In one instance they then did research on the issue, and I took the car back (I could only leave it for a day). With the issue still not resolved they did additional research and wrote up a quote for what they believe is causing the issue. They didn't charge me for the first two visits when they could have easily charged for diagnostic/labor time, but they want to get the job done correctly. This type of honesty to their customers is what keeps people coming back!

Unlike any other mechanic I've used before, Smitty's gives straightforward quotes and pricing. The front desk passes appropriate context to the mechanics and the mechanics follow-up with reasonable recommendations. It is the platonic ideal of car repair. Smitty's has taken us on short notice, long notice, quick fixes, longer multi-part a/c investigations, brake replacements and re-replacements, and we'll keep coming back. Wi-fi in the waiting area and easy after-hours dropoff. Signage in the front could be better--it's easy to drive past past it the first time.

I went to garage and spoke with Will. I told him this Corvette is my baby, treat it with love. I was traveling and he said leave it with us, I have a good Chevy mechanic. I came back, the valve cover gaskets were installed and I was road worthy. Mind you, his shop is busy with summer auto problems, I'm thankful he was able to get me zoomin'. The big question is, why do they get 5 stars? When they changed the valve cover gaskets, they took the time to clean off the residue oil that splattered out. It's that attention to detail that gets noticed. I need a steering part, he said he'd order it but haven't heard back. I'm typing this review from the Port Jeff ferry, we're all busy! I had made an appointment for an oil change using a VALID coupon that was advertised on their website and Facebook. When I arrived, I was told they would not honor the valid advertised price because their website hadn't been updated, and they wanted to charge me an additional $20. I was trying to explain in a calm manner why this VIOLATES federal laws like the Federal Trade Commission Act. I was truly shocked that a small business like this was so unaware of basic business practices. When I questioned why I should have to pay more because of an error on their website, the conversation turned into a heated argument. I explained that customers shouldn't be penalized for a business's failure to update its advertised pricing. I asked to speak to the owner and instead a male employee came out to yell at me when I attempted to explain how this could be misconstrued as a Bait & Switch tactic. They eventually agreed to honor the coupon, but then told me to "never come back." After years of being a loyal customer and referring friends and family, I found the entire experience horrific and unprofessional. Businesses make mistakes, but how they handle those mistakes--and how they treat loyal customers--matters. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I can no longer recommend A & R Auto, BUYER BEWARE
