Came in for a smog check on my '04 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V and left satisfied. Had to wait a few minutes for him to get to me since he was testing a car at the moment. Meanwhile I filled out the required paperwork. Within a few minutes he was ready to test my car. The test itself took less than 10 minutes and didn't feel long at all. Car passed no issues. He explained to me that the SMOG cert would be electronically transmitted to the DMV and that if I needed additional printouts should I lose mine, that I could come back and have another copy printed whenever I needed. Very quality service in a timely manner. The price of the test with certificate was $43 out the door since I paid cash. I would recommend this location to anyone who needs a SMOG test done quick. read more

Came here with my senior mothers suv after it failed testing at another place. The first place we went to explained that because she just replaced her battery and starter, she needs to drive the car more for it to register and pass smog correctly. They couldn't tell us how much so she was worried and drove it about 900mi - more than she drives in a year! When it came to try to pass smog again, we came here and they were very helpful and explained we only needed to drive it about 50miles. Needless to say she passed smog and we learned something new while here - theses folks actually want to help versus other places that think answers like "I don't know" are acceptable. read more

I'll be bringing my car and other cars here for future checks. It only cost me $40 for the service and certification. A little more for older cars. Pretty sweet deal, I think...it's been a long time since I actually had to do a smog check. The guy who performed the service and the paper work was fast and cool too. The inspector failed my car for one time visual inspection for one small bent in the hose with out using any mirror to inspect all around the angle of the hose, just using his eyes inspection, he did not even bother to test it in the machine but he charged in full for failed visual inspection and wants me to come back for the second test for another charges. My v6 2003 Altima is current on tune up, oil change & maintenance due to a friend mechanic had been conditioning my car, my car is not in a bad condition, from the engine, inside and out. I took it the same day to another smog test, he inspected the hose with his mirror around in all angle, no puncture, tear, crack, hole for a vapor to escape except it has a small bent. The inspector used all the State required procedures said my car by the State is qualified to pass the smog test. A-1 inspector in 1810 Verne Roberts Circle Antioch CA did not even use the State required mirro to inspect around the angle of the hose and he failed the smog test for a small bend in the hose and asking me to come back for the second test for another charges. read more

Smog tests on my truck have always been a challenge. This time was no exception. I went in and the technician who performed the test was such a jerk. He noticed something had been pulled off and instead of putting it back on he told me that was why he couldn't smog it. I asked him what it was supposed to look like (was it just put in or clamped) and he was so evasive. I went to an auto store and they helped me with it. I went back and the machine was down. I went back again and was harassed about the $10 fee, which had been crossed off by the first guy, but the owner was there and he made such a big deal about not charging me I get he was trying to intimidate me. I was in no mood to back down or be intimidated. I was glad it passed so I wouldn't have to go back there ever again. read more

I've been going to A-1 to have my cars smogged for several years. I've been happy with their work and service. The reason I deducted a star is I went early Monday morning so I could be one of the first in line because there's usually a wait. I arrived at 8:15 because the hours posted are 8:30 -5:00. At 9:00am there was still no one there to open up the shop. . I decided to go to Costco to get gas, then came back and the owner was just getting there at 9:15. When I complained about the wait, instead of apologizing he said, "who are you, my boss?" I thought that was pretty rude for a business owner to say to a repeat customer like myself, considering there are quite a few other smog service centers I go to. Not a great way to promote business. I went ahead and had him do the smog because I didn't want to go somewhere else and wait again, but I was pretty irritated. read more

He informed people of things that were wrong, and just sent them on their way without charging them for check engine light details, etc. I found him on Yelp because it was nice to save $10 from the place right around the corner and it was worth the quick trip. Came in for a smog for my 1999 Honda Crv. Only customer there at 9:00am on a Thursday. Smog check took about an hour due to computers needing recalibration which happen on Mondays and Thursdays the technician said. Then he had to replace a couple of tanks on the testing machine. Once he was done with that the actual smog test only took about 20 minutes. Technician was knowledgeable friendly and explained the results well. Waiting area is small but does have 4 chairs for customers and offered donuts and coffee while we waited. Clean looking shop and office. Plenty of parking outside. Shop accepts cash or card but does offer a $2.00 discount if paying by cash. read more
