. read more

The most unprofessional company in the area. The owner tells you they will come out to give a free estimate same-day and never shows up and never answers after that. The salesmen are highly unreliable and lie just to get money. Save yourself a LOT of time and frustration and call another company. I was lucky, they were so bad at showing up for the job that I cancelled the work. When I got the estimate, the technician did not have a written form. He just wrote the amount on the back of a business card. I scheduled the work and asked for the quote in writing, they sent it and it was not the work we discussed. I was away on vacation at the time and asked via e-mail for clarification. there was no response. The day of the job, no one showed up. I called the office and they said that the technician didn't remember the job. He said he would be there first thing the following morning. Again a no show. no call nothing... I called when they were an hour late and gave me some story about an emergency and insured that someone would be there within the hour. Three hours later they did not show up. Needless to say, I wasn't home and they called me. I told them I was no longer interested in working with them. After reading other customer horror stories, I am relieved that I dodged the bullet. read more
