We also liked that we didn't have to park and carry a box of potentially valuable jewelry downtown--the trip to Lake Oswego was worth it for that reason alone. He was terrific! We met him as a group and used his "triage" service, and he swiftly went through a multi-generational jewelry collection and tested and separated pieces that had significant potential value or simply contained gold that could be melted down. As he was going through everything we brought, he educated us about gemstones, how the jewelry and auction industry works, how to maximize value when selling and his connections/resources for selling items and more--he was a wealth of information. It was obvious that he was a total professional who's been doing this for a long time. Plus, he was a really nice guy! He also took care of getting the gold pieces we didn't plan to auction or sell melted down and gave us a very favorable commission rate compared to what we would've gotten from a jewelry store or other company that liquidates gold. With the…read morerecent price fluctuation, they still undercut you, maybe as much as other coin shops but if they don't want to buy from you they just say its not .999 pure, or "its fake/ie other metals blended in" excuse. Interesting enough I brought to them some silver bars from Apmex still in its unopened packaging and they said its fake. I took those very same bars to a different coin shop and they said it was pure .999. Some coin dealers just wont have liquidity or cash to pay you, so perhaps thats what happened here. Anyways expect fluctuating fees.I also sent a friend of mine in and he got a different quote. Shop around as always.
