Brought my 2016 civic in for ac flush/fill/inspection, after a dealership stated I had contaminants in my system, and declined my warranty. A1 Auto Electric Auto Repair Shop located in the downtown Fresno county area. I was referred by the Firestone in my local area. Due to my vehicle having programming issues for a while now. In advance I made an appointment for a diagnostic check. Daryl the service manager was the main person that assisted me throughout the entire process. They do offer a discount to military service personnel. The cost of a diagnostic check was at a reasonable price. Diagnostic check done. I made another appointment to fix the vehicle the programming issues. Initially I was informed my vehicle would be there for two days. The vehicle was there more than the days stated prior. Daryl Hosepian communicated with me throughout the entire process from start to finish. Finally, the vehicle service was installed, tested and job completed. Tip for you have patience when getting your vehicle serviced. Their parking space for customers could use improvements and renovations. May require more visible signs for the parking and the auto shop main entrance door. I drove twice couldn't locate the main door on the block. Service Manager Daryl is the worst ever... in any shop I have ever gone to. The level of incompetence is pathetic. I don't know if the owners even know if this service manager is scaring away customers and losing money instead of properly earning money.... all this time... and not doing his job in being helpful... but rather being irritating and offensive. I used to recommend this shop back in the day when they used to be competent.... obviously when competent personnel I used to work with leave... competence I expect leaves with them. *** Told Daryl all the things about my vehicle... to help technician working on the car with proper diagnosis... yet Daryl wrote nothing on the work order.... might as well talk to a wall... at least the sound bounces back. Seems Technician randomly started tugging on electric wiring... (since not given any info on work order)... and inadvertently disconnected my wiring. Daryl said I needed a new starter... I told him this is the 3rd starter... and it cannot be the starter. He still wants me to replace with a 4th starter... before he can do any diagnosis... I told him I can start the car for him to have other testing done... because it's not the starter... he refused, so I told him no. I won't need to go into any more details that lead to my proper decision... that he has alterior motives other than geniuinely fixing the car. I am glad i picked up my car instead of subjecting it to more all-around incompetence. *** It turned out they disconnected my starter wiring... disabled my car... made it worst... I plugged wire right back in and worked exactly as before they ruined it. They wasted my day... I drove my car there... but had to use resources to tow it out of there... I cut my losses instead of losing more... what good riddence!!!! *** Based on how I saw Daryl treat another nice customer in the past... it's plain and clear I never want to do business with him... nor see him again in life. *** I won't be surprised if strategically worded responses are created.... it is very certain there is no agreement to anything on my end. read more

Took my 99 Camry in due to engine light on and car stalling. Did what I could on my end and was thankfully referred to A-1. I spoke with manager Darryl about all the areas I tested or parts I replaced newly and that the engine light was still on. If there was a way to give negative stars, I would. Apparently all mechanical work had been done on my vehicle from this place, and due to their poor workmanship, my exhaust pipe came apart while I was driving down the freeway. The welds on the exhaust pipe that were done by this shop came apart and left me stranded on the side of the road. When I took my car in for repair, they said they absolutely would not responsible for their poor workmanship. I needed my car, so I had no choice but to pay the exorbitant fee of $140.00 just to get it fixed so I could drive home. 2 months later, my exhaust pipe comes apart again, in a different spot this time, also welded by A-1 Auto... because of A-1 Auto's poor workmanship I chose to take my car to another place, and Cal-State Muffler did a much better job and only charged me $50 to weld the exhaust pipe. I will never ever recommend this place - they do not treat women well at all. Darryl actually laughed at me and said they absolutely would not be responsible for their own poor workmanship even when presented with all paperwork showing their repairs. If you are a woman looking for an honest mechanic, this place is definitely not for you. I have never been treated as badly as I was here. read more

Excellent experience! My wife had an alert light on her dash which we had no idea what it meant. We were referred by a friend to try A-1. I, irrationally, made the service manager aware of my lack of car knowledge and let him know I was referred by a friend. I explained the alert and he immediately suggested my tire pressure could be low. He suggested I try that first before he looks to diagnose the problem to avoid any unnecessary charges. I went to a near by gas station and made sure my tires were all properly inflated. I then brought my 2016 Lexus back to A-1 and let the service manager know that I had no luck in fixing the problem. After about 35-40 mins they had diagnosed and fixed the issue which was quite simple. I just needed an oil change. For people who are knowledgeable with cars, this may seem like a very common and easy fix. However, I am not. It helps to have a genuine company that did not take advantage of my lack of knowledge. Don't come here. 'Always putting the customer first.' These meaningless words are on their website. I went in one Friday without an appointment at about 3pm. I knew that my chances for an oil change, tire rotation and a few other minor adjustments were not good but I went anyway. I figured, maybe they'll get something done. I was wrong. They told me they were backed up, so we made an appointment for the following Friday at 1:30 pm. Now, I work long hours and have no other form of transportation, so I'm not able to leave my car for very long. I sacrificed work and pay so that I could be there the following Friday at the agreed upon time. When I got there, the people behind the glass were rude and dismissive. They acted as if I wasn't in the room as they kept chatting on the phone and with each other. Finally, one meathead looking fool, Sanchez or something, acknowledges me and asks if I have an appointment. We go through the motions and I have a seat in the waiting room. An hour later, an imbecile mechanic comes to me asking how to open the trunk so he can get the parts I brought. This means my car had been sitting for an hour without any work being done. Two hours later (4:30 ish), the meathead comes to let me know that they won't be able to finish the job. I look at him with amazement because I am stunned they couldn't finish an oil change, tire rotation and simple adjustments on a common Toyota in that time. There was still an hour on the clock but they were kicking me to the curb! At that point, it was obvious I was dealing with cretins, so I paid the emotionless cashier and got out of there. All they were able to accomplish in three hours was an oil change. Ridiculous. Pathetic. Fresno, in general, is a very hard place to find dependable, responsible and reasonable shops, but A-1 takes incompetence to new levels. I wish I could leave you with the information of a better shop, but I'm afraid Fresno just doesn't have much better, as I spent nine years there and the best I found was D&R back when Tony ran the shop, which was about three or four years ago. read more

I would not trust the integrity and knowledge of the people who work at this shop. I manage a shop in another city and with no time to help my girlfriend.. I figured I could ask a fellow shop to help me out. I called and explained the problem she was having, who ever the service advisor was that answered left me with the impression that he knew exactly what I was talking about. After the car was towed over, the initial charge was 118 ( understandable). I get a call not long after telling me how they need more time and $500 more to figure out the problem. First they said the battery was put on backwards (because toyotas have reverse post batteries..(its a Duralast autozone battery... gibberish thinking that would confuse me? ) and shorted something, then they said someone put wrong fuses in. Mind you, this car was recently purchased from the dealership and has had no prior issues or work done. I had them pull the car out as soon as I heard their explanation. I took time off work, drove down to fresno repaired the vehicle in less time than it would took them to "diagnose" the problem. Let me start with stating that I live 3+ hours away from Fresno and I still make the trip to go there to replace my CNG tanks, even though there are other shops that are lot closer to me. Their work is excellent and top-notch, but what impressed me the most is their zeal for customer satisfaction. When I was gathering quotes for my CNG tank replacements, I called them and talked to Janice. She was very knowledgeable, patient and eager to help. Later when I decided to make an appointment I sent her an email and even though she was on vacation, she put me in touch with other folks who helped me with the process. Their price is very reasonable and they got the job done before the scheduled time. My man just brought his Chevy Tahoe in for some work on a recommendation from D & R. He's been looking for someone in Fresno as he's working out there for awhile. Don't go here. I have a friend who is related to one of the people that works here and took their car thinking they could trust the repair recommendations. He was told he needed a new transmission! I believe it was going to cost him almost $1K-$2K! His car was old and not worth that repair but he thought to go to one more place for a second opinion and the second mechanic told him he just needed transmission fluid!! $100 repair for what his family member said would cost thousands?? That was a super easy fix! Why didn't they recommend that? I don't think they take the time to figure out what the real issue is. I took my car in to A-1 for engine light, I gave them my 500.00 voucher I received from tune in and tune up program. first of all it took over 1 month for my appt. then finally I I took my car in. they kept it for a week, then they finally call me and told me that my car need front and rear catalytic converter and will cost a total $3,561.74, , I thought what the hell!! I said oh no! I'm picking up my car right now, I don't want it repaired I cannot afford it. I told them to give me back my voucher so I can take it somewhere else, they said no, we can't give it back to you because we did a diagnostic on your car which totaled $125.00, I said I will pay for the diagnostic just give me back the voucher they didn't want to... I found a place in Fresno called West Coast Exhaust 4127 W. Shaw,. they only charged me 900.00 and said the rear catalytic converter was fine nothing wrong with it, why did A-1 tell you that you need to repair that. Well my point it, A-1 was charging me almost 4 times as much as West Coast Exhaust, I will never go or recommend anyone to go to A-1 Auto Electric.. read more

My 61 year old mother took her 98astro van here in April to have fuses fixed because they keepted popping and the van would die. They said they fixed it but in September it stated doing it again then died completely and won't start. She made appt. to take it in on Friday and they said it would be done by need of day. We get a call that the battery is dead and needs a new one. They charge $200. For a new one And install. I got one at Walmart to save money $68. They charge me $68. To install it . Ok now can u do diagnostics test to fix the fuse. She was called a while later saying could not check for fuses because there was a leak in the water pump and was told it was going to cost $400 for water pump and install. But they could not fix it until Monday so she left van there. Be got a water pump at autozone for$ 79. And charged $200. To install it. Then she gets a call still can do a diagnostics test because they found a exposed wire or crack in the fuel tank and they had to take that down but that was for free. Still no call back end of day Monday called on Tuesday morning told the car was still took it apart and cannot find what was wrong with it and less they were able to install their own circuit board for the fuse and then they can test it. We had to have the car towedBecause we ran out of money but all she went in there was for the fuse they fixed in the first place and Chris told her it worked for 5 months and that's good. But don't know why it's broke again. His Mechanics don't know what they're doing I believe neither does Chris as he was saying things that we have never seen inside the van exposed wires or leaks that was not there prior to taking it in on Friday. After reading other reviews it seems they do that all the time take it in to have it fixed for one thing and they charge you for several things and don't fix the right problem.theses are people are scam taking a Advantage of a 61 yr old woman.
