My husband and I just left A-1 Locksmith on Walnut & Harry Hines and were so happy with James and his quick fix to our ignition that this review could NOT wait until I got home. After spending all morning at the STEALERSHIP getting a key made that still didn't work on our 2010 my husband was so discouraged. I told my husband there has to be a place we can go that specializes in cylinders and ignitions. My husband said let's stop by the locksmith on Harry Hines, Well I stayed in the car while my husband went inside and within moments my husband came out excited that I knew he had hit the jackpot. I went inside with him and found that James had found the problem, it was a bent wafer. Whatever that is, but who cares because James was on the case AND he fixed it within minutes. All I could say was THANK YOU JESUS!!!!! I told James I would come around that counter and give him a kiss if I could. You have no idea how much we went through with this key, the car and the cylinder!!!! The STEALERSHIP said no one had a new ignition do we would have to order one and they said it'll the ignition was unable to be repaired. I called on Wednesday to get an estimate to rekey a lock. I was told $15 for the service trip and $$19.99 for the rekeying. He asked when I wanted an appointment. I said I would call on Friday to make appointment for Saturday. I called on Saturday to make appointment and confirm price. Again I was told $15+ $19.99. The tech , Santiago showed up. He did the work and told me the charges were $120.00. When I complained he said $60 was the least he could do. He tried to say I didn't talk to their company for the price, but I did, they already had my phone number and address in the system and I have never used them! If I had not spoken to them I would not have had the appointment. read more

First of all, why is it so hard to find a locksmith with a brick and mortar location. Everyone I called was a mobile shop that wanted a minimum of $50 just to come out. All I needed was a car key copied. It is one of those fancy laser keys so I couldn't just go to Home Depot with it. I was quoted $5 over the phone, but it turned out to be $40 for my kind of key. The guy apologized about the confusion and was very friendly. The whole thing took about 5 minutes and he even helped me move my immobilizer chip from the old key to the new key. I used my own blank, so they didn't guarantee that it would work, but it ended up working perfectly. He even went out to me car with me to try it. The whole thing cost less than the cost of just having someone come out. read more

Horrible experience.. I locked my keys In my car and thought ahh I'll call a locksmith (like I have in the pass). Service fee $15 ehh ok and the "technician" will discuss with me the actual price of labor. I said ok sure shouldn't be much. Couple air bags and a hook to unlock door. Shouldn't be much right? Tech comes out, sees my keys sitting there and tells me it'll be $149 dollars to unlock my car. I thought he was crazy!! Once he noticed my reaction he asked me.. " well how much do you have?" I thought to myself.. seriously guy? You tell me what's the best price you can do this for and he went down to $120. Once I refused to pay that he started talking about side deals how he could even do it for free if he wanted but he won't because well I NEED HIS TOOLS! Once I told him I'd call his boss and see what's the best price he jumped and said "no don't". $120 is best I can do thru company blah blah blah bullshit! I paid it unhappily just to get my keys and him out of my face. He was smirky and making small talk that I really didn't want to hear. Got his air bags and did exactly what I knew he was going to do and left. Not happy with the price or customer service. Do not call this company 9729460050 or dispatch 9728936017. Like the others who have reviewed, we were suckered in by the 24 dollar/15 minute promise. Turns out it is $48 to have a guy come out on "weekends" Hmmm.. Not mentioned that weekends are an issue. Situation: Girlfriend locks herself out, we call, guy shows up. He says it will be $400 to unlock it. $ 400 ??? Really?? My girlfriend tells him to get lost..then he says if you give me 200 cash, he will get her in...Ummm... no. When I called to complain the dipshit on the phone says that it's a weekend..and I should expect that price and when I get upset, she hangs up on me. I was going to call in on monday to a manager but by the looks of the other reviews, they don't seem to care much about their reputation. These people are sleazebags...stay the hell away. epilogue: called another locksmith..$125 total. Ripoff!! I called this company asking for a quote and was given a $15 service fee and then it depends on the work needed...starting at $35. The tech who came to my door argued with me about how the door couldn't possibly be locked from the otherside (I had my key). Dumbass didn't even try to open the door before arguing!!! He then gave me a quote of $190 without trying anything. It was 2am and had to get in. It took him 3 minutes to pop the door with 2 air bags and a flat head screwdriver!! No tell me how that is not a $35-$50 minimal charge!? Not at $190! Then I asked for the techs name and he wouldn't give it to me unless I gave him my credit card number, after the payment had already been placed! Sketchy and did not make sense. What a great experience, even under the circumstances. The key to my home safe had mysteriously disappeared. I recall exactly where I put it, but it wasn't to be found anywhere. After literally going through every cabinet, and drawer, sadly realized I had to call a locksmith. All the important stuff is in that steel box which brought fear racing through my veins. Yikes, gotta get it open NOW. Contacted A-1 around 0930 and reached a very friendly and knowledgeable staffer, who asked all the right questions; safe brand/model number, etc. She quickly advised that this would be a fairly easy fix. Scheduled an appointment between 1030 and 1100 and quoted a price of $95-125, depending on the complexity of the problem. Around 1100, received a call that the tech was delayed by another job and would be here around 1230. No problem, at least they called. John arrived @ 1215 and drum roll........ safe opened and new key made in under 20 minutes. $110, well within the range of the original quote. The tech was friendly, professional and obviously knew his craft well. While I would have preferred to spend those $$ on something cold and tasty, it's one of those unavoidable situations created when one doesn't do a good job of keeping up with the important things around the house. My Honda Pilot key case was cracked so I ordered a new key online and was told that I could take it to any locksmith to have it cut. Turns out that you need a special machine that most locksmiths don't have. To their credit, A-1 does have this machine. So, I have a key with a fully programmed transponder and remote that just needs to be cut. I call A-1 and they tell me it will be $125. Just to cut the key at their store. No travel time. No programming. $125. I called John Eagle Honda to see what they would charge, fully expecting to be gouged. Instead, "Doug" told me to bring the key down and offered to cut it for free! If you do your homework you can probably find a better choice than A-1. read more

Said they were coming over during a certain time and when called as to why they didn't show, they denied it, made up a story, and created another window to show up later the same day. Wish I could give them 0 stars. I called this place and the person that they sent me told me the total would be $88 to open my car. I thought it was expensive but I really needed to open my car. Gave them my card info and he didn't have a physical receipt for me to sign. When I checked my bank account and saw the receipt, they've charged me $188. Just had a copy made of my Chevy Tahoe key. They were quick and courteous at the Walnut Hill location.

I had a bad experience with them in April 2011. Admittedly, I called with a unique situation--my file cabinet has no key-lock, but one of the ill-fitting drawers was "locking" the others shut. I explained this to the receptionist. She asked someone in the office, then came back and said yes, they could look at it, and it would cost between $37 and $89, depending on what they did. We made an appointment. When the locksmith showed up, he poked his finger in the hole where the key-lock had been and said, "There's not lock here." (That's why he's the professional). He did not realize that file cabinets lock when a drawer opens, for safety measures. He called the office, then said, "Yeah. They say you'll have to buy a new file cabinet. And they want me to collect the $67 service-call fee." I paid him $40 and feel stupid for even doing that. BEWARE. read more

Recently locked myself out of the house in the morning, goofed up and locked the door behind me while everyone else was at work. Called these guys because they installed our new locks around 2010 when we moved in and I saved their number in my phone. They were nice over the phone and still had us in their system. They said it'd be about an hour for the tech to arrive, but soon after he called and gave me a heads-up he'd be there in 30 minutes. The tech was courteous, in a company van and shirt, and verified my ID before opening the door. He popped it open in a few minutes, and it came to about $90. Nice tech, did all the right things I thought he should, and reasonable price and timeline. Will keep them in my phone for future use, and happy to recommend them to friends if they need someone. read more

I've used these guys to rekey offices at work several times. Andrew and David Eubanks are nice guys. David is very knowledgeable when it comes to door access systems. He's been in the biz for a long time. I've gone to the actual store location a couple times to have copies made and they were always nice and it only took a few minutes. read more

Because it takes fifteen or twenty minutes to get anywhere in Arlington only if you leave immediately. An HOUR LATER I call to find out what the heck is going on. They tell me, now, I am "next in line". Well, that doesn't sound like fifteen or twenty minutes to me. "No thanks", I said. By the way, they did have a contact number for me and could have called anytime to tell me there was a delay. So then, I assume, either they have extremely poor management skills... Or they lied. First, we call and are told that this is a great time because the guy is doing nothing at the moment. We waited almost 30 minutes! For a company that stresses 15 minutes or less that was the first let down. Second, we asked for a quote and are told $24 plus "labor". Asking for them to clarify they respond that it is dependent on how hard the lock job is, okay I get that. The guy shows up and proceeds to tell us it is going to be $294! He proceeds to tell me that this is their "weekend rate". Now I'm pissed. Not only could the operator I spoke with on the phone mentioned that earlier but the only reason it was the weekend was because the freaking driver took 30 minutes to respond. I called and got the quote "$19 service call and starting at $25 labor" I asked them to about how much over $25 and get told they will tell my son. I tell my son not to let the bill go over $65. So my son calls and tells me the locksmith had already come and gone, but the bill was $109! I asked if the man had said the man did not mention one prior to unlocking his car. Of course they have my credit card information and no courtesy of calling and telling me the price beforehand either that was grossly different than the quote. read more

DO NOT do business with these condescending, disrespectful, jerks. My client is a 65 year old recent widow in a very bad area of town. We've had two experiences with this company going from bad to down right offensive. The first time, There was a predator / squatter in her home and she could not get him out. we called to get the locks changed on the "15 minute promise" 4 hours and 5 calls later someone finally showed up. it was extremely expensive, but we were glad to have her safe. This evening, we found an item we needed a locksmith to open, at the scheduled appointment time, my client mistakenly stepped out of the apartment and missed the locksmith's call. My client called the locksmith back and there was no Voice mail set up on the phone. she then called Dispatch who advised her that the tech was now about 5 miles away and would head back. 20 minutes later, she called again, and the same story. about 30 minutes after that, I called and asked when we could expect the locksmith, The female dispatcher identified herself as the only lady / dispatcher, and declared she had never spoken with my client in the last hour. she then stated she would call the technician at home, and reported the the locksmith had SPOKEN with my client and couldn't get in because there was a gate and he didn't have the code. My client DIDN'T HAVE HER PHONE. The locksmith lied, I advised the dispatcher of that and she got very rude, and raised her voice. she then said that my client lied about speaking to her twice. My grieving, 65 year old client who has nothing but 3 dogs in this life. I told her that I was going to review this experience, and true to my word, I am. she yelled at me about threatening her and hung up on me. Great safe, great price, great service! I was in search of a Liberty gun safe and A-1 came up as a local dealer. I prefer buying local and shipping costs are way high on a 600 lb safe! The manager of the Frisco store (Robert) was very helpful in educating me on the safes that Liberty makes and even suggested the perfect model for my needs. Although one was not in stock I was able to reserve one from the next shipment. I requested for it to be delivered and installed by their people. It was a tight fit but it worked out fine. There was a breakdown in communication between my wife and the delivery team and the safe didn't get bolted down. I called Jessica and she was very great with dealing with the situation. She sent someone the very next day during a two hour window of my choice. Jessica offered to send out a locksmith the same day I called but I had to work all day.
