My 2014 Nissan Versa has been acting funny and I was told to get a transmission fluid flush. Spoke with Trevor over the phone. Service was awesome! Dennis came highly recommended by a friend but I still wasn't sure because I'm a female and I just didn't know how things were going to be. They were very warm and welcoming and made me feel safe. I went in for AC repair on my 2017 Honda Civic. Dennis ran tests and told me that the AC compressor and evaporator were leaking. Dennis even called Clawson Honda and found out Honda had an extended warranty on the part that was broken in the AC system. When I picked up my car I paid for the diagnostic fee and went straight to Clawson Honda to talk to the service tech that Dennis had called earlier. They already knew what was going on since Dennis called them so I didn't have to explain anything. A first experience here. Coming from a chain(and a horrible one at that) I was looking for a locally owned shop. Their customer service is excellent, fast response and fast resolve. You speak to the technicians directly so you know exactly what is going on with your car when inquiring. They're a bit busy, a fair warning. We took the car to the shop and it wasn't able to be looked at until later the following day(not a terrible wait but most other places can start on a diagnosis within a couple hours). Speaking of, it was 169 for a diagnostic which is a stand alone charge-meaning it doesn't apply to the total charge when you have the repairs done there. Other places tend to have a 60-90ish diagnostic charge that then applies to the repair job should you chose to do it there. So I think there are a lot of Yelpers who weren't happy about that and have mentioned it in the comments. HOWEVER, I would say the overall experience is worth the extra money. Things were done when they said it would be done. We got calls when they said they would call. The job was done within a couple days and Trevor was an excellent communicator. Should we have any problems again I won't hesitate to give them a call! read more

I had an exhaust leak in my 2015 Subaru Forester XT for several months, and I knew I needed to get it taken care of. I finally took it to a mechanic close to my office and the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. They had my car most of the day and never called me with an update. I had to call them mid afternoon to ask for an update and found out they were planning to keep the car over night without calling me because they couldn't "hear" the exhaust leak. That wasn't going to work for me because I commute an hour to work. When they finally diagnosed it, it was just a gasket replacement, and the cost was outrageous. Needless to say, I didn't have repairs done there, and it took me a few more months to get the nerve to take it somewhere else. I was referred to Dennis Auto Repair by a good friend. I am very thankful for the referral. Everyone was so wonderful to work with. Trevor called within an hour of me dropping the car off to let me know the findings. He was kind and compassionate when he delivered the news that it was much more than a gasket replacement; there was a crack in the manifold and it needed to be replaced. The cost of repairs was not what I was expecting. He was honest and let me know that I could continue to drive the car, but I told him I was already smelling the exhaust and knew it was a hazard. I approved the repairs, and since they already had my car, I asked Trevor if they could take care of a few other maintenance items that I knew needed to be done, like a transmission flush and front and rear differential fluid replacement. Never once was there an attempt to sell me additional services. There was never additional parts that suddenly needed to be repaired. Trevor and Dennis showed me the manifold and the cracks when I picked up my car and were great about answering my questions. They are a very honest group of people to work with, and I highly recommend their services. As a woman, having an honest mechanic you can trust is so important to me. I was searching for a honest repair shop for cars. It's so hard to find. I went to Dennis because of his rating. I left my car at 7:30 am got a message at 2:30 to call shop. I was told they didn't hear no noise that I told them about, but it they seen some other things that I was aware of. I wanted to no about the noise. I mentioned. I got a code from my machine and told them about it They didn't want to no about a code. They said to leave my car over night! I said I work nights I couldn't do that. So he said I had to pay 195.00 even though they didn't find the problem. When I posted on google dennise said he found a code but didn't mention it because he didn't think it was to do with the noise I heard Yet other things were brought up to fix that didn't have to do with that noise. I'm sorry my car now making a sound at the bottom that it never did before. People know their car. I was told to wait a half hour before picking up my car he had to put things back together. I got there in 10 min my car was parked in the corner. There was nothing being put together . My car got the tires took off to tell me I need brakes . I knew that . I was told the bottom plastic cover needed to be replaced I knew that already. $1.350 for breaks $750 for plastic cover with 4 bolts but I was there for the noise my car made under the hood. Yet never told about a code dennise mentioned on google that he found. Now there is rattling in bottom. I am so tired of car repairs robbing women or elderly people. They got a license to cheat. I took my car to pay 195.00 for nothing. You didn't find the problem. I was took advantage of by these people. What is wrong with you mechanics now a day. I had the unfortunate situation of encountering some car troubles without having a set mechanic in town. I ended up searching for a well-reviewed auto repair shop and found Dennis' Auto Repair. After explaining my issue to Colleen on the phone, I was able to bring my car in later that day to diagnose and fix the issue under the hood. Everyone was very kind to me, there is a small team of mechanics that work here as well. The location is close to where I live and work (Downtown and South-Central Fresno), and made it easy to get transportation to/from the shop while my car was getting repaired. The shop's communication was great - Trevor, the mechanic working on my vehicle, called as soon as the issue was identified (my starter needed replacing), along with an estimate for labor and parts. Colleen called again when they had a set time for when the car would be ready to be picked up. The service was excellent, prices fair, and repair was a quick-turnaround. Colleen also took time to explain the 2 year/24K mile warranty, along with the number to call if I was out-of-town and encountered issues that could be under warranty. I was also really impressed by the fact they vacuumed and hand-washed my car, at no extra cost! For someone who often puts stuff like that on the back-burner when life gets busy, it was a nice touch and left me feeling like they took very good care of my vehicle. One star for wasting only my time, and not wasting my money, or behaving like total trash. I filled out a request for an estimate, waited a couple of hours, and received no response. I then called the business to see if I could simply bring my car in for a repair estimate, as all other repair shops I'd visited had accepted this approach to doing business, and seemed to be flourishing. (hint.. hint.. hint..) I then spoke with a woman who claimed I hadn't filled out the form (which, yes, I had of course filled out). Not reacting to the poor business communication, or, in other words, debating reality, I simply filled out the online estimate request form on their website again, which she promised to read and respond to. Still, of course, hours of waiting produced no response. I'm not into getting pulled over for a headlight issue I don't have the time to fix on my own during my lunch hour, so I then used my lunch hour to drive to the business to see if I could simply leave the car there (simply asking them to touch a meter to my bulb socket and see if I needed a new ballast) and get word on an estimate, should I need a new ballast, or an estimate on the problem, should the ballast be good. Since checking the headlight bulb and diagnosing the issue is a five minute process (I've done it, but simply didn't have time to buy the tools AND do it on my short lunch break), I was sure that this would be acceptable for a business with three workers chatting idly in the wings of a silent workshop.... AS LONG AS those workers can receive the request from the gatekeeper... the woman at the front desk... yes, as long as there is normal communication. The woman at the desk (the same woman I spoke with on the phone) now found my online estimate request, and simply refused to read it, asking me to again explain what the details of my estimate request were. I then explained at length, again, what she refused to read. She then responded that I could schedule a five minute estimate to take place in... yes, three weeks. The business certainly did not seem nearly busy enough to warrant such a delay even for a lengthy process. Conclusion: please hire people who communicate normally. read more

This will be a lengthy review but I will explain my rating at the end if you'd like to avoid the meat of the review. I was referred to Dennis' Auto Repair. I brought in an 03' Grand Marquis for an inspection because the vehicle ate through a set of brand new tires in six months after an alignment. My research and visual inspection led me to believe my front lower ball joints may have needed to be replaced. I let Colleen and Trevor (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) know that information and let them know that I'd like an inspection of the vehicle to see what may be causing the uneven wear. NOTE: I'd brought another vehicle here previously and expected an equally detailed inspection. After having the vehicle overnight, Trevor confirmed that my lower ball joints needed replacement but unfortunately, that meant the lower control arms also needed to be replaced because the lower ball joints couldn't be done separately. I asked for a printed quote and let them know I'd pick up the vehicle after finding out the quoted total. My quote total: $1415.22. Parts: $983.96 Labor: $274.89 Sublet (the alignment that would need to be done elsewhere): $74.95 Hazardous Materials (???): $2.95 Tax: $78.47 If you're still with me I'd like to point out that the labor cost is actually very fair. Unfortunately, Colleen told me I wouldn't be able to supply my own parts. The parts that Dennis' uses are from Napa. If I were to walk into a Napa auto parts store and purchase the exact part numbers listed on my invoice, the total would be $602.48 as each costs $278.99 plus tax. Here is where you're losing two stars Dennis' Auto Repair. I am deducting two stars for charging a 75% markup on parts. I understand that for liability sake, you probably don't want me to procure my own parts. That's fine. 75% markup though? That explains why your labor is so fairly priced. You lose your third star because there wasn't a complete inspection done on the vehicle like I asked for. You still charged me the same inspection fee that you did on a previous vehicle as well but failed to generate a report and email me any of the information. You lose your fourth star because the scope of work you outlined is wrong and you tried to mislead me. I had an independent mechanic I know inspect the lower control arms. He inspected the complete front end and made me aware of some worn bushings and play in the tie-rods. He recommended I go to a reputable alignment shop for a clearer picture of what needed to be done. That appointment was today: 03/28/17 Results from an alignment shop with no prior knowledge of the assessment from the independent mechanic: Lower ball joints need to be replaced. The lower ball joints can be replaced independent of the control arms. The outer tie rods can and probably should be replaced due to play but the control arms are fine. tl;dr I am rating Dennis' Auto Repair 1 star for the following reasons: 1) 75% markup on non-oem NAPA parts. 2) Failure to perform the inspection requested 3) Failure to correctly diagnose the issue that two completely different mechanics diagnosed independent of each other 4) Outright lying to customers who they likely assume don't know any better. To future customers: Go elsewhere. There are plenty of reputable places within a few blocks of these guys. I can't believe I was referred here because it is a complete rip-off. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

For Dennis' Auto repair I would give them 3 stars and that is only because the office lady Colleen was very nice and friendly. However, this place is way overpriced! I went for just a basic oil change and it was $90.... for an oil change?!!!? That is absurd I don't even drive a fancy European car I have a basic little chevy... other than the outrageous price everything else was ok. UPDATE: after reading the comment from the owner trying to justify my $90 oil change on my Chevy Captiva, I called the dealership. Just drove in to Fresno from Boulder. Had my Jeep Wrangler thoroughly checked before I left by a very reliable and transparent local family owned shop, Pellmans. They found that my oil cooler and o-rings need to be replaced, a common failing for my Jeep's motor. I called Dennis' for an estimate to replace the oil cooler, etc... I was told that Dennis' would need to perform their own diagnosis and that the cost of the diagnosis would be applied to any work. Great! "So what would you charge to replace the oil cooler and replace o rings?" They refused to provide quote! Sorry that's not how shit works. Lack of transparency, won't get my business! Oh, I did call a local Jeep dealer in Fresno and they happily provided quote which was almost spot on with the Pellmans. read more

Imagine my dismay after driving three hours from the Bay Area, and my clutch blows its mind in Fresno. IN FRESNO! With temperatures over 100 in the lovely metropolis, I was NOT a happy camper. I truly thought I had landed in Hell. Luckily, I was here for a birthday party and had a hotel room for two nights. A friend of a friend recommended Dennis. I thought, "Yeah, right, probably some jive Fresno shyster." But I was STUCK so I had my car towed to the shop. As we entered the rather rundown neighborhood where Dennis is located, my doubts and suspicions increased. And THEN-- I walked in and met Colleen. First impressions mean a lot and she was friendly, helpful, and very sweet. I then met the man himself, Dennis. He said he would check things out and let me know what the damage would be. He most gallantly offered me a ride back to my hotel, halfway across town. Wow! We had a very nice chat on the way back--he's a totally upstanding Fresno citizen. Colleen even asked if I needed help with lodging or meals--she's a sweet one, that gal. It turned out that the situation was horribly complicated--parts were needed and much labor would be needed. I had to catch a ride back to the Bay, and took Amtrak back down a few days later. Dennis met me at the station, gracious as ever. My 1995 Saturn was good as new and lookin' a lot better after Dennis and his crew detailed it! My car has huge black bumpers that I had been trying to spruce up for years with little success. They made those babies shine like new! Now, I won't lie, my bill was rather gulp worthy. But seeing as how I bought this car new way back when, I figured it was worth the investment. It runs better than it has in some time--and it's been four months since Dennis and crew laid their healing hands upon my faithful wheels. [BTW, the friend of a friend is a United Airlines pilot. Dennis pointed out several T-Birds that the pilot had left for servicing. I went to Dennis Auto Repair based on the reviews, and was surprised when the diagnostic for my car was returned. Dennis informed me that it needed a transmission replacement. When I called Nissan, they informed that the service bulletin that was used by the shop was outdated and that there were additional steps in the new service bulletin. I picked up the car, and took it to the dealership. Indeed, the car did not need a transmission replacement. I went back to the shop and Dennis was furious because I came to show him the paperwork and the service bulletin. I got him to refund my money, but I recommend customers to do their research and ensure that your vehicles are properly serviced. read more

My 18 year old son decided he and his buddies could do an engine swap on his 1990 Miata, thanks to YouTube. Well, my son was sold the wrong Japanese Domestic Motor (JDM) engine and ran into all kinds of problems. The engine wasn't communicating with the computer so there was no way to electronically pinpoint the problems. I finally towed the car to Dennis' Auto Repair and he hesitantly agreed to take a look at the Miata as a project car as he would have to diagnose it the old fashioned way. To make a long story short, Dennis followed through with his promise and got the Miata running again and at a reasonable price.
